Join #TeamFalcon or #TeamSpeedRunner next week in King of Speed 2 - the boostanoid-fueled official SpeedRunners tournament.
Fight cancer, with speed and running!
Next week we are introducing 2 DLC character packs into SpeedRunners. These packs contain 4 celebrity characters each. One pack is assigned to #TeamFalcon, the other - to #TeamSpeedRunner.
If you play as The Falcon, or any of the characters on #TeamFalcon, wins count towards that team. Same for #TeamSpeedRunner. You don't need to buy the DLC to participate, but if you do - it will be for a good cause.
# Play as your favorite Youtuber or one of the team leads (SpeedRunner or Falcon) # Your wins add to your team's total score # Team with most wins by November 20th is the winner # We will donate money made from the winning DLC to cancer research
You can guess the team assignments yourself :)

FAQ
What is King of Speed?
King of Speed is an in-game tournament between the characters of SpeedRunners. The first one was held in December 2013 and featured an ARG, the culmination of which revealed Game Modifiers.
In the first King of Speed, we counted wins of individual characters for a month, and in the end Cosmo was crowned as King Cosmo and wore a crown for a month in-game.
This time The Falcon faces off with SpeedRunner in an ultimate showdown of Speed and Running. And they are backed up by teams of Youtubers to help!
Do I need to buy the DLC to participate?
No, you can support your team by playing as either The Falcon or SpeedRunner
But SpeedRunner has 4 versions of the skin, but Falcon has only 1?
We are adding 3 more skins to the Falcon just for this event. Spoilers? I probably shouldn't be revealing this.
Which charity are you donating money to?
This is something we're figuring out with the help of experienced parties like Humble Bundle. If you have suggestions - let us know.
What's the DLC price?
We are aiming for $2.99 per pack, so less than $1 per character
Why cancer research?
Personal statement from Alex Nichiporchik (CEO @tinyBuild):
Screw cancer. It took the life of countless people in my family, and almost took mine. I believe with the popularity of SpeedRunners we can make a difference to advance its research.

Technically it is r31.5 -- everything from r31 is now live, along with a few additional changes, such as graphics options in settings, pause screen having control setup, and some bahhhh.
Fireballs can now be thrown when walking up on slopes.
Fireballs are now moving at the same speed no matter which direction you throw them.
Fireballs now have a slightly lower collision box.
DoubleJumping after a superboost doesn't make you lose your speed anymore.
Added a 'wrong way' indicator.
Added a 'no item' game option.
Network rerouting. The game now sends messages through other players if that turns out to be faster (or the only way to reach them). This should in turn fix a bunch of in-game issues.
Fix: the jittery motion during swinging for some players.
Fix: laser sliding.
There are graphics options in the options menu now (note: resolution, vsync or windowed settings the steam game launch options overrule the graphics options in the options menu. This may be a good time to remove the graphics options from the steam game launch options.)
The last item on the workshop levels list can now be selected.

Fun fact. You guys cumulatively spent 162 years in SpeedRunners. Here's an infrographic we came up with while snooping through the Steam stats:
Meanwhile this weekend Gert-Jan and Luke are at EGX London. If you're in the Rezzed area, stop by!
What we're working on...
Back here in the Netherlands we are working on a large update, and the work just keeps on piling up. Wouter is still working on the gravity volumes and some other things -- like getting graphics settings into the game, he's getting the grip of it.
Tom and Matthijs are doing tons of animation/character design work. Some of the stuff we already shared on Twitter:
There's much more in the works. We got one large content update planned for the first week of October, and another one for mid-October.
This presents several problems which me & Casper have been trying to solve. Main one is that if we add more characters, it becomes an issue when you want to select them. The current UI is fine for up to 6 characters, but when you go over 10 - you get a panic attack after scrolling through all of them, trying to find your favorite. So we're working on that.

Casper walks us through some important changes in SS Royale, Library, and Factory.
Tokyo Game Show
Casper just took off to Tokyo to showoff SpeedRunners as part of Sense of Wondernight. I hear he has some T-Shirts with him :)
EGX Rezzed
Part of the team is going to London next week to showcase SpeedRunners at EGX Rezzed. We will continue doing the tinyQuest there, so make sure to collect ALL THE CARDS!
October Lets Player Update Inbound
The artistic part of the team is now working on a Lets Player character pack. During PAX Prime we teamed up with Polaris to get Youtube celebrities to play SpeedRunners together, and we are getting them into the game as characters. The idea is that we want to raise money for cancer research, in light of my cancer fight 10 years ago, and TotalBiscuit's recent encounter. Screw cancer!
r31 still in testing
We're still holding off releasing r31. The $6.5k Gfinity Cup is still on-going and it feels very bad to accidentally break the game during arguably our kickstart into the E-Sports scene.
New developer on the DoubleDutch team!
The DoubleDutch Team has a new full-time developer on board! Wouter is now working on something Casper came up with during Gamescom - flipped gravity volumes. So you can drop a volume in the level editor that flips the gravity.
This bring the total team to 6 people.
Casper - game & level design Gert-Jan - everything code, network & magic related Wouter - more code Alex (me) - production/marketing Tom - character design, animation Matthijs - 3D animation (newest characters are animated in 3D and exported to 2D sprites)
We're also working on a deal with an external 2D animation studio to speed up the process with new characters. Right now the plan is for the Lets Player Youtube Pack to be a separate thing you buy and we donate the proceeds from that to charity. In regards to actual in-game characters - we are still debating how that gets into the game.
