I'm not tied to a specific genre, so you probably have to read my argumentation why I recommend a specific game. Some of them are also a bit old and/or controversial, but I want to list some games you probably don't know. Some of those games got a lot better due to some patches. In addition you'll find some well known games I really like.

“Reminds me a lot of Terraria (good game), but in a Scifi setting. It solves a few things, I personally "disliked" about it (e.g. now you have planets & can easily travel, where you want quite early).”
