Lando Norris and Max Verstappen - arguably two of F1's hottest properties - have just wrapped up a pretty major achievement together, the two working as part of the joint Team Redline/Pure Racing Team effort to win iRacing's 24 Hours of Spa event.

The two were joined by sim racing veterans Max Benecke and Max Wenig and found themselves in the top split where they dominated proceedings, though that's not to say their race was without drama. With the race well into its final hour, Verstappen had a 'technical' issue - with his brake pedal falling off of his home rig - meaning that Lando Norris had to step in to stroke the Audi R8 LMS GT3 home. Despite the late hiccough, Team Redline PRT finished nearly 30 seconds up the road from its nearest competitor.

Norris and Verstappen are no strangers to the world of sim racing. Norris is a regular who also frequently streams his sessions on his own Twitch channel, while back in 2015 Max Verstappen pulled off an audacious move around the outside of Blanchimont in that year's Belgian Grand Prix - a move he'd practiced previously in iRacing before making it stick in the real world.

The 2019 Season 1 build is a big one – lots of new features and content!

Time of day changes, new skies and four new pieces of content headline the build. You can now literally race around the clock and watch the sunset and then rise again. Available in official series as well as hosted, the level of realism this feature adds is remarkable. Add in the new skyboxes and the immersion level is off the charts.

New tracks – Tsukuba , both Circuit 1000 and Circuit 2000, and the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, are now available – and they are both FREE to all members.

Two new cars are also available now – the Formula Renault 3.5 and F3 car. These are nice additions to the open-wheel ladder on iRacing. The FR3.5 features V8 power and lots of downforce while the F3 is a more junior level car, perfect for stepping up from the Skippy or Pro Mazda. Both cars will be in official series starting on December 11 as well as in 13th-week fun series.

Our latest dirt track is now available also - The Chili Bowl. This is a unique indoor dirt track that hosts the most significant Dirt Midget race of the year.

The BETA UI (User Interface) sees the introduction of a brand new Home Page where you can quickly see what is new and navigate to where you want to go – plus league racing can now be accessed from the BETA UI.

A new Crowd System significantly improves both the appearance of race crowds and the performance on your PC.

The iRacing Rallycross series has seen some improvements as well – new setups are available for every car and track combination, provided by the Kinda Fast iRX Group. The Rookie level iRX series has been switched to Fixed setups to make it easier to get into the series and let new participants focus on their driving and not engineering.

Vaguely aware that we’re living in a race sim golden age? Not sure which of the ‘Big Six’ you should invest your precious time and money in? Me too! Hopefully, by the time the inaugural Flare Path GP is over (Oct 14) little of that bewilderment will remain. Guided by the preferences and observations of that section of the RPS community that knows and loves realistic Cars Wot Go Fast games, it shouldn’t be hard to find a high-quality race sim that suits you and me to a GT. … [visit site to read more]

The 2016 Season 4 Build has been released and features the long-awaited debut of the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans, home of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. At 13.6 km and 8.4 miles, the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans is the second longest track on the iRacing service and, along with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, ranks as the world’s most historic active racing venue.

There’s more to the new build than the fantastic new Le Mans circuit, however. Our new dynamic night shadow maps will enhance the night racing experience, including realistic windshield reflections, while updates to the dynamic track have resulted in improved realism of heat mapping and rubber build-up. You’ll also notice a new character in the driver’s seat, as well as wind-animated flags at the circuits.

Brake bias adjustments have also been added to a small number of cars for Fixed Setup series, and we are also launching support for OpenVR /HTC Vive headsets, and antialiasing in our virtual reality views.

Also available is the Audi 90 GTO car and Nissan GTP ZX Turbo. These two historic cars are available for purchase and are racing in a brand new series on iRacing called the Kamel GT Series – utilizing many of the same tracks the real world counterparts raced on back in 1989.

The 2016 Season 3 Build is out and, with it, comes another legendary race track and a host of new and improved features.

Headlining the new build is Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari (more familiarly known as Imola), one time home of the Italian and the San Marino Grands Prix and one of Europe’s most historic circuits. And while South Boston Speedway has been available on the service for quite some time, the thorough artistic overhaul included in the build makes it seem almost like new.

Speaking of overhauls, the physics on every track have been updated to better model physics collisions with objects large and small, as well as to bring dust and gravel kicked-up by off-course excursions onto the racing surface along with the corresponding impact on the tire grip. The Gen 6 Chevies, Fords and Toyotas now sport the digital dashboards found on their NASCAR Sprint Cup counterparts, while V8 Supercar devotees will enjoy the improved stability of the 2014 Fords and Holdens. We’ve also upgraded the ability to retrieve accurate Incident Point statistics and we’ve even added preliminary DirectX 11 support for iRacers with an Oculus Rift.

A is for annus mirabilis

2016, you’ve an awful lot to live up to. I’ve been computer wargaming for over three decades now, and I can’t recall a better year than the one just gone. Vietnam ’65, Rule the Waves, Pike & Shot: Campaigns, Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa… for any grognard partial to bold designs, unusual settings, and absorbing, plausible action, the temptations were many. … [visit site to read more]
