Before Gmod, modding Half Life 2 was similarly huge. Required by some popular mods. ALWAYS CHECK REQUIREMENTS!

As it stands, most mods revolve around new maps. If you like this game´s gameplay, modding will extend it´s lifespan.

While modding wise, it is a little bit more limited, it still had a very strong modding scene. Finding the good mods makes for a great nostalgic time.

While it strongly misbehaves in Windows 7 on up, getting it to work means you have access to a plethora of strong mods. `Katana` is VERY recommended!

Arguably the best installment of the series, this game too has the same taste of mods that adjust the game both slightly in gameplay and visually.

"Gentlemen Of The Row" is generally considered the best mod for this game, but other good ones can be found.
