Perception - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Perception [official site], the horror game exploring the history of a spooky house through the ears of a blind woman with magical Daredevil echolocation, is now out. Our Adam already told us all Wot He Thinks of it last week, which is that it doesn’t quite come together, but now you can actually buy and play it yourself and form your own opinions then, as appropriate, tell Adam to: 1) cram it; 2) keep on keeping on; or 3) you know, whatever. … [visit site to read more]

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

I keep thinking we’re going through the golden era of TV, until the next year starts and it gets even better. Cinemas keep trying to work out why no one goes to their ludicrously overpriced brightly lit caves of disappointment any more, making increasingly ludicrous excuses about piracy and, I dunno, petrol prices, but the truth is: TV’s just a lot better than the movies these days. … [visit site to read more]

The Sims 4 version of Kevin the Teenager

The Sims 4 [official site] Parenthood pack is out now. The Parenthood pack is distinct from the toddler update which arrived in January and fleshed out that post-baby, pre-school period for the characters in your digital dollhouse. Toddlers were a free update, whereas Parenthood is paid DLC which seeks to change the relationships between parent and child characters making it more about guiding the development of your young charges and having interactions that are specifically designed around that caregiver/kid dynamic. … [visit site to read more]

Vanquish - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

A weird bug in Platinum’s bumsliding shooter Vanquish [official site], which made players take more damage if their game ran at a higher framerate, is now fixed. As some handy GIFs demonstrated on Friday, players running Vanquish at 60 frames per second would get hurt more than those at 30fps. Porting house Little Stone Software and publishers Sega acknowledged the issue on Sunday, released a beta version of a fix on Monday, then, after testing, made it official last night. Would’ve been better if they had caught the bug during development but hey, Vanquish is a good game so play it. … [visit site to read more]

Pyre - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Supergiant Games, the makers of Bastion and Transistor, have announced they’ll launch Pyre [official site] on July 25th. Their next game is a party-based RPG adventuring through purgatory in an ancient competition to escape. Ooh the colours of that place! I don’t know why you’d want to leave somewhere so pretty but the journey involves a lot of three-on-three battles to extinguish the enemy’s pyre while defending yours. Hence the name of the game. Here, you can see a bit of how combat works in this trailer from December: … [visit site to read more]

Sonic Mania - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Brendan Caldwell)

The ageing blue hedgehog who simply will not die was due to be back on all our machines by now in the retro-styled Sonic Mania [official site] but got delayed after, I don t know, his shoes fell apart because he can t afford new ones or something like that. It’s too late in the day to come up with a “Sonic is not being very fast” joke. Anyway, he s been re-scheduled for an August 15 release date, according to a fresh pre-order trailer. … [visit site to read more]

The humble gecko is a magnificent creature. Have you heard them scream? Well now you might, because Gecko Ridimption [official site] is a free frenzy of colour featuring sticky lizards with the ability to puke whole kayaks onto the wall and shoot lasers from their faces causing massive explosions. I d give you a reason for all this reptile chaos, but the best I can come up with is: Adult Swim . … [visit site to read more]

HITMAN™ - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Brendan Caldwell)

Hark! It’s the sound of our sweet voices taking up an hour of your precious time. The RPS podcast of old, the Electronic Wireless Show, has returned in a fresh new body. We’ve got news, interviews and silly features, as well as some of the traditional idle chat.

This week, Pip, Adam and I are chatting about Far Cry 5‘s “Last Supper” image, the recent layoffs at Hitman developer IO Interactive, and enjoying a jaunt through melancholy puzzler Old Man’s Journey. There’s also some Quickfire Questions with the developers of survival puzzler Rain World, news from Paradox Con and lots more. … [visit site to read more]

There have been some strange old murmurings around the glacial reveal of Far Cry 5 [official site], people worrying about it in all sorts of strange ways. And as the final reveal appeared at the end of last week, and we learned that – sigh – yes it is about a doomsday cult and your efforts to thwart them, I’m left wondering at what it could have been. … [visit site to read more]

The Long Journey Home - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Adam Smith)

It’s not all that long, the journey, but it is very busy. About six hours might do the trick, but you’re likely to get distracted along the way. Part Star Trek Voyager and part The Odyssey, The Long Journey Home [official site] puts you in charge of a small crew who have been stranded far from Earth due to a tech malfunction, and must make their way home, making friends and enemies along the way. Though it’s clearly inspired by the likes of Star Control and Captain Blood, I’ve found myself thinking of No Man’s Sky as I play. Here’s wot I think.
