Turn based combat in post apocalyptic world, Fallout 2 is one of the old must play classics even today. It has aged finely!

While not a role-playing game in classic sense, System Shock 2 is insanely atmospheric game with interesting story and... a character like none other.

Witcher 2 is a great story turned in to a great and beautiful game. Witcher 1 mechanics are really bad though, Witcher 2 shines in it's every aspect.

It is hard to choose between Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, but I feel like the more harsh and unforgiving Morrowind is the Masterpiece of Bethesda.

The best non-Star Wars Star Wars story set in the dark past. Brilliant story telling and characters. Step in to the dark side or stay in light, pansy.

Baldur's Gate, the classic style rpg adventure from the past. Enhanced edition works on modern machines.

I wouldn't recommend the game for it's story, but for it's value as a true Diablo competitor. Free and brilliantly designed hack-n-slash.

While not a stat-based role-playing game, Papers, Please is so massively immersive and emotional experience that it's like you are living in Arstotzka..

A dungeon master like game. A bit more overworld than underworld kind of crawler, but very interesting as a game. Not as polished as Legend of Grimrock.

While FTL isn't fully recognized a role-playing game, as roguelike inspired game it has similar elements to it. Also... you are the space ship captain!
