🔶 Some minor tweaks to certain UI appearances
🔶 Adjusted some family secret rewards (further balancing will happen in the future)
❌ Fix for creeping vines crash in combat if the hag dies before it reaches the player the first time it is used
❌ Fix for crash with certain patient ailments in certain circumstances
❌ Fix for fishing rod sometimes not being obtainable after the end of summer
❌ Fix for certain mails appearing automatically in archive. This retroactively fixes existing saves with this problem
❌ Some fixes around animals not behaving as expected
❌ Fix for various UI screens having the mouse highlight appear while the gamepad is in use
❌ Adjusted secrets in chat system to exhaust all potential info before falling back to lines stating there is no more info to find (at least right now!)
❌ Toggling follow for animals no longer raises the relationship opinion
❌ Fae shop owners go straight into selling when interacted with
❌ Fix for debug message on entering the wrong combination for a family secret box
❌ Prevent exclamations appearing on wanderers

Greetings Seedings!

As we look out of the castle window we spy a disturbance in the twisted forests yonder.
Grabbing our telescopes, we spy dark dealings afoot.
Looks like it is time to open up the castle armoury and send cartloads of sharp, pointy weaponry off into the village, where our lovely community of villagers can arm themselves and go sort out the bother, because we are just far too scared.
Why do you think we work in a castle?!

And thus, we welcome you to ‘Hag & Slash: The Combat Update.


OVERVIEW
Simplewood is the first of 3 increasingly tricksy places to explore and test your skills against the first set of wonderful denizens we have cooked up for you in our development cauldron.
Within the glades you will find danger, but also some respite and intrigue...a sample of what is to come as we build out the 'fungeons', as we don’t call them.
Within this fabulous update you will also find new Reputation Perks for all your shops, and a lovely little new level to explore, with a very helpful new Master residing within, plus a bunch of fixes and other little bits & bobs.
So get your backpack dusted off, wear reinforced underwear, and prepare for a bit of the old Hag & Slash!




SIMPLEWOOD
To experience what combat has to offer, enter the depths of Simplewood, the easiest of our dark forests. You will find Simplewood at the top centre of Rivermoor. You should bump into Jogon, who will teach you the way of the blade.
However, if you do not keep your wits about you, then you can be something’s dinner before you can say “Ouch!”
Within each ‘dungeon’ you can elect to go right and stay at the same difficulty, or head deeper in, increasing the difficulty but opening up much more potential for tasty rewards!




LOADOUT
Prepare thyself!
Literally. Equip any weapons (up to 2 swords, madam), pack a good meal and stuff up to 10 combat items into your pack.
You can also take in 1 charm and 1 ward which will buff you and debuff your enemies.
If it is night, then maybe a lantern will be handy!
Items can be bought or crafted, and weapons can affect different creatures in different ways.




COMBAT
Kynseed had a sparkly new combat system that marries the look of a turn-based RPG, but has the reactions and strategy of an action combat game.
Think of it as a mix of One Step From Eden, the Super Mario RPG’s and Steamworld Quest.
You can attack your lane or diagonally adjacent, and each enemy position matches a button on your gamepad.
Combat is ruled by ‘Stamina’, and each attack uses one unit, although there are ways for the skilful to get free hits.
Moving and blocking deplete your stamina so make sure you have enough.
Stamina recharges and the rate of how fast depends on your stamina stat.






PARRY

By far the most useful and fun move, Parrying is something you will need to learn if you want to maximise your effectiveness (and it is FUN as we keep saying).
Time a block at just the right moment and you can reflect a projectile back at the slinger, or stop a melee attack and leave them open to a quick counter, the first hit of which is free.
Not everything can be parried though so watch out!




THE BOW
If you meet Moon the Archery Master, you may get a bow to aid you.
Bows initially don’t cause much damage, but are most effective at knocking enemies out of blocking, draining their stamina and stunning them...buying you time.
You have just 6 arrows per run but may find more on your explorations.




USE ITEMS
Those items you packed earlier? Well, you can use them anytime.
Some items can be used on yourself, or thrown onto what we call, ‘Nodes’...the halfway point of a lane between yourself and the enemy.
And some items can be hurled directly at enemies.
Bees. That’s all we will say.




NON-COMBAT ROOMS
As you travel from glade to glade in the forest, you may come across other room types.
These can be anything from little challenges to mysterious interactive elements...we will let you discover these.
You may also find a campfire to heal, although doing so will force you up a few levels of difficulty!



The update also contains a new region called Drownhill and some extra work on making the 3 shop types fun.
You can now raise reputation to earn perk points that you can spend on...you guessed it...Perks!
This is just the start of improving the business aspect of the game.
You will also find more proverbs filled in and a number of other fixes and little nuggets as detailed in the changelist which our scribe scrabbled to scribble.



We can’t wait to hear your feedback and watch your videos and streams as you battle the first set of foes in an update we are intensely proud of.
We poured a lot of hard work and love into this, and jugs of coffee into ourselves, just so we could send you to do our dirty work in the dark forest.
We want a cut of the loot by the way.

The latest update Hag & Slash: The Combat Update is now available and here is the changelog of what has been updated! As always, these things are an ongoing development, so expect bugs, balancing issues and an overwhelming urge to sprinkle herbs on things.

🔷 Combat completely redone into a Reactive Realtime Combat system
ᅠᅠ🔷 Head to Simplewood, at the top of Rivermoor to meet Jogon, Master of Combat and learn the way of the sword
ᅠᅠ🔷 Fight against 5 enemy types with multiple abilties to figure out
ᅠᅠ🔷 Equip a loadout of two swords, a ward/charm, 10 combat items and a meal
ᅠᅠ🔷 Choose your strategy carefully where death can cost you fairweather tax years of your life!

❌ No pollen weather appearing inside shops
❌ On selling a Good Store it restocks when you next enter the level
❌ Prevented purchase of multiple recipes from sellers like Mellowbrook Apothecary
❌ No more freebie premade cures if the player serves patients!
❌ Fix for follow points of followers that meant they got in the way more frequently
❌ Count next to ore in ledger should be what is in stock for workers rather than include the player's inventory
❌ Blacksmith worker should be able to craft shelf items if not all orders are complete due to missing ore
❌ Followers should follow in interiors
❌ Lemonade stand profit info should only include gains from the lemonade stand
❌ Shouldn't be able to access the options screen while changing level
❌ NPCs should recover from getting into non-navigable spots
❌ Fixed many star rating placeholder gossip lines

Greetings Seedings!

It’s that time again, when we lower the castle portcullis and send our excitable update sheep down the road into our community.
This fabulous update is a feast for the eyes and ears, as well as being packed with mystery and story.
Over the next few weeks, we will reveal more about the next update as our sheep reaches ramming speed as it charges down the hill towards the dark forest.
Judging by the helmet that our sheep is wearing, it would seem that there is going to be a bit of rough n tumble and the apothecary might need to stock up on wound treatments!
As for now, let’s have a look inside the Gathering Storm update, that we proudly present to you.



WEATHER & LIGHTING

Probably the stars of the show are our new lighting and weather systems.
Rain, fog, wind, heat and snow bring a level of immersion to Quill that takes the game to ambient heights.



WIND

A light breeze or a full-on gale. The Goddesses provide.




RAIN

Rain has various intensities, from “It’s spitting!” to “I love storms!”
Our resident weather coding expert Nick, also made it so it does not rain indoors, and the sound changes whether you are near bodies of water, near greenhouses and when you are snug inside.





SNOW

Ahhh a lovely crisp winter’s day. The tingle of a snowflake on your nose. The blast of icy death as a blizzard whacks you in the face.




FOG

From morning mists to creepy pea-soupers to colourful Fae rainbow clouds, you can’t beat fog for sheer atmosphere. Some say it is Dragon’s breath. Others say it is a visible aerosol of tiny water droplets. Some people are less fun than others.



LIGHTS & LANTERNS

Lights now contain themselves in houses. We tweaked the times of day and more importantly, made the lantern really cool and actually useful.



A NEW PET

Introducing the FILIFRYTH!
This magnificent and strange bushy owl is not so easy to tame, unless you know the way.
But what is the ability that this odd yet cute little creature has?
We are not telling you because that would be taking the Piscatootle.




NEW INTRO & MAJOR PROLOGUE CHANGES

Yes, we added some initial mystery and set up to the story, changed a ton of dialogue and moved tasks around. There will be fun. There will be shocks. There will be fear. There will be blood. Just kidding, that’s a great movie.

FAE REALM OF EVERGREEN


Find the method to unlock it, and you can visit the lush forests of Evergreen. Strange noises drift from ancient trees and bizarre denizens wander amongst the whispering trees and gentle streams with their discordant music.




The update also contains delights such as a new region transition system, various tweaks and polish and an absolute ton of bug fixes. We also probably introduced an absolute ton more too.

Some of you with high awareness stats may have noticed a very modest price rise on the Store page. We felt the added content to date justified a small raise, and this will help keep the Castle Guards from revolting. Some of them are already revolting, but their mother's love them.

We can’t wait to hear your feedback and see your screenshots and watch your streams.
