The most valuable part of this sword is not the black blade made of hard Gottlung steel or the tongues of golden flame, but the silver-coated guard depicting a wrathful smith-god with a smoldering visage. This adornment is much more ancient than the sword itself. The inscription on the brand says 'He who from the verge of oblivion hales.'
