“The recent Nightmare Invasion of our world was just the prelude to something far worse. It wasn’t just random attacks by horrific monsters, but calculated strikes intended to cause terror in us. What’s worse, they were harvesting that fear for some dark purpose. I have traced it to its source; we need to return to the Qliphothic Realm.” -Witchcraft, addressing the Mage Council

The new Shadow of Destruction Content Update is now live!

Shadow of Destruction brings us the Qliphothic Warzone, a new epic end-game zone set in an eerie otherworld where forces of evil plot the downfall of all creation. Content is designed for veteran level 40 players in teams of 2+ players, 6+ players and 20 players!

Features:
  • 10 New Directed Storyline Missions leading you into and through the Qliphothic Warzone!
  • 15 New Daily Repeatable Quests allowing you to earn Champions Recognition and Hermes Requisitions!
  • 4 New Open Missions where you are challenged by the deadly Portal Guardian, the alien Slug, the deadly speedster Oubliette, and the dreaded Eidolon of Destruction!
  • New Rewards, including costume pieces, gear, devices, and action figures!
To begin your adventure, talk with UNTIL Liason Bradley at Renaissance Center in Millennium City and take the mission “Hermes Revisited”. This will lead you to UNTIL HQ to speak with Major Violette Boudreau with the mission “Realm of Destruction”. From there it will lead you into the Qliphothic Warzone!

One of the main reasons I got into RPGs back in the day was that if you bought one, you were getting a lot of game for your money. That was important when there was only one birthday and one Christmas a year, and not much chance that some relative might pop their clogs in sync with Ultima VI coming out. Years later I no longer need the Grim Reaper’s help to fill my collection, and other genres have done their best to replace scouring maps for objectives with, y’know, game>, but there’s still few that can match it in terms of raw Stuff. It takes a lot of content to fill an RPG.

This week then, I’m turning the spotlight on a few small bits and pieces from various games that I think back on fondly. Not entire games. Just a few ideas and moments from them that stuck with me, whether I liked the actual game they were in at all. Add yours in the comments, yadda yadda, you know the drill. Also, I thought I’d try and pick a few things that aren’t brought up that often, hence the lack of, say, Heather Poe from Vampire: Bloodlines or any of The Witcher III’s awesome stuff. Got that? Cool.

Note: you can browse through the list using the arrows alongside the image at the top of the page, or using the left and right arrows on your very own keyboard.

In this era of a hundred comic book movies a year plus spin-off shows, it’s getting harder and harder to remember that not so long ago trying to take a superhero off the printed page and onto some kind of screen was basically a recipe for failure, mockery, and a way of flying a promising creative career into a great big rock. Hell, even now most superheroes without the word ‘Bat’ in their name are still waiting for someone to even attempt a game, never mind make a good one. For every Batman on NES or Arkham Asylum, there’s an Aquaman or Superman on Nintendo 64.

On PC, it’s always been particularly weird. Especially when you look at which companies have tried and failed over the years to bring us the ultimate superhero RPG. Is there anything out there that comes close? Ignoring Freedom Force, since that’s not an RPG? Well, some! Enough not to have to hold out for a hero, at least.

Greetings Champions! It's time to ditch those tights for something more nefarious. Teleios has perfected a method of duplicating super-villain powers bringing waves of villains into Millenium City. In Champions Online: Supervillain Onslaught, players will take part in a brand-new in-game event where heroes become villains and battle against champions around Millennium City in open-world PvP!

Play as classic Champions Online villains like Gravitar, Grond and Medusa. Which villain do you want to play as?

Greetings, Champions!

My name is Randy Mosiondz, a Senior Game Designer at Cryptic Studios. I have some exciting news: Champions Online is returning to its original development studio in Los Gatos, California, and I’ll be heading up the game design team!

I’d like to thank the team at Cryptic North for their excellent work on Champions while it was in our Seattle office, especially Tom Atkinson-Edwards, Russell Williams, and Raymond Wood. They’ve added some memorable moments to the game, including the Fatal Err0r and Steel Crusade story arcs. They’ll still be helping us out in part with planning of new content.

I’m bringing to the development team over 10 years of development experience at Cryptic Studios. I was a Mission Designer on City of Heroes, the original Lead Designer of Champions Online at launch, and most recently Content Lead and Loremaster of the popular Neverwinter game (now available on both PC and Xbox One!)

I and the other developers here at Cryptic Studios are looking forward to creating great new things. We’ve already started work on some new costumes including the Variable Robot set and Steel Arachnid set from the earlier fan-submitted costume contest, and planning new content updates.

Stay tuned for more details! As we continue development on Champions, we’ll be sure to let you know what’s going on.
