You’ve probably been waiting for our update to drop. Well, it’s here! Now that it’s here, we’ve specified all the changes in a changelog. We’ve implemented a lot of improvements and fixes throughout, which will make this update very appealing to all players, from PvP competitive players to the singleplayer lovers.
The testing stage of this update took longer than usual, and this is because we decided to add 9 !! new maps to enjoy in PvP and PvE. This will be a welcome addition to those players who are willing to try new locations and experiences, and we’re always keen to add to the game content for our awesome community.
If you’re curious about the details, you can find the complete changelog HERE.
Sale
The second thing to announce is the fact that Call to Arms - Gates of Hell is on sale for a whole week! So tell all your friends, get them to play with you at an insanely reduced price - everyone wins! For the first time, the Talvisota DLC is on discount as well. This sale will run for a week and so there is a bit of time in which to spread the news and expand the player base. With all the new features of the update, like new maps and the greatly anticipated late-war period for Finland, this is a great opportunity to get started on the Finnish conflicts as well. We have exciting times ahead!
Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront - Herr Flick
Hi everyone, we’ve got some news to share about current development, and about what’s coming to Call to Arms - Gates of Hell in the near future. There’s something here for everyone! First of all, we are about to release another free update in the coming days. Besides that, work on the next faction continues at a good pace. At the same time we’ve been hunting bugs of course- in fact, we’re always busy on 3 fronts at any time. So let’s see what’s going on right now!
Conquest
Several improvements will be added to conquest; when the update is pushed, we will detail all the changes for you. We are continuously developing Conquest and exciting times are ahead. There are always plans to do more, and it’s actually safe to say that with these changes, we don’t think the development of conquest is finished at all. You can expect many more changes and additions to come to conquest in the future.
Multiplayer
Talking about multiplayer - we’ve made a number of changes & tweaks for balance reasons. These will be detailed in the changelog, as will the fixes.
Talvisota
We also have some additions specifically for Talvisota DLC owners. We’re very glad to announce that Finland will be added to the “late war” multiplayer period! Talvisota owners will be able to fight in some completely different settings with this addition.
We also add 2 more skirmishes to the Talvisota package; this duo of missions completes the Talvisota skirmish set. We’re quite sure you’ll have a great time playing these, they’re an absolute blast! All in all, the Talvisota now has 12 skirmishes available. If you’d like to try them - or the singleplayer and dynamic campaigns - check the Talvisota store page by clicking below: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1911520/Call_to_Arms__Gates_of_Hell_Talvisota/

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront - Herr Flick
Community members! We’ve successfully worked our way through the heatwave, sweating it out while development has to continue regardless. As you will have noticed by now, we have updated the game, and there’s more to tell & show. Here we go.
Update
As we do with every update, we published a complete change log separately. In this update we’ll just skim the surface; the highlights are:
Several new mechanics introduced like AT grenade vehicle-throw intercepting, or conquest not ending instantly which allows for a lot of post-battle looting to happen.
Added 4 more skirmishes to the Talvisota DLC.
A lot of community feedback was processed to improve existing skirmishes & more
Some cool new additions to prepare for the arrival of late-war Finland
Many bugs were squashed
The bug fixes, however, are always part of our process, regardless of what else is under development.
You’ll also see that we’ve added more voice lines. These were all done by native Finnish speakers, because we truly believe that’s the way it ought to be done. One of the sets of soldier voice lines was done by Christoffer Weiss. We feel very lucky to have been able to cast him; after all, if there is one voice actor who is not only a true actor, but who is also steeped in Finnish ww2 history, it's him. He starred in the 2004 movie “Beyond the Front Line” (Framom främsta linjen) which is set right in the middle of the Talvisota DLC theme. No wonder his voice lines turned out brilliantly. Have you heard them yet?
Development
We’re progressing very well into the next milestones. Dozens of new 3D models and assets are already out of the pipeline and there’s a lot more to come. We’re also contemplating some surprises in the future, but we can’t tell you yet - for obvious reasons. We are working on more than just the next nation - several new projects are being developed. What we can show you is some more maps we’re working on, the use of which is under discussion internally, but we’ll let you know what we will use these for at some point in the future. Have a look - and remember this is work in progress:
(It still says version 1.021 in-game, it will be changed soon).

Commanders! Are you aware that we’re in the middle of a sale? Besides that, do you want to find out more about our current development? Keep reading!
Steam Summer Sale
We’re part of the summer sale, as you may have noticed. Since we have published Talvisota, online activity has increased dramatically as a result, and we’re not nearly done yet (the sale will run for a few more days). We see the community growing every day and this motivates us to keep going down the path we have been on with our game. And as we have stated in earlier updates, there is a lot more to come. So if ever you had a really good reason to prepare for the future, surely this is the time to seize the opportunity and get the RTS you know you want!
At the moment, we are contemplating possibilities to expand the existing factions even further, weighing our options while we keep working on the next faction. In the meantime, the images in this blog show you what happens on any given day in our office, when our level designers are doing what they do best: create something realistic that offers some serious replay value. Here’s a few images from a random new map, which is the result of “just another day at the office”, the integration and purpose of which will be announced later:
We have already been working on the next milestone for a while. Development runs in parallel with the usual process of support for the existing packages. We will announce our plans soon. If you want to be among the first to find out, be sure to stay tuned!
Community members! In our previous update we announced the development of late-war period for Finland Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Talvisota expansion.
Our progress has been steady and we have some screenshots to share.
Testing of late-war will begin soon by our team, and if it plays well and turns out to be a good addition, we hope to release it as soon as it’s balanced.
We mentioned we would be releasing the skirmishes from Talvisota at a regular pace. We’ve processed a lot of the feedback from the players and we’re happy to announce we’ve made substantial changes to some of the existing skirmishes, as well as improvements throughout. Our changes have been aimed to make the skirmishes more fun and diverse as well as addressing historical inaccuracies. We have also finished three more skirmishes which we will release very soon.
Summer has arrived and to celebrate it, we are participating in the Steam summer sale with an amazing discount. Share the news with your friends and let’s keep growing our awesome community!
We are very happy how our players have praised the visual improvements and more lively and beautiful maps of the Talvisota expansion. You may recall that we mentioned that our aim was to bring that level of detail to the Ostfront base game as well. We are working hard to achieve this on top of all the other tasks which our team is undertaking.
Moreover, we are preparing an amazing sound redesign to the game. There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to bring our audio experience to an even greater standard, emphasizing realism as well as more atmospheric sounds thanks to new solutions we implemented. We continue to evolve and re-invest into our product to make sure it is not only to push the boundaries of our capabilities, but also to reward our community for their long-lasting support.
That’s all folks. Thanks for stopping by. Barbedwire Studios wishes you a happy start to the summer and we will see you on the battlefield!
Follow our developer website to stay updated on future sales, new games and updates. You may also want to join our official Discord to stay in touch with us more closely!
We are very happy that so many of you are enjoying the Talvisota DLC. As you know, we continue to expand and improve upon all our Gates of Hell products, and today we have some awesome announcements to make.
Christoffer Weiss has been cast as one of the voice actors for the finnish soldiers in Talvisota. A passionate actor known for partaking in WWII movies like “Framom främsta linjen”, Christoffer shared his passion and appreciation for our project and we could not reject such a collaboration. You will be able to hear him inside the game soon!
We also want to extend our thanks to all the enthiusiast players and finnish historians who are helping us achieve more historical accuracy on our Finnish units and landscapes. We appreciate all the feedback in this regard and continue to evolve our game.
Sale!
We continue our sale for Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Talvisota, which went out early this week. The release has been great and we are skimming through all of the feedback, some of which was already addressed in a patch yesterday. After the weekend we will be putting together another update which includes new and improved skirmishes as well as goodies for both Ostfront and Talvisota owners. Be sure to spread the word about Talvisota, the more successful it becomes, the more we will continue to expand it beyond the original plans. Make sure to grab it on this amazing sale, it wont last for much longer!
As part of the good reception of our first expansion, we are putting together the late-war stage of Finland which would enable it to fight in PvP and PvE in the 1944-45 environment. This is a decision that we didn't contemplate in the first place, because it is a difficult period to balance, since Finland was outclassed by the technological advances and available weaponry of the rival nations. We will give more information when we have progressed further. There is no assurance that it play well enough to be releasable, but we will try our best to make it work and we will release it to all Talvisota owners if the results are satisfactory.
Anniversary
1 year ago, Ostfront released. Barbedwire Studios wants to thank our community for the amazing experience it has been to release the game and continue to work with you over the last year. May it last for many more!
Have a good weekend. Sincerely, Barbedwire Studios.
