Hey everyone!

We've just released a new update for Seasons After Fall, with a few bug fixes and changes to how V-sync is handled.

Features
    Settings
  • V-sync is in "auto" mode by default. This mode deactivates V-sync if the framerate is too low, and reactivates it when it increases.

Bug Fixes
    Blocking Issues
  • Fix of a potential blocking issue with collisions (when you change the season, you’re now blocked by the first collision).
  • You can’t go through the roots blocking already completed regions anymore.
  • Fix of a rare issue with the automatic teleportation.

Performance
  • Enhanced performances on animated objets to fix framerate fluctuation in some regions.

Seasons After Fall

Seasons After Fall [official site] is Swing Swing Submarine’s addition to the slowly-expanding subgenre of platformers which feature foxes and charming artwork. Here you play as a spirit controlling a fox as you attempt to harness the power of the seasons at the bidding of a mysterious character. The main point of difference between Seasons After Fall and other pretty platformers is that you get to switch between seasons you’ve unlocked at will, which then changes elements of the puzzles. We covered Seasons After Fall [official site] quite some time ago, but in case you missed out, it’s a pretty little platformer where you guide a fox on a spiritual journey through the seasons, and it came out on Friday.

The fox has the power to manipulate the seasons, and you’ll need to use that ability to, say, grow trees or freeze waterfalls. Your ever-changing environment has an impact on how you’ll navigate your surroundings. Have a look:

We're pleased to announce a new update for Seasons After Fall!

Patch Notes 25913

Features
  • Comprehension
    • Better display of the activation symbol when solving the puzzle with the fireflies in the "Foliage" or "Pit".
    • Better display of the surrounding when unrolling a travel ribbon. The camera will change the zoom out and move on a better path to better let you guess where the ribbon is located.
    • Added a hint to help localize travel ribbon (small particles falling down from it).
    • Added a very subtle hint for the bird achievement.
  • Settings
    • Added new sliders in options for the Audio part! Now you can tweak "Music", "Voice" and "Sfx" separately.

Bug Fixes
  • Controls
    • The season selection with the right stick should be less sensitive (was sometimes even selecting the wrong season).
  • Visual
    • Better visual on water surfaces (in "Puddle" or "Pit" or the starting region). These surface we not using textures, just reflecting the surrounding.
  • Blocking Issues
    • A crawler was able to break a horizontal breakable trunk but missing to seed a pine in "Ranges", making you stuck when coming back with the summer fragment. The pine not being seeded will block the progression. The game will auto fix if you had the issue.
    • Exiting the game in "Cocoon" region after the 4th treasure having been given to you will create a blocking situation where the cutscene will not be played again when returning to the game, leading to a block. The game will auto fix if you had the issue.
    • Exiting the game in "Quagmire" region while a jellyfish was targeting a puddle will lead to a block since the puddle will never be activated when you return to the game. The game will auto fix if you had the issue.
  • Potential Blocking Issue
    • The "rain trees" were not always synchronised correctly with the water surface they belonged to. Leading to a rain tree always rejecting water, or the player being stuck forever on top of it (since the fox adopt a specific stuck animation).
    • The crawler which flies could be stuck in an animation after being carried by a wind flow.
  • Performances
    • A lot of small bad memory handling was leading the game to have some hiccup in some region ("Ranges" for sure).
    • Improved performances on animated rigged objects (more optimisation to come in futur release) to avoid low framerate on region with a lot of rigged objets.
  • Level design
    • Added a mushroom in "Pit" which will help you have a better flow when going back with the spring fragment.
  • Animation
    • Avoid a crawler pine to stay too long at a given dash state to prevent it from being stuck in the air (still experimental fix).
    • Horizontal breakable trunk not instant reacting after being hit by a snow ball.
  • Settings
    • Controller texture was too bright, and a frame was appearing in the in game menu.
    • Auto apply video settings when exiting the menu (avoid tu use the Apply entry that appears when a change is done but has to ba validated).
  • Misc
    • Added missing people in credits

Hey everyone!

We're pleased to announce a quick update for Seasons After Fall! Its goal is mainly to fix an issue launching automatically the game in French.

We have another update coming next week which will focus on performance for those of you encountering lower framerate in some regions.

Here is today's patchlog:

Fixes
  • The game was sometimes starting in french! Now the game should start in the language of your Steam Client. You can always change the voice and text language in the Settings.
  • The game was launching in 720p (or worst!) on first launch. Now it will start in the native resolution of your screen. The resolution can be then changed in the Settings.
  • Fix of several typos in credits and texts.
  • Fix of a potential blocking issue if you quit the game in a given section of the game after gathering one or more runes.
  • Small Level Art fix.

Feature
  • It's not possible anymore to quit or come back to the main menu during a cutscene (you can still pause it). We'll improve this in the future but, for now, it avoids some issues when you load a save after leaving during a cutscene moving objects.
