Do games like Legends of Runeterra get your competitive urge riled up? If so, ranked mode is a place where good players with decent decks can thrive in competitive matches against other people. You’ll even get some nice bonuses for participating in the current beta season, but you may even end up with some nifty rewards based on your progress.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Nate Crowley)

I’ve never particularly been one for competitive multiplayer games. I’ve played the odd bit of Overwatch in recent years, but mostly as a way to hang out with pals, and I quite enjoy the complete anonymity of ranked hearthstone, even though I’m guff at it. But I’ve always been massively scared to play strategy games against human opponents, in case it ruins the illusion that I might be good at them. Plus, I panic! I get disproportionately terrified by the idea of being locked in a map with someone who wants, essentially, to end my pretty game of ant-farming, and so the idea has always seemed too stressful to bother with.

But then, after I fell in love with Age Of Empires 2: Definitive Edition in November, I started watching casts of high level players fighting 1v1 duels as a way to relax before going to sleep, and ended up getting fascinated by the absolute precision with which they handled the game.

Temtem - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

Did you choose Crystle as your starter in Temtem? It’s a fantastic option for new players, but did you know that they can be found out in the wild? You won’t see them until the third island and they’re found in a rather specific spot, but if you didn’t get one to begin with, this Temtem is worth seeking.

The Early Access release of Temtem is now in full swing and it’s definitely an exciting little game to play. After all, there is now a Pok mon like game available on PC that is also a MMO. It’s filling a niche that, if I’m perfectly honest with you, I’m surprised hadn’t already been filled by the Pok mon games. As the game is available to the public for the first time, you may wish to get up to speed with the basics. Don’t worry Tamer, I’ve got you covered with a useful chart and some advice to get you started.

Dead Cells - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Splendid ‘n’ deadly roguelikelike platformer Dead Cells today launches its first paid add-on, Bad Seed. Rather than increasing the length of the game, Bad Seed increases its breadth, adding two new levels as alternatives to two early-game murderzones. The verdant Arboretum and sour Swamp have their own new monsters too. The DLC also adds weapons like a honking great scythe and… is that a lute which makes TWONG! noises when you twat baddies? I’m in.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sin Vega)

Fans have used the tilt-shift effect (one of those camera techniques you’d recognise but find hard to succinctly describe) and some clever editing to turn Red Dead Redemption 2 into a gorgeous little living model town. The resulting video is too good not to share below. (more…)

Tales From Off-Peak City Vol. 1 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Nate Crowley)

So, let s be real up front: I was dreading playing Tales From Off-Peak City Volume 1.. For whatever reason, my brain has barely any appetite for unlocking locked doors, solving mysteries, unravelling conspiracies or piecing together intricately implied backstories. A lot of adventure games just ain t for me, because I m a brute and a philistine. Added to that, I ve got an abiding fear of being outed as intellectually inferior, and nothing makes that anxiety tingle like high-brow stories about music, a subject that makes me feel like a complete, trudging dunce.

And here was this first-person point and click game, set in an intellectually formidable surrealist landscape, about stealing a famous jazzman s saxophone and getting sucked into a shadowy world where all was not as it seemed. Our Adam Smith described Off-Peak s predecessor, The Norwood Suite, as being about discovering the secrets behind a hotel, but really> being about learning about music and the creative process . I knew I was going to hate it, not because it was going to be bad, but because it was going to expose me for the idiot I was. And if you can t already tell by how heavily I ve set this up, I ended up loving it.

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 (2009) - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

New maps, new modes and new missions are what you lot have to expect when you log into Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare later, because Season Two drops today marking the return of a couple of Modern Warfare 2 fan-favourites. This season you’ll be able to get some games in on the classic map, Rust, and if you buy the Battle Pass you’ll be able to play as British spec-ops operator, Ghost (who I always thought looked more like a skeleton tbh but Ghost is a cool name too).

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

You may have noticed during your games of Legends of Runeterra that some players have different icons next to their name. There’s plenty to choose from, but we all know deep down the only three correct choices are a ghost shark, a Poro with a mallet, and a cat in a goddamn robot suit. There is good news, in that all these player icons are free and you can change your icon to one of these in just a few clicks.
