The official “World Gameplay Reveal” of Baldur’s Gate 3 is due to happen live on stage and stream tonight buuut some website has jumped the gun and leaked a load of screenshots early. They confirm that, as you might expect from the coming-together of Baldur’s Gate and the studio behind Divinity: Original Sin, it’s a top-down RPG with a cinematic conversation view and an air of Divinity about it. Specifics will have to wait for tonight but you can pore over these dozen screenshots now for hints of story, setting, systems, and such.
We won’t be waiting too much longer to get our hands on Baldur’s Gate 3, as it’s making its way to Steam Early access later this year. Since it was announced at E3, Larian Studios have kept pretty quiet about the game. But with PAX East fast approaching, it looks like the studio also behind Divinity: Original Sin are getting ready for some big reveals this week.
Evidence is mounting for a Baldur’s Gate 3 release date getting announced before the month is out. Better yet, that drop date (if we do in fact get one) could be before 2020 ends. Larian have already teased, well, something happening in February. Larian’s CEO Swen Vinckie’s been doing the vaguetweeting thing. Now, Google have accidentally slipped up, mentioning Baldur’s Gate 3 on a list of Stadia games coming in 2020. It’s a lot of conjecture but heck, let me spin you the yarn.
Divinity: Fallen Heroes, the upcoming XCOM-style Divinity game from Larian Studios, has been put on hold for an unspecified amount of time.
While it was originally meant for release this November, an announcement on the Larian Forums states Logic Artists (the developer handling Fallen Heroes) will be focusing on its own IPs while Larian moves focus to Baldur's Gate 3.
"It has become clear to everyone involved that the game will need far greater development time and resources than are available now to bring it to fruition, in a fun and sustainable way," Larian writes.
