Wanting to fix some large issues and small issues that cropped up in a previous hotfix we went ahead and tossed in proper update with another coming out later this week.

We've got some major plans some of which we share -Here- so check that out!

Contagion - Update April 22nd


  • Fixed player positioning when grappling.
  • Fixed zombies walking into walls forever.
  • Fixed zombies getting stuck in tight quarters and standing up rather than crouching and moving through.
  • Fixed zombies ability to attack when crouched properly to get through vents and windows easier.
  • Fixed zombies wandering code, optimised heavily their idle logic.
  • Added Add-ons menu to Extras to allow loading of user generated content.
  • Fixed unbreakable doors in Barlowe Extraction for activated locations (specifically City Surplus & Gas Station).
  • Fixed zombies spawning inside locked buildings on Barlowe.
  • Fixed character auto-voice commands that were missing in public build.
  • Added Contagion SDK to the Steam/SteamApps/Common/Contagion/Bin folder.
  • Fixed pathing issues on Barlowe Extraction and Hunted.
  • Added new zombie sounds for AI and player zombies.
  • Added additional zombie sound types for male, female and riot.
  • Added ability to load map-based bank files so custom maps can load custom sounds.
  • Fixed voice command system so characters interact better and taunt in moderation.
  • Allowed addons and official maps to read external language text based on the map file name.
  • Fixed Barlowe Square Escape broken pathway at start of round.


Remember these fixes may still be updating on our servers so if you receive a **** differs error it just means the server is not yet updated. The update is still going out to servers.

Actually it was released on Sunday as planned but one of our marketing campaign affiliates used us to host the image on their site for a site takeover and we nearly lost hosting. Upgraded and sorted now!



We've updated your Contagion with our Official Contagion SDK which can be found in your Steam\Common\Contagion\bin\ (or ContagionBeta if you bought before Full Release) folder as it's directly linked to our Engine.

For those familiar with modding will find it rather intuitive but there is more to learn even for veterans if you're looking to create a proper Contagion Map but that will either come with time or strong will and dedication.

We are excited to see what you guys roll out and what becomes popular. We can only hope that some of you try to achieve more than a simple port or something rushed but it available to do just that if you wish.

We hope to provide detail guides both in written and video format but for now there are some great mapping tutorials on Interlopers and/or TWHL to get you started.

Here's your chance!


  • We'll be keeping an eye out and if a map catches our eyes there may be something in it for you!
  • Have fun but try to be tasteful?
  • So many users are salivating over new content. Will you put actual time and effort in or just attempt to make another
  • Ports are to be expected but do the original creators a favor since it was their hardwork and request permission as well as providing credit where it's due. The same goes for borrowed assets.
  • Make us look bad if you can! We love great minds.

  • You can praise or critique but we expect you to do more than that. Be constructive or don't be surprised if your "Awesome" one word post or "Is lame" one liner is deleted.
  • Your own guides and knowledge to help others. We're a community :)

Here is our latest hotfix that should if all goes as planned resolve the existing bugs troubling a number of you. We will keep an eye out and do our best to jump on anything that may pop up as we have since before "Early Release" heh. Thank you for your patience and we hope you didn't have to wait too long. A few more updates added that should please some as well!

Contagion - Hotfix 2014-04-17


  • Fixed shadow glitching to low-quality when sprinting or zombie.
  • Added -tickrate back to code so servers can custom-set 66 tickrate servers.
  • Added ability to force public IP display in listen servers.
  • Adjusted memory loading method for Sounds in attempt to fix missing sounds ingame.
  • Getting infected and turning into a zombie now keeps the same character model but zombie version.
  • Fixed zombies not spawning after first round of Extraction on Barlowe.
  • Fixed glitch where you can get infected twice, cancelling the first infection timer.

  • Fixed infection glitch spawning you in offset new places.
  • Fixed double-sounds from survivors when melee attacking.


  • Remember these fixes may still be updating on our servers so if you receive a **** differs error it just means the server is not yet updated. The update is still going out to servers.

    Being in Japan for 11 years I just found out Sunday is Easter......... I forgot :(
    That said we're still pushing to release our Contagion SDK update this Sunday! Wish someone had said something sooner :( heh.

    (Edit: Re-posted as we've resolved the T-Pose issue. Some servers may still have the issue so please report in "Bug Reports" discussion so we can fix ASAP. We need to know what server name and what issues you run into if you can help us help you! Thanks)

Our latest batch update of 500 servers seems to have messed with the male zombies making them T-Pose (can't attack and block paths).

The Good News

This means the patch is fine! All other servers that aren't ours that are updated work as expected.

The Bad News

We have to let the original update run it's course through all 500 servers meaning I'll have tow ait a few hours to begin fixing the issue 1 server at a time which I've managed to already fix NY Server #30 (they always start in that area).

I will make sure to stay awake long enough to fix all 500 servers once the update completes. Please be patient with us :) It's better than waiting till the new day starts :)

With the Full Release of Contagion things have been hectic but we've been listening while focusing on our work and today a number of fixes were put out to resolve issues we caught in passing. We will of course be keeping our eyes and ears open as we push out a patch that includes the Contagion SDK later this week on Sunday! Here is the changelog that went out today-

Contagion - Hotfix 2014-04-15


  • Fixed sound memory allocation error causing Runtime error for some users.
  • Fixed Invite To Game and Join Game elements through Steam.
  • Added Hostname and Password settings on the Advanced Server Settings.
  • Added the ability to disable hearing character voices to the multiplayer menu.
  • Optimised sounds in the game to improve sound loading times.
  • Disabled certian difficulty commands that could be used to cheat to get Achievements.
  • Fixed ingame options menu showing up behind the ingame main menu.
  • Fixed strange blue colour on survivors' eyes.
  • Fixed AI survivors climbing into the air.


Remember these fixes may still be updating on our servers so if you receive a **** differs error it just means the server is not yet updated.

Contagion is Now Available on Steam!
Contagion isn't your average Zombie Shooter but instead takes a more realistic and different approach to the popular genre with unique characters, environments, weapons, items, and a built in system that makes every round completely unpredictable with resources, objectives, and paths ever changing.

We had our Full Release on Friday and are still waiting for Valve to fix the listing issue. But with full release we ran into issues that weren't present through testing and many users with low end rigs and those who use to play even below supported min system requirements were dealing with crashes.

We released a hotfix with major optimization tweaks that should have resolved all/most of those issues. We will continue to optimize and improve the quality of the latest content (yes including characters which is already being worked on) and some features that are acting up (voice volume). We did more than that with todays update so below is the changelog-

Contagion :: 2014-04-13 Update/Hotfix


  • Heavily optimised game resources by almost half when settings are lowered
  • Fixed players standing on ladders stopping zombies from climbing up
  • Fixed and added back IED weapon
  • Fixed zombie spawns on Barlowe servers causing MAX EDICTS crash
  • Removed lots of unnecessary resources from the game
  • Disabled tossing objective items out of the loading bay
  • Fixed getting stuck in the overturned train in Pioneer
  • Added security cameras to Barlowe escape
  • Fixed cameras in RPD to show correctly for all players
  • Fixed lighting in Subway on Barlowe Escape
  • Fixed Singleplayer/LAN servers having default passwords
  • Fixed AI zombies getting stuck in RPD vent
  • Fixed AI zombies standing up and getting stuck when in areas that require crouching
  • Game now reads the update text on a second thread to remove the delay that sometimes occurs.
  • Fixed dropped weapons colliding with invisible barricade positions
  • Adjusted loading-screen to recieve additional messages to help keep up with changing levels
  • AI survivors now have the ability to climb ladders, small props and fences instead of getting stuck
  • AI survivors also now have the ability to get un-stuck much easier and build better paths to follow survivors
  • Fixed being able to spawn outside the map on Barlowe
  • Many navmesh fixes for various maps
  • Fixed indoor rain FX on Barlowe




We are listening and will continue to improve, add, and optimize. Yes we're also working on the SDK for a release here very soon, also working on Linux and Mac and hope to announce their release dates shortly.

We're very happy to share with you our Official Contagion Source Filmmaker Release Trailer! This is the first game to bridge the gap between Non-Valve games and SFM. Having triumphed here we're far better prepared for our Free DLC Bundle Release Video later this year! We hope you enjoy-



There are some obvious issues that have to do with strict deadlines the differences between our Game Rigs and those Valve uses for their imports but we're quite impressed with FXBooth and their work as well as my good friend Ed Harrison (NeoTokyo) who did the music!

After 5 hours of waiting on Valve to flip the switch and release our game at full price ($19.99) as Full Release on the Store's front page we felt we could wait no longer and decided to release on the date we announced repeatedly! TODAY (Yesterday for some as it's now 10am and I look forward to bed as does the rest of the team)!

While it states we're currently early access we are no longer that. Yes there are bugs and hotfixes we're already planning to release immediately (after sleep... still human) like the IED which somehow got bugged but is too awesome to leave out, the design and so very much of our work is out there now! We don't mind the pricing, we just want you guys to have what was promised and we will be at it every day till you have it.

We will be releasing the Contagion SDK if all goes this Sunday (again, so long as nothing goes wrong) as well as other updates. This does not mean we won't be hotfixing any issues you guys come across so post bugs in our Bug Reports discussions so we can do just that!

We really hope you like the changes, and are excited for the future updates like the 1000+ Mocap animations we've been preparing since we recorded them, Linux & Mac platforms (binaries for servers to come when that comes out. No date yet but we're nearing a point where we can announce that) some other big surprises as well. I apologize for the rambling but we've been up days and so very tired. Know that we won't let you down and will enjoy the hard work everyone put into this major release.
