Last year we mentioned that we'd begun creating a new video tutorial series that would show new users how to create a fully functional game from start to finish.
I'm pleased to announce that our five-part RPG Series is now finished and has launched on our official YouTube channel!
Note: You can click on the "Subtitles/closed captions" button in the bottom-right of the YouTube video player to enable subtitles.
In the span of just over 30 minutes, you'll learn how to create your first Map with some moving NPCs, create quests and cut-scenes, customise the player's appearance and attributes, add gamepad support and new resources, create a main menu and customise the HUD, build your game for others to play and more!
Share your feedback!
As always, we're interested in hearing the thoughts and suggestions of our community - not only on these tutorials (and how we might possibly improve upon them) but also your suggestions on other series you'd like to see covered in the future!
If you have a game/genre you'd like to see a video tutorial series on, then please leave a comment with your suggestion!
More on the way!
In the mean time, I can confirm that a sixth "Bonus" video tutorial for the RPG Series is currently in the works. After finishing the pre-planned five-part series we realised that we could cover a few extra topics that new users might find particularly useful. We hope to have this new video tutorial ready within the next fortnight so stay tuned!

It's our last community update for the year and what a year it's been! To celebrate we're having the BIGGEST discount for 001 Game Creator EVER and we've also updated the software with a bunch of useful additions/fixes! See details below:
Alongside the sale, we've also updated 001 Game Creator with a bunch of awesome additions and bug fixes. Here are some of the highlights and, as always, you can see the full change log here: http://www.engine001.com/changes.htm
Tooltips
It took a while but we've finally added tooltips to all major windows and their respective sub-windows in 001! Our Help Wiki will always have the most detailed explanations but these tooltips should provide users (particularly newcomers) with some much needed help in understanding what all of these options/controls actually do.
Engine Performance Stuttering Resolved
This crucial fix has resulted in improved smoothness in higher framerate games and has consequently improved the accuracy of Spawns/Timers!
Fixed Framerate / Time Stepping
A new option inside the Game Settings window which allows game timing to be more predictable, resulting in more consistent gameplay regardless of game performance. Essentially, this tells your game that the FPS is always whatever you've set so if there's a hiccup, it'll run the game X number of times until it's caught up. This should help to resolve collision detection issues (Actors falling through floors, doors, walls, etc. when they're not supposed to)
PLEASE NOTE: If your game already suffers from performance issues, then this setting may make things worse! It's also advised that the "Minimum Framerate" option is set to nothing lower than 30.
Games Showcase
Be sure to follow the official 001 Game Creator Instagram account to see new posts every Monday, Thursday and Saturday showcasing the awesome games made in 001! Here's some of the things you've been missing:
Happy New Year!
We'd like to thank all of you for your continued support throughout the year and we hope you all have a happy holiday and new year! We'll be back in 2018 with even more cool updates for 001 Game Creator, so look forward to it! :)

Today we're pleased to announce that our long-awaited Point & Click Adventure Kit is now available on Steam! This new DLC template provides you with everything needed to start building your own PnC Adventures!
With the launch of our new Point & Click Adventure Kit comes a brand new version of 001 Game Creator. This new update is mostly bug fixes but a few small additions have also been made, including the ability to specify an Android version code (to help facilitate APK updates on the Google Play store) and a new "Comment" event that can be placed inside scripts to let other developers know what your script is doing. We've also made 001 automatically launch Steam, if launching from an executable and Steam isn't running, thanks to user feedback!
In regards to bug fixes, there are a few we'd like to mention specifically. Mainly that the "Overflow" error some users were experiencing has now been resolved! We've also fixed some memory and GDI object leaks that were causing "Out of Memory" errors for certain computers, fixed level/experience from not being properly maintained in minimalistic saves and also fixed rounding issues with position of animations in sprite sequences (which resulted in certain movements not always being very smooth).
Looking towards the future, I'm pleased to let you all know that we've begun the slow and arduous task of implementing tooltips for every major window inside 001 Game Creator. While the Online Wiki will always provide the most detailed information about 001's features, we've nonetheless heard the outcry for built-in tooltips and have started doing exactly that! Once implemented, you'll be able to hover your cursor over any control in 001 to get a brief explanation of its functionality. This should help to clear up a lot of the confusion newcomers have with some of 001's more advanced features and we hope you look forward to seeing them!
We're planning to roll out the first batch very soon, which will include completed tooltips for the following main windows: Actor, Field, Sprites, Tile-Sets and Items/Magic.
NEW Video Tutorials are also on the way!
While on the subject of documentation, you'll also be pleased to hear that a brand new video tutorial series is currently in the works. After much deliberation, we've decided that the best approach would be to show a game being built from start to finish and showcase as much of 001's functionality along the way. We've already got someone on board who will be writing all of the tutorials and a framework is currently in the works that details what the series will end up covering. We hope to start rolling out video tutorials on a consistent basis once all of the details have been finalised.
