The New Year is near and what is the best way to celebrate it if not with a big tournament!
Prepare yourself! 6 days, a much bigger than usual prize pool, special prizes for the very best players of both servers, more sessions are taken into account... The New Year Tournament is here (well, almost here, it starts next week)!
For each win, players receive additional points that depend on the strength of the opponents over whom they have won. Important: your tournament points will continue to increase with the increase in the tournament score of your past opponents, over whom you prevailed – even if you already have reached the limit of sessions for the tournament. What this means is that the tournament is never over for you as long as your previously conquered opponents continue to play, and win.
During this tournament, regular rating points will be frozen for all the players. Your tournament sessions will NOT affect your regular rating.
Players get tournament points for the first 14/18 (depending on server) sessions played in the tournament on each of the servers. Any subsequent sessions won't give any tournament points, and won't increase the number of defeated opponents who give additional points. Nonetheless, victories of all opponents who were defeated in the first 14/18 sessions will affect your final tournament rating.
PRIZE FUND:
Awarded: Top 20 players on each of the servers. In addition to the main prize fund, every player who finishes all tournament sessions receives a special bonus player icon “Facepalm” (only if it has not been received before)!
:hypnoheart: Special prize: the top-5 players on each of the servers will receive by registered mail a set of 4 hard enamel pins "Gremlins, Inc.". The pins will be mailed to the winners as a registered letter to any country in the world, provided that we receive the mailing address within 72 hours after the announcement of the tournament's results.
In the case when at the end of the tournament two or more players will have equal number of tournament points, they will share the same (highest) place and get the same rewards. However, the award list will not be extended, and we will still award only the top 10 players on each server.
TOURNAMENT CHESTS – FAQ:
Q. Where do Tournament Chests drop? A. Only in tournament sessions, which are available via Multiplayer Lobby.
Q. If I've finished all my tournament sessions, can I get more tournament chests? A. Yes, as long as you will keep playing tournament sessions.
Q. Are the tournament items limited to this tournament only, or to tournaments in general? A. The tournament items are available via tournament chests, which drop during every official tournament in the game.
Q. Is there a full list of tournament items available via tournament chests? A. Yes, please see below:
The Autumn Season is officially over! Congratulations to the strongest and luckiest players on both servers: Top-10 players on Amsterdam and on Singapore will be awarded with :pumpking: Autumn Chests :pumpking: as well as with :firstplace: rare in-game items :firstplace:!
It's been a while since we shared the stats on the game, and we though that the approaching holiday season is a good time to reflect on this.
Gremlins, Inc. came out in Steam Early Access in October 2015, with the full release in March 2016. Since then we released a number of DLCs, and a lot of content and feature updates. As of now, we continue to update and improve the game based on player feedback, and plan to do so for many more seasons.
Current sales of the game are a few hundred copies shy of 200,000; current wishlist is at 130,000; and across all channels, we have about 450,000 owners of the game.
Since its launch, players completed roughly 1.5 million sessions in Gremlins, Inc. across both Amsterdam and Singapore servers. Curiously, the rate of single-player and multiplayer sessions is very similar on both servers:
In terms of sales by region, things have been moving up and down a little bit throughout the last year, but the overall picture remains the same. All-time sales, by copies, stand as follows:
32% China 16% Russia 14% USA
China is twice as big as the next region in the top and, when taken together, China and Russia are responsible for about 1/2 of all sales. If someone asked us about a forecast back in 2015, we would have never thought it possible.
8% Japan 4% Germany 4% France
The game has as many players from Japan as it has players from both Germany and France, even though all three regions started off with similar numbers when the game launched.
3% UK 2% Canada 2% Ukraine 2% Australia
15% rest of the world
One way of looking at this is that almost 80% of all purchases are made just from 6 countries: China, Japan, Russia, Germany, France and USA. Another way of looking is that the "rest of the world" group is responsible for more sales than the whole of USA.
Finally, the sales of DLCs are at this time at around 112,000 copies. Considering that Gremlins, Inc.'s DLCs are not a "paywall" but rather just some items that allow to have extra fun around the game, we're humbled by this high number that reflects both the love of the community and the enjoyment that people get out of the game :hypnoheart:.
The last three years have been an amazing journey for our studio, and none of this would have been possible without the constant stream of feedback and the expression of support of the community – which comes from all over the globe.
We thank you for being with us, and we look forward to bringing you more fun in 2019 and beyond!
Today we release the Winter Season Update for Gremlins, Inc. which includes new cards with a never-before-seen game mechanics, quality-of-life changes, and bug fixes. With this update we also begin the new Winter Season, resetting the rating of all players to the default value of 100.00 (the award ceremony for the top players of the Autumn Season will happen a bit later). The Winter season should last until February 1, 2019, and then we are switching to the monthly system details of which will be announced later.
As for this update, below is the list of changes:
A. NEW FEATURES
Stats are now separated between different playing fields.
When you check any player profile (yours or someone else’s) you can see not only the combined statistics for both playing fields, but also individual data of how many sessions of each type have been played by the player on the first or the second playing field. The only exclusion is the "quit stats" that only counts as a total for both fields.
Please notice that the "Early access" row has been removed from profiles as obsolete – all sessions from that period are now included in the overall pool of sessions according to their types.
After gathering all 3 Ancient Details as active permanent cards, they will be replaced with an extremely powerful "Ancient Mechanism". It won't be that easy though as the activated Details can be taken away from you through Conflicts.
:cards: "Ancient Mechanism"
A game-winning permanent card that gives to its owner :score:1 at the beginning of each round. When a session begins, this card doesn't exist in the deck but it can be added to the game by gathering all 3 Ancient Details.
C. BALANCING CHANGES
CHARACTERS: a :steampunk: Pauper: both 'Apathy' and 'No Place for Beggars' now trigger when the Pauper has less than $200 (instead of when the Pauper has less than $100).
D. OTHER CHANGES
The 1360x768 screen resolution has been added to the game.
If a player is banned for breaching the Fair Play Rules, their "Ranked session" button now will be replaced with the "Fair Play Rules" button to make it less confusing why the player can't join the queue.
After finishing a ranked or a tournament session, players can now open the protest forum directly from the game.
The "My notes" button is added next to the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" buttons on the screen with the post-session statistics. [:notebook: Flibustier-USSR]
The screen with the post-session statistics now shows not only the avatars of the players but also their lobby icons. [:notebook: Flibustier-USSR]
The sound when a ranked session is found has been replaced with a different one.
E. FIXES
Fixed the issue with the "Wind of change" misfortune, where in some very rare circumstances it could duplicate cards. [:notebook: Standard of Ur]
Partially fixed the issue with the "always flashing" indicator of the active permanent cards. It can now be turned off by opening and closing the window with the active permanent cards.
F. KNOWN ISSUES
Information about all currently known issues, their status, as well as the suggestions from the community can be found at our public page on Trello: https://trello.com/b/HjOStDAS You can use our forums to report new issues or make suggestions about the game – they will be added to the Trello list.
Have you noticed that quite a few of the fixes and improvements in this post have the names of the players who reported/suggested them? This is because when a certain suggestion is implemented or a significant reported bug is fixed, the players who reported those first, are rewarded with in-game chests. Please keep those reports and suggestions coming!
Finally, as always, we invite you to join the community of Gremlins, Inc. on Discord – where we already have nearly 2.000 players, communicating in English, Russian, Japanese and Chinese – use this link to join.
With the Winter Season Update, which is expected today, the game receives 2 new cards with a never-before-seen game mechanics:
ANCIENT DETAIL
:cardback: copies in the deck: 3 :cards: move points: 3 :steampunk: type: regular, permanent :Location: location: The Treasure :bh2coin: cost: free :fireapple: get: :score:1
Special Rule:
When a player with an active "Ancient Detail" loses Conflict, the Conflict's winner gets one such card transferred to them.
When a player has all three "Details" active at the same time, they are discarded; the player receives an active "Ancient Mechanism" instead.
"Gremlins don't have any particular appreciation for gold or other precious metals. Rather, the role of undeniable valuables in the gremlin economy belongs to the components of various mechanisms created by the Ancients. In theory, one could even manage to build something from them, but they so often pass from hand to hand that finding the exact piece that you need right now is always rather problematic."
ANCIENT MECHANISM
:cardback: doesn't exist in the deck at the beginning of a session :cards: move points: 6 :steampunk: type: regular, permanent :Location: location: The Plant :bh2coin: cost: $600
Special Rule:
Get :score:1 at the beginning of each round.
"There is nothing more valuable for gremlins than a real, working Ancient Mechanism: the owner of such an artefact possesses truly unquestionable authority... In theory. In practice, though, one must first spend an incredible amount of time and effort to prove that this apparatus is truly made from ancient components, that it actually works and that you, and not someone else, are its rightful owner. Even more time and effort must be then spent to get the paperwork that proves all of the above to be true."
Soon, the Autumn Season :pumpking: will end and the Winter Season :flake: will begin: we currently aim for December 17, 2018 as the date of the change.
At the same time we will release the Winter Season Update, which brings bug fixes, new user interface features and new cards (this time, they will have a never-before-seen game mechanics!).
Please keep in mind that the coming Winter Season will be shorter than usual, because starting from February 2019 we switch to the new system of game seasons that will change monthly.
Instead of 4 ranked seasons per year that are roughly tied to Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, the game will have 12 Ranked Seasons, starting on the first day of each month.
Each of these monthly seasons has a separate prize pool :firstplace:, significantly expanded in comparison to the current system. The new system will also provide a more accurate and predictable seasonal schedule :RatsClock: as well as create more dynamic competition in the ranked mode.
We plan to share more details about the new system closer to its release.
In the meantime, please don't forget that the new season also means the reset of the rating for all players to the default 100.00. And the seasonal rewards, of course :)
The tournament is over and as always we would like to share with you some additional data as well as the list of the winners :fireapple:
