Essentially a parallel universe version of System Shock 2 trading cyberpunk for steampunk & simplifying some mechanics. It's not quite SS2, but it's still a wonderful and unforgettable game.

Doesn't quite have the same impact as its predecessor in terms of world design and narrative, but dramatically improves upon its gameplay. A rock-solid sequel overall.

Bears no connection to its namesake; a more fitting title would've been "Neuroshock". A brilliant spiritual successor to System Shock with novel mechanics and a bangin' Mick Gordon OST. A must-play!

Everything a great sequel should be, setting itself apart with two playable characters - both of which allow diverse playstyles - and stellar level design (Clockwork Mansion goes hard). Great!

Spicing up the classic Thief formula with fun supernatural abilities, Dishonored cemented Arkane as the modern torchbearers for the immersive sim subgenre. A standout title for sure.

A worthy sequel featuring excellent stealth, hacking and exploration. The Director's Cut helps to mitigate some of the points where it faltered the hardest, such as the boss fights.

It doesn't get any more iconic than Deus Ex. It put immersive sims on the map and remains one of the finest examples of the genre, and indeed one of the best PC games of all time.

A phenomenal re-imagining of the 1994 classic which manages to stay utterly faithful to the core gameplay and identity while totally modernizing the controls and visuals. An absolute slam dunk.

This bland & linear FPS strips out absolutely everything the Shock series is defined by. RPG mechanics? Gone. A story with something meaningful to say? Forget about it. 1999 Mode? Bullet sponge mode.
