This patch addresses the following:

  • Refined gameplay, balance, and cover on map OtoriShimi
  • Fixes for server crash hacks/exploits
  • Fixes for hit detection hacks/exploits
  • When players are vote kicked from a server they are now session banned and cannot return immediately
  • Added a new setting to allow server admins to tune the minimum kick votes required to kick a player from the server. This can be found here in ROGame.ini:

  • Added a setting in ROGame.ini to allow server admins to prevent users that have a VAC ban in any game from being able to join their server. This is defaulted to off. The settings can be found here:
To enable this setting set KickForVACBan=false. If KickForVACBanNum=0 then players with any VAC bans at all will be kicked from the server. If KickForVACBanNum is set to 2 or greater than that will be the number of VAC bans the user can have in any game before being kicked. The recommended setting to ensure no VAC banned users can join your server is:

There is additional unlisted hack/exploit prevention in this update, but due to the nature of hacking we will not be going into detail on those items. If you encounter any unusual issues with this update please report it on the RO2 support forums here:

For those of you who have joined us via the RO 2 (Free forever promotion from last Wednesday, the 23rd) or just from the Rising Storm free weekend (which ended last night), thanks!

A few notes (as we have noticed confusion on the subject):

1) If you got Red Orchestra 2 for Free, you still have full access to it (keep it forever). However the Rising Storm content (Pacific theater, Japanese vs United States) you will only have limited access to until you purchase Rising Storm (it is still on sale for another hour).

2) For those who picked up Rising Storm for the free weekend, you missed the promotion period for RO 2 for Free, and you will need to pick up Rising Storm to continue playing the game (once again still on sale for another hour). Rising Storm comes with the full RS and RO 2 multiplayer environment.

And a general note:

The game you want to install is the "Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 Multiplayer" application. The two beta applications are used to test future updates with the community.

We hope everybody had a great weekend! (And don't forget to grab an extra copy or 2 of RS to give to your friends!)

We have had several reports in that players are falling into the world when the approach trenches on select servers (not all servers). We are digging into it now to find out what is happening.

Rising Storm is available to play for free (with full unlocks for RO 2 owners) until Sunday at 1 PM PDT. The game is also 75% off during this time period!

After the free weekend ends RO 2 only owners will not have access to the Rising Storm roles and unlocks again (but their progression should remain) until they purchase it!

Happy gaming this weekend and see you on the battlefield!

Red Orchestra 2

Steam has a peculiar history with the word "free", thanks to its regular Free Weekends. Through them, you can get a free trial of the entirety of a game across a limited two-day period. Red Orchestra 2 will soon have one of these weekends, and an overall discount to go along with it. Even freer, though, is a deal that will go live for the multiplayer shooter later today. For a 24-hour period, you'll be able to download (and keep) the game forever, for free.

"Yes, Free!" confirms the enthusiastic Jared Creasy, Tripwire's community manager. "By navigating to and downloading the game tomorrow after the promotion starts and before it ends (the promotion will last 24 hours), the game will be free to keep forever!"

It's not entirely clear when the deal will go live, but I suspect it'll be at the start of the new Steam-day around 10am PDT, or 6pm BST.

While it is a great deal, it's worth remembering that through Red Orchestra 2 you only get limited "rifle only" access to the Pacific-set follow up, Rising Storm. Owners of Rising Storm which recently updated with a free Game of the Year edition get full access to RO2's multiplayer.

Following this, we will be rolling into a free weekend for Rising Storm (free for a limited time) as well as a discount! If you've been trying to convince a friend to play Red Orchestra 2 with you, there will be no better time than tomorrow!
