Avast! Get your grubby mits on the fourth island of the Oversky, the Pirate's Aerie, today!
The Adventure Pouch is open, and the fourth island of the Oversky is now available.
Pirate's Aerie
Unlock the island of Pirate's Aerie and challenge CAP-10, the mechanical sky pirate! This island gives you 4 co-op missions, 8 Oversky cards, a unique ally to help you on future co-op adventures, and bonus points for your Adventure Pouch (if you own one.)
The Pirate's Aerie contains the following new cards:
Two previously unrevealed cards are included in this set:
Flash Salmon Diving through the skies, these fish could be said to be the falcons of the Oversky. With the power of 2 deserts, launch these flying salmon at your opponent's units or orb. If it survives to the end of your turn, its tragic life-cycle will end and draw you a card in the process.
Skyward Swordfish It's a bird, it's a plane... okay, it's a Swordfish. This versatile Green and Yellow flying body can fill a number of roles, from defending your orb to harvesting between wells. Utilize its Dash ability to place it in just the right spot and you'll be happy to have this fish as your friend.
Balance Patch
Three Wishes - Cost reduction on cards received reduced from 3 to 1.
Azure Skywhale - Stats reduced from 6/8 to 6/6 - Can no longer harvest Faeria
Skywhale is one of the signature cards of the Oversky, and is intended to be an incredibly powerful return on investing into a large amount of special lands. There are several aspects of Skywhale that work to make it extremely strong. Most obviously, it removes a creature from play, preventing potential harvesting from the opponent. While the opponent gears up for its removal, the Skywhale is often used to harvest Faeria easily between two wells by charging back and forth, further increasing its value if not removed right away. Lastly, it's often able to attempt to 'drown' its victims by positioning itself over ocean tiles and force the opponent to make a difficult decision on whether or not to remove the Skywhale or wait until it's closer to land. These features of the card all add up to a powerhouse that is easy to play, but tricky to play against. These are often the most dangerous cards in Faeria, as shown previously with Frog Tosser. We want to do our best to keep this card at a powerful spot that doesn't feel so smothering to play against. By removing its ability to harvest, we dramatically cut the potential value this card can appreciate into the late game, and further our design goal of having this creature threaten game-ending damage to the opponent orb instead of merely fly around and harvest. We're also lowering its health by 2, which means the opponent should have many more potential answers, but will still have to find some source of 6 damage to remove this 6 cost unit - if hard removal is not readily available. The player of the Skywhale should still often come out ahead in value, without making the opponent feel so helpless.
Crystal Flower - Now loses life at the end of turn instead of during the Production phase.
This change is significant for two reasons. First, it's an effective nerf of one health to the structure. Secondly, and we believe more importantly, it improves the general gameplay this card provides. By making the damage occur at the end of a player's turn instead of the beginning, the owner of the Flower will no longer have the first action after the swallowed creature is released by this ability. This means the owner of the creature will have at least one guaranteed action with their creature instead of falling victim to another potential form of removal or value trade immediately after it is released.
Golden Aviary - Cost reduced from 3f to 2f - Damage increase reduced from +2 to +1
This change may catch you off guard, especially if you're reading this before the rest of today's cards are released. To put it simply, we found ourselves releasing a heavy amount of powerful flying creatures in the Oversky that simply became too strong when included in decks that use Aviary, a card that has been somewhat of an anchor for flyer decks in the past. We had a choice between releasing weak flyer cards in general, or reducing the strength of one particular card that becomes problematic for certain designs. Annoying Gnat, for example, has made use of Aviary in several of our Monthly Cups, creating a field of 3/1 flyers that end up trading for an unstoppable amount of value. Aviary is frequently difficult to play against as you're often unable to reach the structures easily in the early game, making them effectively global permanent enchantments. All of that said, we are generally reluctant to nerf cards in the core set unless they severely limit our design space for the future. In this case, we've decided that it's necessary.
Forbidden Library - Lake cost increased from 4 to 5.
This adjustment is not necessarily Oversky related, but is the product of our own observations and player feedback. Too often, Blue players are able to play this card so early in the game that the opponent simply has no method available for dealing with it, causing it to rapidly snowball out of hand and deliver a feeling of helplessness. With this change, we simply want to delay its appearance in games by at least 1 turn to allow the opponent to develop more potential answers.

Questions about the Adventure Pouch or the Oversky?
All hands on deck! We're cruising all ahead flank in preparation for reaching the Pirate's Aerie next Tuesday.
Ships in the sky
The floating islands of the Oversky tend to move around in relation to one another. This ever-shifting celestial geography means what we see right now is not how the islands looked even 50 years ago. Long-standing borders and territories simply don't work, but the Oversky Towships were created to help move some of the smaller islands around in an attempt to keep things mostly together.
There's one incontrovertible fact in this world that everyone agrees on: If you have ships, you're going to have pirates... and if you're going to have a pirate ship, someone needs to be CAP-10.
Oversky Towship and CAP-10, Sky Pirate can be found in the Pirate's Aerie next week, which is being released Tuesday, August 29th at 17:00 CEST.
Antoine
We'd like to formally welcome the newest member to the Abrakam development team, Antoine.
Antoine is a software developer that will be helping us work on the Unity client, as well as various aspects of backend architecture. He has been a Faeria player and supporter since even before the Kickstarter campaign under the player name "Smoldersan", and tells us he is incredibly excited to join the team and take on such a big life changing experience.
You may already know him from the bugs he's helped recently fix, such as the issue where Vine Wall was putting lands in the wrong place, or when Protection creatures were regaining Protection after popping out of Swallow. He's also the one who broke Haste creatures and Structures for 45 minutes yesterday, but we don't hold that against him.
Game design contest finalists
By now, we have contacted the individuals we have selected as finalists from the Game Design contest and are in the final stage of the processes to bring them into the Abrakam team. We will be ready to announce more specifics within the next two weeks.
We want to earnestly thank every single person who submitted an entry to the Game Design Contest, and were overwhelmed by great entries and passion for designing for Faeria. Unfortunately we simply cannot respond to everyone individually, though you certainly deserve it. Thank you for making it such a tough choice for us.
Monthly Cup XIV Qualifier
The first of two Monthly Cup XIV qualifiers takes place tomorrow, Saturday August 26th at 18:00 CEST. Make sure to check in an hour before!
This Monthly Cup will be very special. With a new set of cards being released weekly, we look forward to seeing the competitive decks players bring to the Pantheon format. Players will need to be on their toes this month and have less time than normal to build what they believe are the best decks. It should be very interesting to watch unfold. Keep an eye out for Faeria streams during the qualifiers!
Season card backs
We're ready to share the card backs you can earn from Ranked and Pandora play for the August season! The current season ends Monday, September 4th.

We're pushing a pair of balance changes in preparation for tomorrow's next Oversky island. Let's talk about them in context.
We discussed our general balancing policy for Oversky last Friday, but now we have a pair of specific changes to share with you.
Balance changes
Wild Growth
Now only creates one forest at random.
Faeria cost reduced from 2 to 1.
Wild Growth has, up until the Oversky, been a fairly innocuous card. With few heavy land cost creatures for Green to go for, this card didn't really have enough targets to reach to make it that dangerous. With the introduction of Wild land costs, this card suddenly shines as the only method in the game of generating 2 special lands with 1 card. With even more methods of land ramp being added in the Oversky starting tomorrow, it's no longer okay or necessary for this card to remain in its previous form.
Frog Tosser
Health decreased from 6 to 4.
A card like Frog Tosser has never existed in Faeria before, and we knew this card was going to cause a lot of excitement. The ability to destroy a creature and have up to two harvesters remain on board is an incredibly attractive tool that pushes Green/Blue deck building. However, we feel that we didn't properly gauge the devastating swings this card can often achieve with such a high health value. When Frog Tosser is able to trade and survive with most things at its cost level and below, it often costs the opponent far too many resources to answer in turn.
With a high land cost, this card is meant to be incredibly strong, just not "always the right play" strong. Our observations over the last week have confirmed to us that we need to make this body a bit more fragile.
The Whale in the Room
Yes, we hear the lamentations of the Skywhale.
This is a card we have a very close eye on, but will not be pushing a change to this week. With new cards on their way tomorrow and the hits to ramp decks in general today, we wanted to let things settle as we continue to observe the effect of Oversky on Faeria.
We know there are a lot of strong opinions out there about this iconic card of the Oversky, and of Swallow in general. We assure you we'll continue to make changes we think are best for the game and result in the most diverse and exciting gameplay possible.
Thank you for reading, and see you tomorrow in Wisplight Falls.

Invertebrates of the Oversky
We've got a simply tentacular pair of cards to share with you today. Both of these are making their way into the Oversky this summer.
Sky Anemone will be introduced as the first Structure in Faeria with flying! Deploy this distraction anywhere on board at a cost of no Faeria. For those wondering, no - you cannot put this on opponent land and build land off of it, as this is a structure and not a creature. You may be familiar with this rule already from Wind Gate's functionality.
Istanu, Eternal Light is a legendary ever-living jelly that's spirit can pass from creature to creature. It's also extremely beautiful, and that should count for something.
Istanu is making its way to Wisplight Falls next week, which is being released Tuesday, August 22nd at 17:00 CEST.
Oversky balance, gameplay, and our general thoughts
We know a lot of our players are interested in how we'll be approaching the new cards introduced by Oversky and the resulting metagame. Let's talk about that.
First of all, it is our goal to tone down Oversky cards as little as possible for the specific reason that they cannot be disenchanted for full value afterward. They cannot be disenchanted at all, actually. For that reason, the last thing we really want to do is make players feel bad that their favorite new card is no longer as strong. Secondly, if you are familiar with our general balancing policy, we work as hard as possible to avoid knee-jerk reactions to community feedback and only make changes when we're absolutely sure they are necessary for the overall health of the game. We also recognize that the meta will be changing on a weekly basis as the Oversky rolls out, and each new week will likely produce a playing environment in a constant state of flux.
With all of that in mind, we fully anticipated that by pushing multi-color decks in brand new ways with Oversky, we would be opening the door to some very powerful strategies using cards in ways never really seen before. Faeria is such a complex mechanism that it would be foolish to say that we could predict exactly how the gameplay landscape would settle after introducing fundamental concepts such as Wild Lands or powerful new high land cost cards. These are all beautiful problems to deal with, because we feel the end result is going to be a Faeria that is more engaging, deep, and exciting than ever before.
We don't want to turn the Oversky release period into a testing lab where we make radical changes each week, but we do want to push where necessary when we recognize fundamental problems that are shaping the meta in unhealthy ways. While we spend a lot of effort internally testing new content, our manpower is limited and there is simply no substitute for observing the effect the Oversky cardbase has over many thousands of players and many thousands of games. Therefore, do not be surprised if a change or two makes it into the Tuesday releases in order to promote deck diversity and overall enjoyment of Faeria. Thank you for your continued feedback in this area.
Three Wishes
One card we want to bring particular attention to is Three Wishes.
Three Wishes is a card that was meant to provide a way for players to experiment with multicolor decks by providing them a worthy goal to work toward at a time when there simply really weren't many others, due to the limited card base. We love how this card encouraged people to play fun four color decks, but aren't fond of how it generally means that if you create a four color deck you most likely are going to include this card.
The Oversky changes all of that. With Wild lands, we now have a way to create powerful multi-color cards that will drive deck creation in tons of unique ways. We don't need Three Wishes to be the enabler anymore - and for various reasons we really don't want it to be the driving force behind four color decks, including but not limited to the way the card plays in slow mirror match-ups.
We fully anticipated a sharp power spike for Three Wishes in Oversky as part of all this, and we want to make it clear that we have a very close eye on the card and are seriously considering a change. We know this card is a favorite among some of our players, but please understand that by creating the Oversky we wanted to provide better alternatives to Three Wishes, and continue to make a lot of them. While we do not plan on changing Three Wishes next week, we wanted to give fair warning to our playerbase and appreciate your feelings on this card.
Gem Starter Pack and Legendary cards
There is currently a bug where those who purchase the Gem Starter pack are not properly receiving their legendary cards. We will be fixing this Monday, and all players who made this purchase will properly receive a random Legendary they do not own.
Goki's brain surgery
Goki was having a little trouble earlier this week figuring out who to give his treasures to. He's received some counseling and now will properly deliver them to allies as requested.
The Emperor's Voice
Due to an internal miscommunication, we improperly presented the current functionality of the Emperor Kaios avatar set in our recent Adventure Pouch post.
While Kaios does have voiced emotes for the Emperor's Challenge - the functionality is not yet implemented for player avatars. While we have no ETA on this feature going live, know that it is fully intended players will be able to make use of these voices in the future.
We apologize for any confusion and will work better at not providing any misleading information when it comes to cosmetics.
You'll find these new items in the in-game store, starting today:
Cosmetic Bundles available:
This week is the first week Hoaka's cosmetic bundle with emotes becomes available!
Aurora
Hoaka
Fugoro
Decks of the Week
While we were not able to get Oversky cards onto The Hub this week (yes, we are that busy!), we have this task as a really high priority for the community. We apologize for the wait.
