Developer Amplitude Studios has announced a double whammy of new expansions heading to Endless Legend and Endless Space 2 later this month on PC, titled Symbiosis and Penumbra respectively.
Symbiosis, which releases on Steam on January 24th, brings new colossal beasts and a new faction to the turn-based 4X fantasy series. The new faction, known as the Mykara, are described as an ancient civilisation that "rose from unicellular beings to full grown warriors" with the singular goal of bringing balance back to the world.
According to Amplitude, "The Mykara originate from a unique stem city and overgrow points of interest to fuel their economy. While they cannot settle new land, they can turn conquered enemy cities into ghost towns from which they get bonus resources. After a few turns, their symbiosis with the conquered town allow them to gain bonus traits..."
Amplitude Studios' splendid Endless series of strategy games - which comprises of Endless Legend, Endless Space and its sequel, Dungeon of the Endless, and an assortment of DLC - is having a free weekend, and it's underway now.
From today, August 2nd, until 6pm on Monday, August 6th in the UK, all of Amplitude's Endless games are available to download and try for free on Steam. Of course, if you want to continue playing after the event ends, you'll need to fork over some cash.
However, should you be sufficiently swayed toward a purchase, all titles and DLCs are discounted on Steam during Amplitude's free weekend. The Endless Space Collection is 1.49, down from 14.99, Endless Space 2 is 11.89 instead of 34.99, Endless Legend drops from 22.99 to 5.74, and the normally 8.99 Dungeon of the Endless will set you back 2.24.
This time last week, we learned of Endless Space 2 and Endless Legend's new Supremacy and Inferno expansions—both of which land today. This time this week, I'm here to tell you both games are getting a free weekend.
From now through Sunday at 10am PST / 6pm BST, Endless Space 2 and Endless Legend are free to try (as are Amplitude's other games Dungeon of the Endless and the original Endless Space). More on that features in the trailer above. If you already own all of the developer's games, the free weekend's custom-made website and stretch goals might be of interest.
Here's Amplitude with the skinny:
On our free weekend website, we’ll be putting up Stretch Goals that will be unlocked based on the total number of hours played by our community, across all of our games.
Last year, 240,000 participated in the free weekend, unlocking all six reward tiers in the process. This year, we're back with another Community Challenge!
Simply play Endless Legend, Dungeon of the Endless, or Endless Space 2 and reach 1 million hours of collective playtime to help the community unlock all the rewards, which include a Cravers Prime skin that was only available during Early Access, and as stretch goals, 6 additional fleet skins to unlock.
Said free weekend website lives this way.
If you fancy Endless Legend's new Inferno expansion, and Endless Space 2's new Supremacy add-on, here's some fresh in-game footage. First, Inferno:
And second, Supremacy:
Both expansions are available on Steam, and cost £9.89/$11.69 (ten percent off till August 30) each; or £17.58/$ 20.78 (20 percent off) when purchased together.
