Most current sports were designed around what a couple of blokes could get up to in a field with a ball and, optionally, a few bits of wood. But what about futuresports, for the future when humanity is all glimmering cyberpeople frolicking amongst the stars and definitely not e.g. lost and desperate people fighting over scraps in a world we willingly tore apart? In the future we won’t think twice about building ballgame rules around things like gravity cannons and genetically-engineered plants.

That’s the stuff Epigenesis is dabbling in, a first-person futuresport which hit v1.0 and came out of Early Access on Friday. I bet Futuresports will do Early Access and everything too.

Epigenesis is Now Available on Steam!

Epigenesis is an online multiplayer sports/FPS game in which two sides are locked in a never-ending fight for world domination by playing ball.

In this non-lethal ballgame of the future, players leap across platforms suspended high up in the air trying to get a ball located in the middle of the arena and score goals against their opponents. Each player carries a gravity cannon capable of pushing enemies (and friends) down from the heights of the arena.

When a player scores, he receives a genetically modified super-seed and gets the opportunity to plant it onto a platform to capture it. To win the game you must capture towers and construct a node system from your goal post all the way to your opponents' goal post. If this hasn't happened by the time that the clock reaches zero, the team with the most scores win!

Teamwork, tactics and precision is key to win eternal glory in a game of Epigenesis!

So today we are releasing the 1.0 patch and leaving Early Access. Down under are the patch notes which includes the biggest changes in this patch. Furthermore, if you start up the game during this launch weekend you will get the exclusive Trench Insignia skin for both Omani and Argos. Access the Skin Manager from the Main Menu and use it to set which skin to use for each plant, as well as your character’s hat.


Changes:

  • Polished texts on HUD, including but not limited to: End game stats, Score board, Team names and score numbers, respawn text and Main Menu texts.
  • Added more animation to the Mission Popup.
  • Changed the sound played when throwing a ball.
  • Increased acceleration gliding, makes you able to fly further.
  • Changed the sound for hitconfirm.
  • Added 2560x1440 resolution.
  • Added wind sound when moving fast.
  • Added and tweaked ambience in several maps.
  • Updated Splash Screen with logos.


Bug fixes:

  • Turret now has correct animations in singeplayer.
  • Characters now has correct default animations.
  • Now giving correct number of passive buffs when capturing platforms with more than 2 connections.
  • Jumping in mortar goo no longer spawns particles that doesn’t disappear.
  • Smokescreen animation fix, no longer freezes after being planted for the first time.
  • Fixed the bug where the ramp would slow you down instead of speeding you up.
  • Fixed a bug where the plant indicators would freeze on screen if the player died with a seed.
  • Chat window now receives focus properly each time it is opened.
  • Minimap should now be properly displayed at all times.
  • Fixed several bugs with the Mission System.
  • Credits now rolls as usual.

Greetings fierce warriors!

Hope you all are having a great summer! We are only a few days from launch and today we put out an updated containing some juicy stuff, including in-game missions! Missions will give you points that you can spend in the in-game store that will soon be released!

Patch 0.99


General:

  • Added sound for when the ball hits the goalpost. Just so you can hear yourself fail
  • Added “Plant Here” icons on HUD, active when carrying a seed
  • Added an indicator on the HUD that shows which weapon the player is carrying
  • New Team Select Screen implemented
  • Added Missions! These are renewed each day and give you Mission Points which will be spendable in the in-game store (released at launch).


Removed:

  • Join random team button


Changes:

  • Added a particle for when a plant is activated
  • Added a particle for when a plant is deactivated
  • Updated Omanis running and idle animations
  • Changed graphics and placement of the Pickup icons on the HUD


Bug fixes:

  • Foliage not spawning in singleplayer has been fixed

Today, we are finally announcing the launch date: Epigenesis will be available in full on the 1st of August this year!

We will also be hosting a release tournament with awesome Cooler Master as sponsors! Prizes will be given from Cooler Master’s catalogue of gaming gear such as mice, headsets and keyboards. More info will be released soon together with info on how to sign up for the tournament!

The latest update of Epigenesis includes a new queueing system with one-button matchmaking, giving players an easier way to find and join matches. We hope that this will make it easier for players who want to get in quick for a few matches! Three new maps are also now available in the recently added single player mode: GranArena, MixedArena, and LegacyArena.

We are currently working on creating an in-game store for cosmetic items and daily missions! Currency will not be buy-able with real life money, but must be earned from completing missions in-game. We hope that this will attract players to spend more time in-game while having a clear goal to aim for.

You can now find official tutorials on how to play Epigenesis on our youtube channel! We will be releasing more tutorials as we approach launch.

Heyooo! Time for an update!

Here are the changes made in this last patch. We've adressed some balance issues but also polished some parts of the game. If you have any sort of feedback grab us in-game or on the forums!


Patch 0.9


General:

  • Ball indicator on the HUD; tracks the ball and changes color depending on which team is carrying it
  • Added info in pre-game about the loadouts the player has customized
  • Added the ability to change the jump mechanic between Charge and Instant! In the loadouts, players can choose the standard Charge jump or an Instant jump which sends the player to a height equal to a Charge at level 2
  • Speedlines when going really fast!
  • Camera animations is now implemented, triggers when certain events occur such as jumping etc. You will be able to disable this in a later patch


Changes:

  • Bots easy mode is now easy
  • Players gain extra Acceleration while falling allowing a small speed increase
  • Minimap now has colored lines showing what platforms are linked
  • Melee is now bound to rightclick by default (check keybindings)
  • Methylation is now bound to ‘F’ by default (check keybindings)


Levels:

  • GranArena is now reworked to work better with 3v3 games
  • MixedArena now has more scenery
  • You can no longer get out of bounds on ArgosArena
  • Blastradius on LegacyArena is now fixed


Balance Changes:

  • Ramp now increase speed by 400, down from 1000
  • Player groundspeed is now 1860 by default, up from 1560
  • Player airspeed is now 1860 by default, up from 1560
  • Acceleration buff now gives 400, up from 300
  • Aircontrol buff now gives 0.04, down from 0.06
  • Speed buff now gives 50, down from 125
  • Jump buff now gives 125-75(max-min), down from 150-100
  • Railmode now has a max power of 2500, up from 2000
  • Railmode now has a min power of 750, up from 600
  • Poff shot now does 70% in outer radius of splash, up from 60%
  • Plants are now automatically active when planted
  • Turret shots no longer have pulling explosions


Bug fixes:

  • Passive buff system is reworked and functions
  • Chat commands no longer run on all clients at the same time
