My recommendations are likely to be in the vein of strategy, simulation, roguelike, builder/management, and some puzzle games but they will always be games that I have played and enjoyed.

It is "more Civ" but with a sci-fi lens instead of history. You liked Civilization V? This is an easy buy, the closest you will get to Alpha Centauri II

Very simple gameplay that is amazingly compelling and relaxing. Get it cheap as it is about 3 hours.

Retro and embraces it wholly. Turn-based combat, first person perspective and an aesthetic that works inside the theme. Reminds me of the old SSI days.

Gameplay is a bit like balancing plates, not too fast, not too slow or the whole thing falls over, but it is relaxing and fun when your are thriving.

Transform your favourite tracks into literal tracks and try to top your friend's scores. Addictive, fun, and often cheap.

The damage/physics model for all the structures in the game will distract you to no end as you level EVERYTHING.

A bowling game combined with defense and Monty Python and it somehow works.

There really is nothing else like this game. Compelling and one-more-turn-ish, you build a story of a lineage from the Stone Age to the Classical era.
