Subnautica - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Philippa Warr)

A fair few people said they wanted a little tour of my Subnautica [official site] Volcano Base so I’ve made a quick video to show it off – especially the garden which is packed with bioluminescent plantlife!

I’m playing a lot of Subnautica [official site] at the moment, spending hours beneath the waves, doing the floaty equivalent of pottering and gardening.

I think the reason I’m having so much fun, despite being historically infuriated by survival games, is that one mode allows you to ditch the hunger and thirst constraints. I’m still surviving in that I worry about my oxygen and my health and I like how that guides and paces my exploration. There are constraints to navigate but not the constant irritant of hunger and thirst as it tends to manifest in this tranch of gaming.

The Power Nap Update has been released on Steam! Check out the Power Nap Update site to see all the juicy, energising details about what’s included.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79ZxlyU2w7Q

Recharge your batteries using the new Battery Charger. The Battery Charger can be used to recharge exhausted batteries for flashlights, light arrays, and more.

Have depleted powercells as well? You can also create Powercell Charger for all your powercell charging needs.

Time to rest your weary head on your new bed. Three options for beds make all your Habitat dreams come true. Complete with laying-down animation.

Follow around Gasopods and pick up their gas orbs as materials for the new gas torpedo. Once you have some gas pods and titanium, head over to the Seamoth upgrade station to make your torpedoes. These missiles release a cloud of toxic gas upon impact.

Sea Treaders are Subnautica’s gentle giants. As they tread along, they drop basalt rocks and (sometimes) manure. The latter can be used for bio-energy!

You’ve seen them around but not like this — Introducing the final model for the Solar Panels! Just when you thought solar energy couldn’t get any better.

A new update for Subnautica has been released! Check out the Machinery Update site for more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRjICSP7n2c

The latest and greatest technology in the world of Subnautica is the Map Scanner room. These rooms can be built on to existing habitats, or can stand alone. Map Scanner rooms will scan nearby seafloor, searching for a select array of resources. Additionally, there are two exterior cameras that can be piloted remotely. Upgrades bring additional benefits.

The Cyclops gets a massive technology overhaul. Improvements include better proximity sensors, a hull camera, deeper dives, functioning lockers, and more.

Bio Reactors and Nuclear Reactors are officially an option. Bio Reactors require plant matter to function, Nuclear Reactors require Radiation Rods [CHECK]. Both must be places in a Multi-Purpose Room.

Thermal Reactors have been around for a while, but now they look the part. The Machinery Update brings a model to this useful piece of tech.

The Blood Kelp biome grows with the addition of the Blood Kelp 2 zone. Both Blood Kelp areas will serve as entrances to the Lost River Biome, still in development. In Blood Kelp 2 you will also find a new critter, the Crabsquid. Be careful not to touch, as it can deliver a nasty attack.

The floating storage container now functions! Build it and fill it with all your favorite things.

Creatures will now respawn after being killed by another creature or the player. This feature was in high demand by you, the players! Thank you for your continued feedback to support the development of Subnautica.

Subnautica - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Philippa Warr)

Over the last three days I seem to have racked up 18 hours in Subnautica [official site] and several more than 2,000 screenshots. I’m playing in Freedom mode so I can ignore food and drink requirements and spend a lot of my time building little bases to act as viewing platforms for kelp forests. BUT! I also discovered the freecam command in debug mode so here is a whole gallery of undersea loveliness to try to communicate why I’m spending so much time under the sea!

A new Subnautica update is available on Steam! The Oculus Update brings support for Oculus Rift SDK 1.3, which is a nerdy way of saying: You can play Subnautica on your Oculus Rift right now! If you already own Subnautica on Steam, it is not necessary to buy again on Oculus Home. You can use your Steam copy to play with the Oculus Rift.

The Oculus Update is not just about the Oculus. There are also a bunch of new features available to everyone. First up: The main menu now has a fancy new water background. Who doesn’t like some ambient water visuals to start their game off right?

Power is now required for Seabase Oxygen, which applies to not just Seabases, but also the Seamoth and Cyclops. If any of the three are underpowered, they will stop producing enough. Oxygen for survival. It is now crucial to ensure everything is properly powered.

You can now sit! You’ve been hard at work on your feet since the beginning, it’s high time you take a load off and enjoy sitting in your base. In short, you can now interact with chairs. Even better, you can access your PDA while sitting. This is particularly useful as it allows you to browse your PDA without worrying about Food or Water depleting.

Reaper Leviathan, Reefback, Stalker, Bone Shark and Bladderfish are all ready for their close ups. We’ve done a lot of work on the animation of these creatures to make them move throughout the world much more nicely. Next time you see one, go in for a closer look. Well, as much as you dare.

Last but not least, fragments will now spawn mostly within wrecks. Sometimes, they can be found elsewhere but the best place to hunt them down will be within wrecks.

Subnautica - UWE.Strayan (NS2HD)

Subnautica Early Access has always featured the Life Pod – An escape capsule ejected from the crashed Aurora Starship. How did it come to rest on the ocean surface? What happened on the way down? This small update answers that question. See details about what is included in the update on the Crash Sequence site.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qptyqKkeaJQ

The Crash Sequence starts with ejection from the stricken Aurora. To experience it, start a new game of Subnautica. The game used to start with a simple fade up from black. You will find that now, the opening is a little more intense!
