140 - Carlsen

The soundtrack is now available as a DLC on Steam, and a slick vinyl can be preordered on IAm8Bit! Check it out!

140 - Carlsen

We are proud to announce that we have added a new level to 140, which is available for free, as well as the much anticipated official soundtrack sold as a DLC.

To celebrate the soundtrack launch and new content, 140 is 66% off the retail price for the next few weeks. Additionally, the lesser known follow-up to 140, the intense twin-stick shooter THOTH is 75% off during the same period.

Change log:
  • New level added with original mechanics and a new boss fight!
  • Less input lag and improved player character physics
  • Configuration pop up removed and game controllers now assign mappings automatically
  • The save game is now stored in a file (next to the executable) instead of in registry
  • Cloud saves
  • Trading cards
  • Faster loading of levels
  • Unity engine update from 3 to 5
  • (Major bug fix) On rare hardware, the game would not sync correctly to the music. This has been fixed.
  • (Major bug fix) D-pad now works correctly in the end boss
  • Lots of minor bug fixes and small improvements.

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time. >

I forgot I’d played 140, despite having reviewed it. I’d like to remind myself though, because it’s a smart music-infused platformer. … [visit site to read more]

Thoth [Steam page] is an interesting exercise in deconstructing the twin-stick shooter from the developer who brought us 140. Jeppe Carlsen, who also works with Limbo and Inside devs Playdead, has come up with something fairly unique here that you might want to try out if you enjoy Games That Feel Out of the Ordinary. … [visit site to read more]

Thanks, Thoth. Ththoth.

Platform game 140 got Graham a-groovin’ and a-boppin’ back in 2013 with cheery rhythmic bouncing quite different to designer Jeppe Carlsen’s work on gothdeath bouncer Limbo. Well, the years since then have seen Carlsen release another grimgrim platformer with the Limbo lot, Inside, and apparently work on another colourful project of his own. Over the weekend, Carlsen announced Thoth [Steam page], a colourful shoot ’em up that’ll be published by Double Fine in October. It’s got local co-op and all. Here, check out the teensy announcement trailer:

This is a dumb name for a game, though.

140 won the Excellence in Audio award at IGF 2013. It was created by Jeppe Carlsen in his spare time, because Carlsen works for Playdead during the day, where he was the lead designer on morbid, monochrome platformer Limbo. 140 is another sidescrolling platformer, but it’s the antithesis of that game. Let me tell you Wot I Think. (more…)
