Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You - Osmotic Dan
Hello all! We’ve got really cool news for Orwell fans!

Ever since Orwell Seasons One and Two released, we’ve constantly been asked whether we’d localize the game in other languages. Osmotic has always been interested in doing this, particularly since the game has such a strong narrative focus. What better way to ensure that players around the world can enjoy the game than to translate it into their language?

So what’s been stopping us? Well, Orwell is specifically designed and coded in such a way that we had to build out a unique method of implementing translations, from scratch—which added time and other challenges to this goal.

But—here’s the exciting bit! We’re now working through those challenges in a bunch of ways, one of which is hiring a professional localization service.
Soon we’ll be able to release Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You to multiple new languages, including German, French, Spanish, Russian, and Simplified Chinese. Wau! C'est génial! Hurra! 厉害!

However, we know this doesn’t cover every language spoken by our fans. So we wanted to offer all of you the opportunity to help us bring the game to YOUR language… and to achieve that, we’ve created a Crowdin project for Orwell, at translate.orwell-game.com. If you’re a fan of the game, and you’d like to participate in translating the game into Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, or other languages, let us know!

We’re really thrilled at the opportunity to bring Orwell to new players all over the globe, and we wanted to thank the community for their continued support—especially those who choose to dedicate their time to helping us localize more widely.

Since there is a lot of development work to implement localization, right now we are focusing on Season One but, once complete, we will investigate localizing Orwell: Ignorance is Strength.

This project is one of our top priorities right now. You can expect to hear more updates on continued development and timing, as soon as possible.

Thank you!! Merci! Danke! Спасибо!

We look forward to bringing you more news soon.

Keep travelling!

Orwell is a cautionary tale that invokes the themes of 1984, and certainly sounds like nightmare material for the 21st century. I m pretty sure it resembles something from the mind of Charlie Brooker, creator of Black Mirror. An adventure game set entirely in the “Orwell OS”, worth playing right through to the outcome, whatever that may be.

Yeah man, I love the 80s. Blasting Sisters Of Mercy out my boombox as I cycle round town on my Raleigh Lizard with Kellogg’s Corn Flakes reflectors on the spokes, doing the electric boogaloo in front of the telescreen like a good citizen, getting wrecked with the lads down the Chestnut Tree Caf , then waking up with my head strapped into a cage of ravenous rats. Hell yeah 1984 forever! If you’re well retro too, you might want to check out dystopian surveillance game Orwell, as being given away free for the next day-and-a-bit.

Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You

Orwell is a game about life in a surveillance state, where people are tracked through digital footprints analyzed by massive computer networks and a handful of human analysts—you know, like today. In the wake of a terror attack, it falls to you to put that system to work, to assist the security forces in the hunt for the culprit.

Naturally, your efforts are fraught with ethical dilemmas. How much do you share? What if you're wrong? What value do you put on privacy when the security of the nation is at stake—and what's the value of a nation that strips that most basic freedom from its citizens? For the most part it works: As Shaun said in his 78/100 review, it may not be subtle, but Orwell is "a well told mystery framed by a captivating storytelling device."

Getting to the point of all this, it's also free for the next couple of days on the Humble Store. Just hit the Orwell store page, click the "add to cart" button, and then rock the "checkout" button, unless you want to do some more shopping before you wrap up. Either way, once you've finished up you'll receive a Steam key via email. Activate that and you're off to the races.

There are a couple of conditions attached to this deal: You've got to grab it prior to 10 am PT/1 pm ET on August 18, and the Steam key has to be activated prior to 10 am PT/1p ET on September 1. If you like it, a three-part sequel entitled Orwell: Ignorance is Strength is available for $10.

The third and final episode of dystopian surveillance game Orwell: Ignorance Is Strength launched today, completing the follow-up to 2016’s Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You. As before, this series puts players in charge of an oppressive state’s wide-ranging surveillance software to pry into people’s lives, investigate them and their connections, and try to figure out what’s going on – and what you want the official record to say is going on. Ah, what the hey, I’m sure you’ll end up with your head in a box of rats either way, may as well try to do something nice for someone, yeah? (more…)
