We're excited to announce Sienna's fourth career, the Necromancer, will release on Steam, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 on October 19!

Sienna’s Necromancer career is born from a fight with her twin sister, Sofia, granting her new powers and abilities that allow her to command the dead. How, exactly, these powers were obtained by the once Bright Wizard have yet to be revealed.

We know it's been a long time coming, and we can't wait to see you all try your hand at this new forbidden magic! Stay tuned as we get closer to her launch date for more information on her talents, abilities, and gameplay.

We've just put out patch 5.0.2, a collection of fixes, a few tweaks, and an update to the Collector's Edition Soundtrack to include soundtrack versions of the Chaos Wastes OST.

Bonus Content (~300 MB)
  • The Collector's Edition has been updated to include the soundtrack for Chaos Wastes.
Hotfix 5.0.2 (~100 MB)
  • The Crimson Greatsword (Executioner Sword) illusion now has the appropriate icon.
  • Fixed various localisation issues.
  • Twitch mode: Changed Spawn Size setting widget from a stepper to a slider, allowing setting values like 199% from in-game. Also bumped up the maximum allowable value from 200% up to 300%. Happy Twitching!
  • Twitch mode: Added a failsafe against setting the minimum vote time and time between votes externally to prevent crashing.
  • Fixed the "Weapon Trail VFX" setting not affecting flail skins (Dressad's Roaster, Cruciform Firebox & The Brass Flail). Furthermore, particles on the Feeble Mace have been disabled for consistency with other maces.
  • Fix a crash that would occur when trying to apply a weapon illusion from a sign in reward in the same session.
  • Fixed an issue where fire grenade, frag grenade, and explosive barrels dealt damage over time for a longer duration than intended. Lowered DoT instances from 3 to 1 on beings hit by impact damage.
  • Fix rare crash when spawning orbs in the Chaos Wastes. Orbs are also now much more prone to successfully spawn in complex landscapes.
  • Fixed ranged weapon proc buffs not triggering on target dummies in the Keep.
  • Against the Grain: Fixed an issue where enemies could be partially submerged in the ground while progressing the "Reach the Farm" objective.
  • Festering Ground: Fixed an issue where the skybox looked all kind of jank when viewed from within the Waystone portal at mission's end.
  • Fortunes of War: Fixed a cheese spot.
  • A Grudge Served Cold: Bomb Cart objective marker now follows the cart when moving. Cart should now be suitably destroyed after the explosion.
  • A Grudge Served Cold: Fixed a snowpile that had no collision allowing players to fall through the floor.
  • A Grudge Served Cold: Fixed a lighting issue in the area proceeding the Bomb Cart event.
  • A Grudge Served Cold: Fixed a hangledge that was very distant from the ledge itself making pick up near impossible whilst progressing the "Locate the Vault" objective.
  • A Grudge Served Cold: Fixed an issue where enemies could walk through a closed gate whilst progressing the "Locate the vault" objective.
  • Into the Nest: Fixed a spot where players could get stuck.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-ha!: Fixed an issue where the objective icons could be shown incorrectly/not update appropriately.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-ha!: Fixed a spot where Ratling Gunners could shoot through a closed gate.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-ha!: Fixed an issue where there were one too many Tomes up for grabs in the mission.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-ha!: Fixed a rocky outcrop in the bridge area that had no collision.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-ha!: Fixed a spot during the 'Escape the Hilltop' objective where players could get stuck.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-ha!: Fixed an issue where players could respawn behind the group during the mid-event.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-ha!: Fixed an issue where players could respawn in exactly the same spot as opposed to in a neat little row.
  • Mission of Mercy: Fixed the Bell Ban challenge.
  • Mission of Mercy: Added additional player respawn points to the mid-event.
  • Mission of Mercy: Fixed a spot in the lava fall where players could get stuck.
  • Mission of Mercy: Fixed the ending terror event where specials could be stacked between waves.
  • Mission of Mercy: Clients can now fail the 'Come Prepared' challenge appropriately should the party not meet the criteria.
  • Skittergate: Fixed an issue where clients who hotjoined during the finale could not see the Skittergate VFX.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed an issue where a player could hotjoin in to an already completed puzzle and be softlocked from progressing/catching up to the group.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed an branch on a big tree that had no collision but looked really interesting to jump on to.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed some rocks beside the same big tree that had no collision.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed a spot in the library where Saltz could see through a ceiling and kill stuff he shouldn't be able to from such a position.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed the poison pool not dealing any damage to players.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed a potion that didn't spawn appropriately unless the host themselves smashed the vase that encased it.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed an issue where battle music would not wind down in the Library area even when combat had ended.
  • Tower of Treachery: Fixed an area where players could get out of bounds.
  • Righteous Stand, Convocation of Decay, Athel Yenlui, Dark Omens, Trail of Treachery & Tower of Treachery: End of level explosions should now appropriately kill remaining enemies.

Hotfix 5.0.3 - June 26
  • Fixed a crash that would manifest should a player hot join a Tower of Treachery mission if any of the five urns have been destroyed.

  • We're switching the rewards for Recruit and Cataclysm 'Karak Azgaraz' mission completion Okri's Challenges, where now the Recruit challenges will offer the Keep paintings, and the Cataclysm challenges will offer Shillings.
  • Fix for valve door sounds being triggered on 'Mission of Mercy' level load.
  • Fixed a crash on Mission of Mercy when more than one person activates the elevator.
  • Fixed a crash when shooting at Sister of the Thorn's wall on Recruit or Veteran difficulty.

Features, Tweaks and Fixes
  • Added a new setting, Weapon Trail VFX, to control what first-person weapon visual effects are shown on melee weapon attacks. It has 3 levels: Normal, Disabled for criticals, Off for all effects.
    • Currently the Feeble Mace, Dressad's Roaster, Cruciform Firebox & The Brass Flail are not effected by this setting, which will be corrected in the next update.
  • The game window icon will now flash in the taskbar if it is not in focus when a level starts (start of the intro cutscene).
  • The scoreboard now shows the completed level and difficulty.
  • Fixed Witch Hunter Captain Saltzpyre's "Heretic Sighted" talent refreshing when tag duration ends and triggering on tagging downed allies.
  • The Heroic Masquerade Collection bundle should now correctly include Sienna's Thyrus Gormann collection.
  • Fixed an issue where quest objective markers weren't updating for clients in the brewing area of Tower of Treachery.
  • Fixed some cases where bosses could slide about.
  • Fixed two missing dialogue sound events for Kruber (subtitles were showing but no sound).
  • Fixed a rare issue where the same weapon skin would show up multiple times in a player's inventory.
  • Fixed a bug where two characters could say that they hear a ratling gunner at the same time.
  • Fixed a crash from firing Waywatcher or Pyromancer ability after aiming it while all nearby enemies die with ragdolls turned off.
  • Fixed a Twitch mode crash that could happen when connected to a channel with a high amount of chat activity.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur if you force closed the game on PC while playing a video.
  • Damage dealt by Adept's Battle Wizard's ability 'Fire Walk' and Unchained's ability 'Living Bomb' now count towards end of round statistics. (fixed the use of the internal career name in this patch note, sorry for the confusion)
  • Fixed various localisation issues.
  • Fixed various miscellaneous crashes.




The Captains Series is an coaching event designed to help people try out modded and higher difficulties, help them grow by being paired with a coach from their region, welcome them to the modded community, and introduce them to the various Onslaught Series events and formats. How exactly it works, you can find in the official Onslaught Series discord under #announcements.

The signup period is open from now until June 26th. You can sign up alone or with your friends and you will be paired with a coach available in your timezone. The coaching period runs from June 30th–July 14th.

Karak Azgaraz is a free new content update coming on June 13th to PC, containing three fan-favorite maps, newly remastered and updated for Warhammer: Vermintide 2.

That's right, Lohner is sending you back to Khazid Kro to help a struggling dwarf war party sabotage the Skaven army. You're going to have to traverse through the Dwarfen stronghold once more and turn the tide in your favour by collapsing the invasion tunnels. Once done, light the beacons and signal Karak Azgaraz to mount their counterattack and foil the Pactsworn’s devious plans!

    What is Warhammer Skulls?
    Warhammer Skulls kicks off officially May 25 through June 1 2023! Every year, Warhammer Community celebrates all the best Warhammer video games, whether they’re upcoming or out now. With sneak peeks, previews, and free stuff for literally dozens of games set across the worlds of Warhammer.

    • Reimplemented 'Bloodshot' affecting True Flight Volley properly increasing the amount of arrows shot by 1.
    • Improved target selection of homing projectiles like True Flight Volley and The Burning Head causing them to prioritize elites and specials more when being shot without a target.
    • Fixed a crash that could occur when quitting game during the Prologue.
    • Fixed various other miscellaneous crashes.
    💀💀 *Daemon Skulls effects 💀💀
    (active between May 25th and June 4th)
    Picking up skulls can give various buffs at random (and a debuff); these being:
    • 15% Power Level
    • 12% Attack Speed
    • 20% Crit Chance
    • 20% Movement Speed
    • 25% Cooldown Regeneration
    • Suffering intense damage over time when the player has not killed stuff in a while is active once buffs are applied.

    Welcome to year 4, season 1 of the community-run Onslaught Series Tournament, where brave teams come to die in glory or live in anguish!

    A FULL LIST OF THE TOURNAMENT RULES CAN BE FOUND IN THE DISCORD.

    A quick start list of allowed mods for new participants can be found here.

    The tournament will run and be streamed live on Fatshark's Twitch channel 20-21 May from 4pm to 7pm UTC & 27-28 May at the same times.

    For those who are new to this community tournament, we've outlined a brief summary of the event:
    • 3 hours to complete 4 given maps in strict order
    • Lose points for each failed attempt or forfeited map
    • 4 tiers of difficulty, 1 on each day of the tournament in this order (T1-T4): C1 DWONS, C3 DWONS, C3 DWONS+, Dutch Spice Tourney Version
    • No Beastmen mod will be used
    • Tourney Balance mod will be used
    Our casters for the stream will be the magnificent Ishka and Corbec, potentially with additional guest casters throughout.

    There will be a map pool drawing closer to the tournament; and as of this post you may begin signing up your teams with the given format in the signup channel of the Discord.

    Signups start now and end on the 19th of May.

    IN ADDITION:
    There will be another competition running within the tournament games which is totally optional. This mini-event is simply a group photo contest during tournament games, with the criteria for best photo being a combination of riskiest, best fashion and general epic-ness of the photo. The prize (as provided by FS) for this contest is:

    Hotfix 4.9.5

    Liar Ahead' Challenge should now trigger more consistently.
    Tower Dasher' Challenge has seen some changes:
    • Hot-joining players are no longer eligible for challenge.
    • Timer now starts when intro-cinematic ends.
    Tower of Treachery fixes:
    • Fixed a closed gate and a snow pile which had no collision.
    • Fixed some lights, textures and materials which could disappear when viewed from certain angles.
    • Fixed some textures and materials which could diaplay a lower quality variant (LOD).
    • Fixed a jumping route which looked possible but wasn't in the room with the wards.
    • Fixed some spots where players (and some where bots) could get stuck.
    • Fixed some spots with invisible walls which didn't make sense.
    • Fixed an area where players would try to path to players in a manner that didn't make sense.
    • Fixed various areas with some materials engaged in a z-fight.
    • Fixed an area where an invisible blocker would eat friendly ranged attacks.
    • Fixed an couple of out of bounds spots where players could leave the play area.
    • Fixed a door that a hotjoining player could not pass through if they joined the match after the door was opened.
    • Fixed an issue where the Canon wouldn't animate correctly.
    Other Game Fixes:
    • Fixed a pretty random crash caused by players jumping on Righteous Stand.
    • Fixed crash when joining an instance of The Enchanter's Lair after previously having completed the gargoyle puzzle in a previous run of the map during the same game session.
    Performance:
    • Patch 4.9.0 included some changes to the internal Lua garbage collection systems that reduced the time spent in the collector significantly, netting an overall FPS increase. While for most players this has been beneficial, we have received reports of players experiencing frequent freezes due to the collector not being able to keep up. An initial investigation determined the freezes are more likely to occur when running mods and on specific hardware combinations. We're reverting the changes for now while we investigate further.
    • Added extra logging to help diagnose Lua deadlock crashes.


    3 April

    We just pushed another hotfix live for the Tower of Treachery update.

    Hotfix 4.9.4
    • Fixed a frame perfect crash that could occur when interacting with a door.
    • Fixed a crash that could occur when scrolling with the mouse level filter in the lobby browser.
    • Added more fixes to fall damage to avoid player death when entering the Skittergate.

    We just pushed a hotfix live for the Tower of Treachery update.

    Hotfix 4.9.3
    • Fixed a door that had no collision in Tower of Treachery.
    • Additional fixes to the Waystalker activated ability to furthrer limit it being affected by Bloodshot.
    • Fixed bug where Handmaiden passive 'Ariel's Benison' didn't grant the revival healing bonus.
    • Fixed some cases where Olesya's intro VO was not working sometimes.
    • Fixed a crash when hotjoining after players progress past the end area.
    • Fixed a crash when hotjoining after players pulled the secret lever in the dining room.
    • Fixed a crash when hovering 'return to keep' button on score screen, using gamepad, while accepting an invite request.
    • Fixed frame perfect crash while end event skulls target exploding barrels.
    • Fixed various additional localisation issues.

    We just pushed a hotfix live for the Tower of Treachery update that went live yesterday.

    • Fixed Huntsman activated ability sound playing twice when exiting stealth on receiving a ranged hit.
    • Fixed an issue where Olesya was still standing around for clients when hotjoining after cutscene has played for Host.
    • Fixed an issue where Sofia was sitting throughout her introduction cutscene and after it has ended for clients.
    • Fixed a crash caused by proccing Sister of the Thorn's 'Atharti's Delight' talent as client.
    • Fixed a crash that would happen should players enter the correct input to unlock the stash rooms in the end event.
    • Fixed a crash that would happen when picking up the 10th skull in Tower of Treachery.
    • Fixed some spots in the Tower of Treachery where players could get stuck.
    • Fixed Ranger Veteran being permanently invisible when using the 'Surprise Guest' talent.
    • Fixed other harder to specify crashes.
    • Fixed various localisation issues.

    Heroic Masquerade Collection



    Five consummate conjurations of the costumer's art designed to transform battle-weary warriors into the greatest heroes this world - or any other - has seen.

    Together with Tower of Treachery we will be adding the new premium cosmetics Heroic Masquerade Collection to the in-game store, based on some of the more iconic names in Warhammer Fantasy! In total, there’ll be 10 new cosmetics, one hat and one skin for each hero. The cosmetics will be available in bundles and as separate items.

    • The Belegar Ironhammer collection contains two premium cosmetics for Bardin Goreksson: the Angrund Helm and Angrundklad skin. The cosmetics can be used on Bardin Goreksson’s Outcast Engineer career.
    • The Alarielle the Radiant collection contains two premium cosmetics for Kerillian: The Crown of Avelorn and the High Robes of Isha skin. The cosmetics can be used on Kerillian’s Handmaiden career.
    • The Louen Leoncouer collection contains two premium cosmetics for Markus Kruber: Crown of the True King and the Raiment of the True King skin. The cosmetics can be used on Markus Kruber’s Grail Knight career.
    • The Thyrus Gormann collection contains two premium cosmetics for Sienna Fuegonasus: Gormann's Cindercage and the Patriarch's Finery skin. The cosmetics can be used on Sienna Fuegonasus’ Battle Wizard career.
    • The Luthor Huss collection contains two premium cosmetics for Victor Saltzpyre: Headband of Huss and the Prophet's Armour skin. The cosmetics can be used on Victor Saltzpyre’s Warrior Priest career.

    • Convocation of Decay - The end event logic has been reworked to stop the event getting stuck. You shouldn't notice a difference here.

    SOUND

    • Fixed an issue where the sound effects from Waywatcher Kerillian's ult could rarely get stuck in an infinite loop.
    • Fixed an issue where using Blunderbuss in Huntsman's activated ability would play multiple sounds.
    • Fixed a bug where two of the same enemy VO callouts could happen at the same time.

    UI/UX

    • Added an icon for "Temple of Shadows" in the Chaos Wastes Twitch Mode voting interface on the map screen.
    • UI: Removed Remote Control Server Menu from the game (was on F2 keybind).
    • UI: Multibind: Fixed a case in which unbinding the first key would instead unbind the second.
    • UI: Multibind: Fixed resetting all binds not working for keys with are by default unassigned.
    • Fixed a UI crash when an invalid difficulty is selected (eg: players switching from the modded realm to the official realm).
    • Fixed double-negative appearing in the "Disable Weekly Events" Twitch setting.
    • Changed the "Inventory full" warning to also show when opening multiple chests is not possible. Added a background to improve legibility.
    • Adjusted the character info in the bottom-right of the inventory UIs to prevent text overlapping with the input legend when the game is in Italian or German.
    • Various localisation fixes and tweaks.

    FIXES AND TWEAKS

    • Fixed Kerillian Shade's 'Cloak of Pain' re-stealth sometimes being instantly consumed when hitting enemies with dual weapons.
    • Fixed a bug where Bardin Ranger could become invisible indefinitely.
    • Fixed bug where enemies would keep chasing and attempting to attack invisible players.
    • Fixed a bug where Bardin Engineer bots could behave in a nutty manner when switching between his career skill gun and regular ranged weapon.
    • Fixed various unspecifiable crashes and networking issues.
    • Fixed an issue where Saltzpyre Zealot's face morphed into a nightmare scene when equipping the Holy Great Hammer.
    • Equipped torches now light up the environment properly when inspecting your character in third person.
    • Fixed "Masterwork Pistols" (Brace of Pistols illusion) using the same model and icon as "One Eye's Revenge".
    • Fixed an issue where Bardin and Victors faces were not animating.

    Today, we speak with Mikael, one of our level designers in the shark tank, as we look back at some of the most iconic maps in Warhammer: Vermintide 2, and the thought process behind their development in celebration of our fifth anniversary.




    Hi, my name is Mikael, and I'm an experienced Level Designer who's been at Fatshark since 2016. I started working on four of the levels for the main game and have been involved with all of the adventure levels since then, particularly focusing on level art. And of course, level design can be a process until we get to something we’re happy with. Here are a few of my favorite stories from the past five years of development.



    Against the Grain

    The end event here was originally intended to be an open arena, but it was confusing and hard to balance, so we made it a linear event with a number of smaller “arenas” instead. This way, we could balance the event and control the experience better.

    The boss in the barn was originally always a Rat Ogre, but as we added more bosses to the game, we added randomized bosses to the barn as well. But for a long while, the concept art with the Ogre in the barn was an accurate depiction of that section.



    The Skittergate

    When we originally started designing the Skittergate, it was not intended to be a normal level that would be part of the regular quickplay mission rotation, and Rasknitt was not initially meant to be the focus of the mission. Originally, the idea was that players could only choose the level at will.

    Normally, all level missions were made to be replayable, as if the story repeated itself, so we couldn’t make changes to an area that would be too substantial to logically be rebuilt, but this was a unique level, and a lot of the story points fit into it—Rasknitt, the Skittergate, the journey to Norsca, and how the Uberserik Five were supposed to destroy it all. So we decided that it would be okay that we’d have to basically tear down a huge chunk of the city during it, even if it was a definite conclusion to the campaign maps.



    Back to Ubersreik

    When we decided to remake some levels from Warhammer: Vermintide-The End Times to Warhammer: Vermintide 2, we chose the levels that we felt would work best with the new game. A lot of the levels in the first game were too short, and there were discussions about potentially combining them, but we ultimately went for some of the most popular and that would work best with the new game mechanics.

    The new challenge puzzles were made based on one philosophy: one puzzle should be co-op oriented, one should engage the community, and one should be randomized to be different for each playthrough.

    The candles in the cemetery were initially set up with such a short timer that players would have to cooperate to light them all, but we felt it should be possible to solve it when playing solo as well, so we made sure there would be enough time for each candle, just in case.

    The secret brick in the Horn of Magnus we set up with the intent to be just about impossible to simply stumble upon the right combination. The hope was that the community would find different bricks and post about their findings online, and then hopefully someone would notice that there was a room with some candles behind some bars that wasn’t there in the original level.



    Dark Omens

    While we were working on Dark Omens, we felt that it was a bit out of character for the U5 to walk into a Beastmen trap, but we also felt that it was a nice way of introducing the Beastmen, so we went with it anyways. We were at one point joking about, “What if the players could somehow ambush the Beastmen as they lay waiting?” but we felt it would be a bit too tricky to implement it, so it remained just as in-joke between level designers for a bit. A couple months later, we had the idea to have the players walk around the trap. But it needed to have its own perils as we didn’t want players taking the detour every time without weighing the risk in doing so. Originally, these perils were supposed to have two patrols you would have had to avoid, but for performance reasons, we replaced them with specials shortly before release.



    The Curse of Drachenfels

    We wanted to keep these similar to the Drachenfels level these were based off of in the original game, as they were already a player favorite, but still give some fresh looks and things to discover. It was important for us to give the player the feeling of entering a grand castle in Enchanter’s Lair, so we added a longer entrance section, but at the same time, we wanted to start the level deep in the castle catacombs, so we needed a solution to get players from the entrance floor down to the basement as fast as possible. We actually wanted to add an elevator here, but for lore reasons, elevators aren’t allowed in castles, so instead we decided to add a trap door that dumped the player into the basement, which felt more in-line with the story.

    While Castle Drachenfels in the original game was originally more maze-like, we decided to streamline and make the rooms more unique so it would be easier to understand where you are and find your way around, and balconies were added to a give a sense of progression upwards from the basement as you went through the level.

    The voices the Uberserik Five hear speaking to them was inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula by Coppola. In the movie, there were lots of whispering voices and disturbing noises, and we wanted to do something similar. But since games are an interactive medium, we felt we could make it more personal by having the voice speak to the player character, hinting at some dark secret from their past that only the player could hear.
