Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened - Remastered Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.>

I was recently most entertained by reviews of the utterly bloody awful Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter, a game actually slightly better than the previously abysmal Crimes & Punishments, as people who’d madly claimed to rate the earlier game suddenly realised what a pile of shite it had all been. But impressively, both represent a huge step forward for the amazingly dreadful series which has been being terrible for over a decade. The Awakened appeared ten years ago.

The character of Sherlock Holmes created by Arthur Conan Doyle has been portrayed in many different ways in the past. Crimes & Punishments brings this iconic and peculiar figure to life, in a stunning and faithful representation: his eccentric personality, his manners and, above all, the many remarkable gifts for which he is famous.

This video follows Sherlock in a murder case involving a sailor, a whale harpoon and various suspects. Please note that while this video may hint at one of the possible conclusions, it is but one of many potential outcomes. Depending on how YOUR investigation progresses, you will be able to accuse different guilty parties from among your list of suspects... and determine their fate: will you absolve them of their crime, or will you impartially enforce justice?

In this new Crimes & Punishments video, we can admire the great work Frogwares studios has carried out on Sherlock Holmes and the cast of characters who feature in the six thrilling investigations in the game. Motion captured animations, meticulously detailed faces, lip-sync, the interplay between actor and cinematic cameras bring all the dialog, interrogation and interaction to life.

Besides his eccentricity, Sherlock showcases in this video his extraordinary detective talents which you will employ and exploit to solve each case: his ability to connect seemingly unrelated clues to deduce facts, his talent for guessing a person’s life simply by looking at them, his skill to imagine and reconstruct a past event by observing the key details of a crime scene.... Last but not least, we discover the new in-game “deduction board”, which is none other than the very brain of Sherlock Holmes! Here, you will connect all the clues and information you have gathered and piece them together to establish facts, determine suspects and eventually find out who the guilty parties might be.

Crimes & Punishments will be released on PlayStation®4, PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and PC in Q2 2014.

Crimes & Punishments, the latest Sherlock Holmes investigation game scheduled for release on PC, Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4 in Q2 2014, can now reveal its new trailer, "Justice and Morality", and will be updating the Devblog!

This new video shows Sherlock and Watson puzzling over the scene of the crime: Sherlock may think he has identified the guilty party, but he has yet to decide if handing them over to Scotland Yard is the right thing to do…

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="/www.youtube.com/embed/SktpvvZMO5E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The video demonstrates the fantastic freedom of action in Crimes & Punishments: not only can you conduct your investigation in the way you think fit as you pursue various lines of enquiry, but you will also have to make real moral choices once you’ve solved the case. Indeed, the clues you uncover and the avenue you wish to pursue - or not - in each of the 7 cases in the game will point to 10 suspects in a single case.
Your logical deduction alone will enable you to determine who, in your opinion, the true culprit is. But remember: you could put an innocent victim behind bars if you overlook certain clues or trails! Once you establish the perpetrator of the deed, you must then bear the responsibility of deciding what to do with this information... will you carry out the letter of the law, or will you be guided by your moral compass? Carefully consider the consequences of your actions, because every choice you make will have repercussions later in the game!

Don’t forget too that Crimes & Punishments has its own Devblog which is regularly updated by the various Frogwares teams with all the relevant, varied and fascinating info on the game development. Today’s post describes the different puzzles, brain-teasers and other specific situations in Crimes & Punishments that will force Sherlock to draw upon his many talents!

Crimes & Punishments will be released on PC, Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4 in Q2 2014.
