Why didn't anyone create a Castlevania-style sooner?! Use obstacles to strategically slow down or speed up your character while whipping candles. Uses a single button. Simple, but fun!

Think of Dead Cells as an action platformer take on The Binding of Isaac, with plenty of Metroidvania elements sprinkled in for good measure. Great game if you want to kill an hour or so.

If you want some classic Castlevania-style action, then Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is about as close as you can get to the real thing. Think of it as Dracula's Curse with a bit more flexibility.

Chronicles of Teddy feels a lot like Zelda II in terms of character movement. Explore varied locales to confront an evil king who stole your teddy bear. Cute premise, stunning (yet simple) graphics.

Shantae started on Game Boy Color and received two DS installments, both available on Steam. This new installment finally gives Shantae the HD treatment while preserving the series' solid game play.

Want more Shantae action? This game offers more of the same, but changes the formula up a bit by having you team up with Risky and using some of her items as power-up. Also, more great music.

If you love whipping enemies (albeit with your hair), then you'll enjoy the Shantae games. You'll explore plenty of different areas while gaining new abilities, all the while listening to great music.

A lot of people describe this as a 2D Dark Souls, and I can see why. I can see this appealing to fans of classic Castlevania games for its difficulty, but it still has a lot of ground to explore.

Despite its low-res art style, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight still looks fantastic. Smooth animation compliments the simple controls and the unique feel of the combat. Pleasant music, too.

You start with a whip, and you fight bats AND skeletons within ten minutes of starting the game. How can you NOT like this as a Castlevania fan? You'll also explore a lot of varied areas.
