Spintires: MudRunner

It's been quite a journey for the extraordinarily niche ("so niche it makes Munich Bus Simulator look mainstream") off-road driving simulator Spintires: From surprise success through a beef with the publisher, allegations of sabotage, resumption of development, and ultimately a remastered edition, with updated graphics and new vehicles and maps, that arrived last year. And soon—likely next year—we'll get a full-on sequel.

The follow-up will continue the evolution of the title, ditching "Spintires" completely in favor of just Mudrunner 2. But it doesn't sound like a dramatic departure from the core concept: The new game "once again dares players to take charge of incredible all-terrain vehicles across extreme landscapes," publisher Focus Home Interactive said.

It didn't state specifically whether the game will return to Russia for the extreme off-road shenanigans, but said that it will bring back Spintires' "renowned physics engine, realistic driving mechanics, intense environments and sandbox gameplay, along with a host of new features and enhancements."

Mudrunner 2 will be more fully revealed early next year at the What's Next de Focus event.

Hello everybody!

Yes, it's that time again - time for the monthly community update, where we let you know what's going on in Spintires: MudRunner behind the scenes.

Firstly, let's start with a thank you! Spintires: MudRunner has sold over one million copies, and we're incredibly thankful to the community for helping us get to that breathtaking number. We wouldn't have gotten there without you!

Now, on to the meat and bones of this update.

This month, we'd like to tell you about the MudRunner USA expansion that we've been teasing for a little while.

So, to start - the name. MudRunner USA will actually be called American Wilds, and will be an expansion pack for Spintires: MudRunner, and will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch, at a to-be-announced date this fall.

American Wilds will come with many features that you have been asking for, including two new sandbox maps and licensed vehicles. We're not ready to announce what those vehicles are at this time, however, but we very much look forwards to introducing them to you!

Pricing wise, American Wilds will be available in two forms - you'll be able to buy it individually as an expansion pack, or as a full package with the original Spintires: MudRunner, in the Spintires: MudRunner - American Wilds edition. There will be more information about the pricing of this closer to release.

We don't have screenshots to show you of American Wilds at the moment, due to the fact that vehicles are still being worked on. Once we do have them, we'll show them to you here. We thank you for your patience with us on this.

Many thanks, and we look forwards to showing you more about American Wilds as time goes on!

The world’s muckiest puzzle game gets trickier today with the addition of a mode that’ll send drivers scrambling over hills and getting stuck in mud while trying to collect logs placed randomly around the map. The latest Spintires: MudRunner “free DLC”/content update arrives today, adding two new vehicles, that new ‘Scavenge’ mode, and one new map to scavenge on. Beyond this, work continues on new mud in the game temporarily titled MudRunner USA. (more…)

Spintires: MudRunner - Iyagovos

Hello, and welcome once again to the Spintires: MudRunner Community Update!

First things first, let's talk about The Ridge!

The Ridge is the latest DLC coming to Spintires: MudRunner, and is totally free and out now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One!

In The Ridge, you will discover a brand new map, two new vehicles, and Scavenge game mode. This new game mode, unique to The Ridge (but able to be implemented by modders in their own maps) tasks players with needing to track down and recover logs from random "scavenge locations" around the map. These locations are randomly selected each time you start the map, and are spawns of single logs that must be recovered using a crane attachment!

The Ridge also introduces two new vehicles, the D-538 and the B-6A, which you can learn about in their vehicle presentations, here! The new DLC also introduces new vehicle add-ons with which to take on The Ridge's treacherous hills.

The Ridge Changelog:

  • New gameplay mode - Scavenge
  • New map - The Ridge
  • New vehicles - B-6A and B-538
  • Locked trucks are now covered in cloth
  • Wheel physics have been improved (wheels are now softer)
  • Anchors and cranes are now more powerful and move more smoothly
  • Automatic gearboxes have now been improved
  • Mod-related stability improvements (crashes due to memory limitations have been fixed)
  • The in-game mod browser now displays information about the mods
  • Various other fixes
  • Added the ability to disable tips about shortcut keys
You may want to continue playing on the older version of Spintires: MudRunner, so that your mods stay compatible. you use find the public branch ver_18_03_06 in your betas.

To access this, right-click Spintires: MudRunner, click properties, and then betas. In the drop-down menu, select "ver_18_03_06". This will give you the ability to play on the previous version of Spintires: MudRunner.

Community Update:

Now, onto what is coming in the future!

We're now continuing to work more fully on what is coming out in the next releases - which would be MudRunner USA and MudRunner Switch (both working titles). As such, it means that we won't have much new information to give in the next couple of months about what we're working on with Spintires: MudRunner, aside from just repeating the same announcements each week.

As we move to working more fully on these two releases, we don't want the community updates to just say the same thing over and over - so the plan for future updates will be to showcase cool things from the community! To do this, we will begin showing off the best maps that we find, cool vehicle mods, and other interesting creative works made by you! Should you see anything, or make anything, that you're proud of, please send us a link to it, we'd love to see it too!

Thank you, and as always, we'll talk to you soon!
Spintires: MudRunner

Spintires: Mudrunner, the game about driving Soviet vehicles through Soviet mud for no particular reason, is getting new, free DLC at the end of the month called The Ridge. It adds a new coastal map to the game that's bisected by a mountain ridge players can cut across to save time—if they're willing to take the risk.

The Ridge also adds two new vehicles to the Spintires world, the D-538 heavy duty tractor, and the B-6A lightweight tractor. It's a safe bet that neither of these machines will lay down a ten-second quarter mile, but they can probably drag a small office building, and you can use them on any map in the game as long as you've unlocked enough progression points.

There's a new type of gameplay in store as well, called Scavenging. Instead of picking up all your logs at one place, they're scattered all over the map and you'll have to find and collect them before they can be delivered. Which really typifies the Spintires experience: It's not about competition or victory, but simply the act of doing—a Sisyphean contemplation of life in grinding gears and impenetrable mire. And for those who like it, it's compelling.

Spintires: Mudrunner – The Ridge comes out on May 29, and will be free for everyone.

Spintires: MudRunner - Iyagovos

Available on PC and consoles, Spintires: MudRunner is releasing the free Ridge DLC on the 29th of May, a free content update that includes a new map, new vehicles, and new add-ons to explore and experiment with.

The Ridge is a coastal map split in half by a mountain ridge. Players will need to take a lot of care if they’re looking to cut time by travelling across the center.

In addition to a brand new map, two new vehicles are being introduced, the D-538, a heavy duty tractor, and the B-6A, a lightweight tractor. These two vehicles can be used on any map, provided you have enough progression points unlocked.

Completing The Ridge requires players to utilize a new type of delivery gameplay called Scavenging. Logs are now scattered across the map, and players will have to find them at various locations in the wild to complete deliveries and earn unlock points.

Spintires: MudRunner offers incredible content and unique experiences - it's a genre of its own, reinventing the rules and offering new challenges for players looking for emergent encounters and true-to-life off-roading situations.

Dedicated players and driving enthusiasts will appreciate the hyper-realistic driving sensations thanks to an advanced physics engine, a differential transmission system, soft-tire simulation, as well as realistic interactions between vegetation, mud, water, and your vehicle.

Spintires: MudRunner’s next free content DLC, The Ridge, releases on May 29th.
Spintires: MudRunner - Iyagovos

Hello all!

It's time for another one of those regular Community Updates!

This time around, we're actually going to start off talking about something a little more immediate, and making an announcement!

We're happy to announce The Ridge, the second free DLC for Spintires: MudRunner!

In The Ridge DLC, we'll be introducing a brand new map, two new vehicles, and, for the first time, a brand-new gameplay mode.

On The Ridge, you will find a towering mountain ridge that divides the map into two areas, and that is incredibly difficult to cross. This will be made trickier with the introduction of the two new vehicles, the D-538 and the B-6A. We will have more details on these vehicles in the future in individual vehicle profiles, but both vehicles will also introduce new add-ons to the game as well!

These new add-ons will help players tackle the difficult new game mode being introduced to The Ridge, Scavenge.

Scavenge mode, unique to The Ridge, is a mode where there are no log stations. This means that you won't be able to just collect logs and transport them. Instead, there are now random "scavenge locations". These locations are two or three locations that are randomly selected each time you start the map, and that spawn static logs which must be collected with a crane!

We don't currently have a specific planned release date for The Ridge, but we currently plan for a release date at the end of May. We will continue to add screenshots to this post as we have them to share with you.

As has become the norm for these community updates, I'll also let you know what the team are currently working on, and what to expect in the future.

We continue to work on MudRunner USA, and will have more information on this in the future, but we are currently looking into our options towards licensed vehicles for this.

We are hugely grateful to the dedicated and passionate modding community for helping us make Spintires: MudRunner the best game it can be, but, for now, we're only exploring what options we have, no concrete plans to implement mods on consoles in the short run.

Lastly, the Nintendo Switch version of Spintires: MudRunner is still in development, but we don't have much more to say about this currently.

Thank you, all, and we'll talk to you soon!

Probably the main reason to buy Spintires: MudRunner if you already owned the wonderful original is the prospect of ongoing support, of what the game might become under the stewardship of publishers who aren’t publicly feuding with the game’s creator. Today saw the release of a new update expanding the muddy drive ’em up’s Steam Workshop to support maps too, making it easier to download and play other players’ creations. Another free content update will follow, and work has also begun on some American mud. (more…)

Spintires: MudRunner - Iyagovos

Hello all,

Today, we're very happy to release an update that adds Workshop Map Support to Spintires: MudRunner on PC. What this means for you is that we now officially support map mods in Spintires: MudRunner, and players will be able to upload and download their creations through the Steam Workshop, in the same way that they can for trucks.

You will find an update to both Spintires: MudRunner and the Spintires: MudRunner Editor.

Should you need help learning how modding tools work in Spintires: MudRunner, here is our official guide. This will teach you to make both map mods and vehicle mods.

Some community members have also done very useful guides, which can be found here.

  • Multiple bug fixes and improvements to level editing mode.
  • Undo/redo history now works for changing object position and orientation.
  • Trucks are now better visualised on the map. Truck/trailer/addon picker dialog added.
  • Truck orientation can now be arbitrary. (Trucks are no longer required to be landed.)
  • Mods can now contain levels that are properly exported to the workshop.
  • Improvements were made to the "import spintires-2016 level" function.
  • Truck textures are now better optimised when exporting to the workshop.
  • Added "default screenshot for the item" function added for mods.

If you want to play older maps on this new version, you will need to convert them to the game using the conversion tool in the edtior. Once this is done, the older maps will be compatible with Spintires: MudRunner

Should you not want to move to this new update just yet, you are able to stay on the current branch by going to "public branch ver_18_01_29b" in your available betas.

Thank you, and we'll talk to you soon,

The Spintires: MudRunner team.
