Gravity Circuit is a Mega-Man-X-style game that does enough to set itself apart, thanks to its focus on melee combat, equippable perks and abilities, and a story that balances humor and drama.

What strikes me is how almost every game in this thing is a complete thought. This isn't 50 minigames. It's easy to get stuck on a new favorite for hours, and there are multiple games like that.

It's so simple you wouldn't think it'd be much fun, but it knows how to elevate that concept into something that constantly hooks you into doing 'one more run' -- even if it's an hour past bedtime.

Nightdive's remaster elevates Q2 from being a dated black sheep to something great. Not only does it make Q2's best qualities shine brighter, but it helps you appreciate it in new, different ways, too

If Doom Eternal was too different and weird for your tastes, Prodeus is sure to cure what ails you. The Retro Shooter equivalent of comfort food. Wet, sloppy, messy comfort food.

Shredder's Revenge adds enough combat complexity that it feels great cutting your way through endless waves of Foot Soldier goons. Could use a little more nuance, but it's low-friction fun.

iD Software tried to reinvent the wheel here. What you get is one of the fastest, most complex shooters ever, to a fault. Eternal has lots of ideas & VERY blunt solutions. Not elegant; sometimes fun.

The kind of game only an indie developer could get away with making, and I mean that as a positive. This is a loving, well-playing tribute to classic survival horror that does not overstay its welcome

The first Y-L was a dusty cobweb of a game. Impossible Lair, however, is so significantly better I hardly believe it's from the same developer. Easily stands next to Retro's Donkey Kong Country games.

It would be a disservice to call this 'just a throwback shooter.' The melee-weapons-but-they're-guns mechanic leads to a lot of fun and fresh action, and the artwork is gorgeous. This game rules.
