What is this extraordinary RPG about?

Children of Morta is a story-driven action RPG game about an unusual family of heroes. Lead the Bergsons, with all their flaws and virtues, against the forthcoming Corruption. Children of Morta sets its story in a distant land but copes with themes closer to our daily lives than one would expect. It’s a tale of simple emotions that we all know and value more than we sometimes dare to admit: love and hope, longing and uncertainty, and the loss and sacrifice we are willing to make to save the ones we care the most for. Children of Morta is not a story about saving the universe. It’s a story about a valiant family standing together while the world around them is being devoured by darkness.

Hi there, everyone!

We are super proud to announce that This War of Mine: Stories - Fading Embers IS OUT!

Fading Embers is the third installment in This War of Mine: Stories. It portrays the story of Anja. Living in a warzone and carrying a heavy burden, Anja wrestles with herself to answer the question of what is more important - survival of human legacy or the survival of a man.

Watch Fading Embers launch trailer:
The DLC contains new locations in the city of Pogoren and its vicinity, new shelters people can live in, enhanced locations from the original game, new playable survivors and citizens of Pogoren. Most importantly, the structure of 'Fading Embers' brings new ways to experience narrative along with non-linear structure leading to multiple endings based on player's decisions. Since the main theme orbits around human legacy, new gameplay mechanics introduces collecting art, deciding on its fate and more.

Lead Artist of Fading Embers, Tomasz Kisilewicz, underlines the new DLC this way: "The new This War of Mine: Stories episode touches on the subject of cultural heritage and what it means during the war. Is it worth preserving even at the darkest times? Or maybe when we're pushed to our limits, when death and starvation are omnipresent - we change our perception of art and culture? And despite the artistic value - paintings, sculptures, and rare books - become mere tools of survival. Just because by destroying them we can postpone our own demise. Is this cost justifiable? Players will have to face those dilemmas for themselves."

This War of Mine: Stories - Fading Embers (ep. 3) main features:
1. Theme and story:
  • tackle the challenge of preserving human heritage in a time of war
  • discover the story of Vyseni people and their culture
  • face dilemmas never before explored in This War Of Mine
2. New mechanics:
  • New narrative devices
  • New hub area to keep track of your progress
  • Collection Management mechanics including:
  • Securing the art collection
  • Ability to gather new pieces of art
  • Deciding on the fate of art pieces
3. Locations:
  • Brand new locations and sceneries
  • Two new shelters
  • Overhauled 9 locations from the original game
4. Characters:
  • 3 new playable survivors: Anja, Ruben, Zoran
  • Unique characters to meet and interact
DLC also features new music tracks and additional, smaller mechanics and lore bits.

Epic is finally beginning to introduce a feature we've been expecting for a while - cloud saves.

A player spotted the new function in the setting pages for recent Epic Store freebie, Moonlighter, and Epic boss Tim Sweeney confirmed the feature is enabled right now for a select few new games.

Reddit user u/arctyczyn also noted This War of Mine (which went up on the store for free at the same time as Moonlighter) currently supports cloud saves too. Sweeney noted Epic has "a bit more work to do before rolling it out more widely".

Epic continues its efforts to coax PC players onto its store this week with another batch of freebies in the form of This War of Mine and Moonlighter. And while you're here, I might as well let you know that Alan Wake and For Honor are up next.

Moonlighter - which is free right now, alongside This War of Mine - offers an intriguing blend of shop management and dungeon crawling. By day, plucky hero Will stacks shelves and tends to the whims of his customers, while his nightly pursuits involve monster slaying and exploration.

The gist of Moonlighter's cyclical action is that items found while adventuring make for exotic new goods to sell in-store, and, in turn, pay for better equipment for deeper dungeoning and even more exotic wares. Eurogamer liked it a lot on release. Perhaps not coincidentally, Moonlighter just launched its first paid DLC, Between Dimensions, on PC.

Developer 11 Bit Studios has, at long last, unveiled the third and final 'Stories' DLC episode for its critically acclaimed survival game This War of Mine. It's called Fading Embers, and is coming to PC and Mac on 6th August.

11 Bit Studios' Stories series began in 2017, some three years after the release of This War of Mine. Although it follows the same side-scrolling stealth-survival formula of the base game, it brings a greater narrative focus to the sombre, often harrowing action, telling the tales of specific characters attempting to live their lives in the same war-torn city.

To date, Stories has introduced Father's Promise - charting the journey of Adam, as he tries to save his daughter from the horrors of war - and The Last Broadcast, exploring "the role of truth in times of despair" through the eyes of a radio operator.

This War of Mine

This War of Mine, 11 bit Studios' haunting survival management game, isn't done with its grim warzone stories and distressing morality tests. A third piece of narrative-driven DLC is heading our way, promising another gloomy scenario and some big existential quandaries.

Fading Embers tells the story of Anja, trapped in a warzone and stuck carrying a heaven burden. 11 bit is keeping quiet about the details but says she'll be wrestling with a big question about what's more important—human life or the legacy we leave behind. Heavy stuff!

"The latest This War of Mine story focuses on choices that can lead to multiple endings," says lead artist Tomasz Kisilewicz. "These branches were necessary to help address the overarching question of what has the bigger value—things made by men that outlast life or the life of a man itself. When you think about it, humans stand against the destructive power of war not only to save themselves but also to save what entire generations have created."

It sounds a wee bit highfalutin, but This War of Mine typically manages to be fairly grounded, focusing on people even when it's dealing with big conundrums and the ethics of survival.

Fading Empires is due out on August 6.

Epic Games started out giving away one free game per fortnight to lure people into their new Store. Then they moved to weekly giveaways. Now, this week, they have two games free for keepsies. I don’t know where this acceleration of freebies ends, but I can tell you that you have seven days to grab This War Of Mine and Moonlighter.
