Hi all!

The new Wave of Darkness patch is out, and we have spent a lot of time to tamper with several aspects of gameplay, namely, the spells. The spells are now completely "unstacked" which means you don't need to wait for casted spell to expire. In other words, you can cast as many spells as you like, as long as you have enough Faith to cast spells with.

Other than that, we have also fixed several annoying bugs, as well as some new features. For example, it is now possible to carry two-handed weapon while the secondary hand has an item in it.

We would also like to remind that Wave of Darkness supports Steam Controller! All you have to do is to find the template called "mUndays Wave of Darkness" and that's basically it.

Also, if you're new to Wave of Darkness, make sure to check the official Beginner's Guide!

Here is the full changelog for Patch 1.80:

  • change: protection spell effects should not be stackable anymore, only min/max values are used
  • change: creature auras effects should not be stackable anymore, only min/max values are used
  • change: poisonous plants auras effects should not be stackable anymore, only min/max values are used
  • change: "creatures" to "Venomous Spiders" in "Warmongers" quest description
  • change: darkened secondary hand item while using two handed weapons
  • change: it is now possible to carry two handed weapon while secondary hand has item in it, it stays in secondary hand item slot but it is not used
  • change: 3d model of secondary hand weapon/shield will not be rendered if primary hand has two-handed item in it
  • fix: fixed light crash bug
  • fix: added doors for central dungeon in Sidis Tarea
  • fix: added quest check at these doors so that they cannot be opened without using Crown of Time, Crown of Decision, Crown of Change and Crown of Essence items on the pillars around the dungeon entrance
  • change: Amulet of Time/Decision/Change/Essence items are now changed to Crown of Time/Decision/Change/Essence with corresponding icons
  • change: critical bonus not applied to secondary hand items while carrying two handed weapon in primary hand
  • change: armor, defense, attack, damage, resistance modifiers, ability modifiers not applied to secondary hand items while carrying two handed weapon in primary hand
  • change: attack/defense/damage/armor vs creature type not applied to secondary hand items while carrying two handed weapon in primary hand
  • fix: Cave of Winds smoke/cloud texture added
  • fix: tooltips for the inventory bag names are now displayed correctly

Wave of Darkness now support Steam Controller thanks to the template created by "mUnday"!

Hi all!

Well, we really can't hide smiles from our faces when we saw the thread created by user "mUnday" who announced that Wave of Darkness now supports Steam Controller, all thanks to his incredible effort.

All you have to do is to find the template created by "mUnday" and that's basically it.

Here it is how it works:

  • ABXY are mapped for hotbar 1-4, while holding the left grip ABXY switch to 5-8;
  • Also can toggle through hotbars 1-5 with the right and left shoulder buttons;
  • Right grip is TAB and will target closest enemy;
  • Inventory, skills etc are mapped to the directional pad;
  • Quest log is mapped to right pad click;
  • Double "tap" the right pad for quick save;
  • Start button is ESC and will close windows or go to the Menu;
  • Back button opens the map;
  • Left click is set for ready weapon (definitely going to change it, maybe to taunt - mUnday);
  • Right pad is set for mouse;
  • Right and Left Trigger are left and right mouse click;

Thats it for now! If you have a Steam Controller, check it out and feel free to update and suggest improvements or changes to mUnday in this thread!

Wave of Darkness Patch 1.65

Hi all!

The new patch is out and it brings the following:

  • Added location tags for each teleport on the map;
  • Fixed problem with double teleport icon rendering in maps panel;
  • When the last quest is finished in the Tutorial area of the game, the tooltip near the docks changes to "The tutorial is now over";
  • Hungarian localization updated;

Wave of Darkness Patch 1.60

Hi all!

We have published an another update which is somewhat a smaller patch, but our lead programmer spent a lot of time working on it.

It brings the following:

  • Mouse wheel is now enabled to zoom the map in and out.
  • Fixed an issue with Teleport Stones which rendered blank destinations. (Big thanks to ronald63108 for the report!)
  • Added "You are here" tooltip when the map is opened, so the player's location is now much more visible.
  • Added French and Hungarian translation for the tooltip.

Hi everyone,

In the newest Wave of Darkness patch we have added Hungarian localization. Some texts are still written in English, maybe 6-7 of them. Those are mostly newly updated tutorial texts. They will probably be translated later today or tomorrow.

Wave of Darkness Patch 1.42

We made it easier for player to identify and de-curse items:

Scroll of Veles' Wisdom - identifies all the items, and finds the cursed item, but it doesn't remove the curse from the item;
Scroll of Veles' Glory - identifies only the cursed items and removes the curse;
Scroll of Veles' Peace - identifies only the items cursed by Marowit and removes its curse;
Scroll of Veles' Life - identifies only the items cursed by Flins and removes its curse;
Scroll of Veles' Compassion - identifies only the items cursed by Berstuk and removes its curse;
Scroll of Veles' Faith - identifies only the items cursed by Zirnitra and removes its curse;
Scroll of Veles' Understanding - identifies only the items cursed by Triglav and removes its curse;
Scroll of Veles' Ascension - identifies only the items cursed by Morana and removes its curse.

Also, we saw your complaints regarding the disappearing consumable recipes. This is now fixed, so the recipes do not disappear when you craft usable items, like potions, food, scrolls, etc.

Hi everyone!

Well, after four months of hard work and battles with all kind of murky villains during Early Access, we are proud to announce that Wave of Darkness is getting ready for the full release at 5th of November 2015!

During the Wave of Darkness Early Access, we have been astonished by the amount of good and positive vibrations among the community who wanted to help with great ideas, bug reports and, naturally, constructive criticism.

Majority of your suggestions, bug reports and some criticism resulted in five major patches and several smaller patches which helped Wave of Darkness to become a more stable, more robust, and ultimately a better RPG title. All in all, during Early Access development stage we have applied over 70 game fixes and over 15 new features; some bigger, some smaller.

Now, about that massive new Wave of Darkness update. Here is what you will get:

  • added intro video
  • added bunch of tooltips for character generation panels, character info panel, inventory, spellbook, maps panel, legendary items panel and quest log panel
  • minimum number of inventory slots increased from 14 to 42 (see, we do listen to your suggestions ;-)

  • fixed item generation bug when creating new characters (one where it was possible to get items such as weapons and armor with too high requirements, you were able to de-equip those items but were unable to equip them again)
  • fixed 'Smash and Run' quest description in quest log panel
  • fixed 'Dark Sisters' quest description in quest log panel
  • fixed Lord Zetar script (one block of text was missing due to the bug in the script)
  • fixed voiceover replay bug
  • fixed material tile for danian temples that had incorrect texture (materials\lod\temple\danian_a\danian_temple_cc.dds)
  • fixed material (materials\lod\miscellaneous\grave\dirt_grave.material) with wrong texture
  • fixed material (materials\lod\foliage\replace\cat.material) with missing texture
  • fixed bug in the maps panel where merchants had empty tooltip
  • fixed bug in the maps panel where game sometimes crashed when you ran it on your bosses computer with Windows 10 OS


    Voices of Narr

    Our last big step towards having the complete product is adding voice overs, and the biggest news around this is that the voiceovers are recorded and ready in the new patch! The new big patch on Steam includes voices for over 30 major characters in the game.

    Most of the actors were working on some major game blockbusters and we had to wait a bit.
    We are thankful that they found time for an indie developer during this busiest period.
    We’d like to use this opportunity to present you the great voice actors who "made" WoD characters come to life.

    It is an absolute pleasure to do this work when the community joins hands with the developer in creating a better game.

    Getting released is NOT "that's it folks, we are done here"

    The release for us simply means that we are now declaring Wave of Darkness a complete rounded product. It isn’t perfect, with every patch released our wish list grows even further. As more and more gamers join our community, we are sure that there will be an abundance of great new suggestions (and hopefully a very few bug reports) which will ensure continued post release development for a long and exciting time.

    You will continue to receive updates with the same frequency as during the Early Access development stage, we will continue talking with you on Kickstarter and Steam discussion boards, and we will continue listening to your ideas and suggestions.

    What are the next steps?

    With the full Wave of Darkness release getting closer by the day, we have another big promise to keep; we have to start working on physical rewards for our Kickstarter backers.

    We would also like to expand the Wave of Darkness community as much as possible. As you most probably know, for an indie developer without the marketing budget it is quite challenging to break through to relevant media.
    Most of the gaming web pages so far told us they will wait for the final release as they (usually) do not review titles in Early Access. Also, many gamers tend to avoid Early Access titles, and even if they don’t, our visibility on the Steam is pretty low right now.

    Not only that, but being too long in Early Access can be counterproductive: Some titles on Steam are for "eons" in Early Access, but we don't want that. We have rounded up all the features we want in the game and integrated them.

    We invite you to join our efforts once again, at the most important moment during this final stage, with the best vibe that you can help us create. Each and every new WoD player will contribute to the momentum which will in turn enable us to do amazing things for the game with future updates.

Hi all!

Major things are hapenning for Wave of Darkness again because we have published another exciting patch! Here is what has been changed and what you will get:

  • We have upgraded how skills work. Now you gain additional bonuses when you develop skills to certain level (5/10/15/20). All old skill bonuses still work as before so you can play with your regular saved games. These bonuses are added to all skills except for Gathering skills (only two of them - mining and lumbering).

  • We have fixed several bugs, most noticeable wrong rendering of fog of war in Maps panel (it could be replicated when you set map to be show at 1/3 scree resolution). Maps panel should now display all types of icons at start. You do not have to manually activate them each time you play. Also, display of NPCs and monsters markers in the minimap (top left corner of the screen) is fixed.

  • Bug with text not being correctly displayed in some panels is (hopefully) fixed. Panels in questions were Load Game, Save Game, Shop, Quest Log and Bestiary.

    We have added Nils' Quest #1 - Forest Bane to the game. NPC for this and few next quests is shared so that is also completed. Starting location is being prepared for this. Scripting, rewards and everything else is completed.
