It ain't an Elder Scrolls style game, but it's still a much more competent, beautiful RPG than basically anyone but Larian puts out these days, comparable maybe to a slightly smaller Mass Effect 2.

A surprisingly fun deckbuilder-roguelike-inventory management game. Say that three times fast. It's certainly not difficult, deep, or complex, but it's a nice enough time-waster. Pretty buggy, though.

JA3 may not live up to some people's expectations from JA2, but it stands as a great, engrossing tactical game in the vein of X-Com, XCOM, and XCOM 2. It's big, it's complex, and it's fun.

Nowhere Prophet is an immaculate deckbuilder that I can't bring myself to play because it almost forces you to use humanized characters as ablative armor, and that's brutal.

Abiotic Factor is definitely a little rough, but it's such a good time that it's difficult to say if those rough patches are intentional or not. There's such a variety of delightful ideas on display.

Helldivers 2 could learn a thing or two from Outwars. There's nothing else out there quite like it.

I don't hate it, but Chants of Sennaar sits squarely in the Monument Valley valley of "Puzzle games that loads of people love that I think are a bit too tedious and simple." Get Heavens Vault instead.

While it's obvious this game is a labor of love, with nice visuals, good performance, and tons of attention to Tolkien's work... the core mechanics just aren't quite engaging enough to drive it all.

I hesitate to recommend this because it's just... fine. As a time-waster, it's totally adequate. There's no special hooks or deep strategy, and sometimes that's what I want.

Dome Keeper takes the satisfying exploration loop of SteamWorld Dig and makes it run-based with simple but engaging wave-defense combat. The random levels can be punishingly unfair, but still fun.
