I just wanted to say a big thank you for helping us reach this point and supporting Game Guru through its formative development phases. The big release went well, and the feedback has been very positive which is great to hear. We still have a long road ahead, and I am looking forward to bringing you more features to continue the game making fun for years to come.

Third person went down particularly well, and we especially thank the community for suggesting we move the Wizard character from the DLC into the core product, where it belonged. Now everyone can try it out, and provide valuable feedback on where we go from here.

We have noted a few niggles some of you have reported to us, and we plan to release a new patch build on Thursday to make some refinements such as vertical adjustment in third person mode, better camera collision code and a few minor fixes. The ongoing plan is to make only small adjustments and avoid sweeping changes for the next few weeks while we ensure these new features are bedded in well.

Today I participated in the first Games Engine Smackdown hosted by W.I.P, which is a 30 minute head to head and a quick way to learn about what's new and cool in the Games Engine space. Alas I did not win the smack-down but the winner Tom fully deserved the prize for a specialist game maker I had not seen before. Here is my 30 minutes of fame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlC91heuq7A
I only had three minutes in the video above to show off Game Guru, but it did demonstrate quite well that I could create a 3D game in third person AND in first person in less than 3 minutes! It's this instant accessibility, ease of use and fluid and intuitive workflow which we strive for. Being able to have an idea, boot up Game Guru, throw some stuff into the mixer and play what you dreamed up is our goal and I think we are well on our way. With an ever expanding library of game ready assets, editor and game improving all the time, a growing community and a great team behind the scenes I think the future is very bright indeed. We have some exciting features in store for you, so watch this space, keep creating and above all, have fun!

GameGuru Classic - The Game Creators

Welcome to the GameGuru weekly news. This week sees the project hit a key milestone as it comes out of Early Access and releases fully on to Steam.

We're very proud to announce the release of GameGuru Version 1, as well as the release of six DLC packs to expand your media collections. If you were one of our amazing supporters who originally pledged to support GameGuru when it was known as "FPS Creator Reloaded", one or more of these packs will be available to you for free as part of your pledge deal.

You can read all about the new and exciting features you'll receive as part of Version 1 a little later, but we're sure you'll be pleased with this, the first major step towards the creation of the world's easiest game maker!

Version 1 is here!

GameGuru has changed a lot recently with many new and exciting features. This has all been heading towards the first major milestone in the GameGuru development process and we're pleased to announce the very first full release, taking GameGuru out of Steam Early Access and into version 1.01.

Version 1.01 is a big advancement, even when compared to the last early access release and it introduces many improved editor features, including the much requested character creator, an excellent and friendly new tool that enables you to design your own characters and quickly and easily add them to your own games. We supply you with some templates to get you started and will be making more choices available as we continue to improve and expand GameGuru.

Please don't worry about us coming out of Early Access. We are 100% committed to GameGuru and have long term plans to expand and improve it. We felt it was the right time to come out of Early Access and to start promoting GameGuru as a complete game maker. You can be sure we'll be releasing regular updates just like we've done since we launched on Steam earlier this year.

Third Person Gaming!

Today we're also introducing a new perspective to GameGuru - adding support for 3rd person to the existing 1st person view. You can gain access to the first example of this mode with a new wizard character that comes FREE as part of the GameGuru V1.01 update! If you then purchase the new Fantasy DLC pack you'll be able to build an amazing environment around him with the new Aztec and jungle assets.

Here we've placed the wizard character in a level made from the jungle assets from the Fantasy DLC. There are many fantasy enemies to battle in the level and this starts the whole third person gaming experience in GameGuru.

As you can see from the above screenshot, version 1.01 also introduces a brand new decal system that allows game makers to immerse their players by adding animated effects to their games. We're providing 20 decals from a mix of genres to get you started, you can also find many more in a new range of Mega Pack DLCs that are released today.

Tutorial System

We've also taken the opportunity to introduce a very helpful interactive tutorial system to help new users get started with GameGuru. Over time we plan to expand the tutorials this system can provide. We've also included 24 environmental maps to kickstart your game creation - these maps come from our talented community and are a great place to start.

Competition News
As many of you will recall, we hosted a competition last month to design some impressive outdoor maps which would allow users to kickstart their own developments. In the end, we felt that all entries were worthy winners and have awarded prizes to everyone who entered. All small maps won $50, and all large maps $100. Here are a couple of screenshots from just two of the entrants:

The Garden

The Old Quarry
Congratulations to everyone who entered and thanks for making the whole competition such fun to arrange and judge.

New DLC available

The first wave of DLC's for GameGuru hit the Steam store this week, and we're sure you'll agree we're taking steps to cover as many genres as we can as well as supply you with some great value packs.

Fantasy pack - This pack contains a large selection of fantasy media set in an Aztec styled environment.

Death Valley - A great collection of modern day desert buildings and assets, fully compatible with the existing default buildings. In addition to these, you'll also get a selection of props and scenery as well as seven new army characters.

Buildings Pack: The pack contains a selection of modern day and far eastern buildings suitable for adding extra depth to a wide range of town or city games.

Mega pack 01: Contains hundreds of legacy media converted for use with GameGuru. If you're looking for some more jungle, medieval middle eastern or far east media, this is the pack for you.

Rather than a long-winded rant of text, I would like to announce some new features which will be released next week. We have a new interactive tutorial mode which will help new users learn how to load a level, add and edit an entity, test a game and finally create a standalone game.

Even veteran Game Guru users can check out the new levels that have been prepared to get you started quickly. No more blank maps for you, you can start your game in the middle of a freshly loaded wilderness!

Another cool feature is the third person control system which has been added to the core along with a rather hot fireball weapon. The character needed for third person controls require extra animations so we have decided to wrap it all up in a new DLC which provides all the content you might expect from a basic third person game. Watch out for news on this next week, but for those who like to dabble there will be a way to create your own characters and flag them as third person control compatible.

Perhaps the longest awaited feature has been the Character Creator, which makes its debut next week. It comes complete with a selection of bodies, heads, hats, hairs and tweaks and there is plenty of room for expansion too. I believe character creator body parts will be a hugely successful part of the game guru store moving forward, and of course we will continue to drop in new free content as the builds roll on.

Other news from this week is mostly monotone with most of it involving testing and tweaking, but I did find time to snapshot the Fantasy level as I worked through it's creation (yes I actually made this one).

Had a lot of fun with the fantasy art work, and as much as my imagination was bursting with ideas to email the artist, I practiced great restraint and made good use of the available tree, roots and vines.

My latest fantasy shot is from the final version of my level which shows a small patch of earth where a goblin used to live (I blew it up with a fireball), strewn with the leftovers of what was probably the last adventurer to walk this way.

The plan this weekend is to continue testing to make sure the build is solid, as this is going to be a huge release week for us. Next week will be more of the same, responding quickly after the release as I am sure a few bugs will get through, despite our efforts.

Overall, I think the Early Access has been a great success. When we first launched on Steam, we had no idea what would happen as we trialed the Steam multiplayer API for the first time live or what would happen when a lot more people started using the product and feeding back. As it transpired, the release went very well and we smoothly settled into a normal trend of small builds and fixes, with the occasional large build to shake things up. It is this trend of small builds and an occasional large build which has promoted us to upgrade our version number status. The next build would have been build 30 (it's full name being V1.00.030) but as this release introduces so much new stuff, we have decided to use up one of our 'minor' counter and reset the 'iteration' counter. The new version number for the next build will be V1.01.00 and marks the release of interactive tutorials, third person play and customizable characters.

It will be exciting to see what V1.02.00 brings to the table, and I fancy it may have something to do with aquatics, but I shall say no more about it for fear my words will be forged into a pointy object and used to nail me to a wall. On a general note I'm very happy with what we've created so far and pleased with the direction it's going. I also want to thank the internal testers who helped us test an impossible amount of stuff these last two weeks. When you see what we have planned for you, it will all become clear!

Until next week, have a great weekend and I'll be back posting on Monday via the Game Guru websites daily blog at: https://www.game-guru.com/devblog/
