Hell Let Loose - Ben B T17

Hello all,

First off, we want to thank everyone who has stuck with us through Update 18. We understand how frustrating the latest update has been, and we’re committed to making sure something like this doesn’t happen again.

With that in mind, we’re looking ahead to upcoming content and would love to get you, the community, more involved in the direction we’re heading.

This dev brief includes:

  • Update on connectivity issues and disconnecting issues

  • Information on this week’s community playtest

  • What is Smolensk?

First up however, we have seen your comments on connectivity issues in game, and wanted to address them head-on.

Connectivity Issues - What is happening in Hell Let Loose?

Over the weekend, one of our major server providers, Qonzer, confirmed that a large-scale 29.1TB/s DDoS attack has affected one of it's core protection networks. Although only 15-20% of clients were affected some of those have been Hell Let Loose servers. The attack, which for Qonzer / NEOProtect reached 29.1 terabits powered by the Aisuru Botnet, has caused widespread disruption across multiple large platforms with the majority being gaming related.

Recently attacks, which 1 year ago would reach between 10-30GB/s, are now unleashing anywhere between 100-1000GB/s and in some cases even higher.

While we know parts of this botnet and others like it are able to be rented in a pay-to-DDoS platform, they seem to be pointed towards some of the top listed HLL servers after they've been seeded. This is not an issue within Team17 or the game itself, but a result of server providers coming under attack.

We’re working closely with Qonzer as they investigate and implement their new protections with partners NEOProtect. Their upcoming statement, expected tomorrow, will outline further details, including a move to new server IP addresses to help stabilise performance.

From our side, Team17 is exploring ways to adjust the in-game favouriting system so that it isn’t tied to specific IP addresses as well as offering support to the server providers where we can.

We’ll share more information tomorrow. Thank you for your patience and continued support while we work alongside our partners and cyber-security experts to restore stability.

We also wanted to share that Hotfix 3 will be dropping very soon, fixing a number of client-side issues affecting players. More information to follow soon.

Now, time to enter the Battle for Smolensk.

Smolensk and SPAs PTE

This Friday, we’ll be holding our first Public Testing Environment (PTE) for our next map.

We heard your feedback after Update 18, and going forward, we’ll be working more closely with the community before updates go live: whether it’s for new maps, vehicles, or major gameplay changes.

This starts with our first PTE for the brand-new Smolensk map. As before, this will be a Steam-only event and will require you to download the Hell Let Loose (Public Testing) application.

During this test, we’ll have several servers open, including dedicated servers for competitive, clan, and community-led matches.

If you’re part of a clan and would like to get involved, please reach out to your server owner or contact our Community Manager, Ben B.

Smolensk

Smolensk is one of our most ambitious maps yet. With a focus on urban, multi-story combat, this city-heavy battlefield is the largest urban map in the game so far. It features three distinct regions, industrial, urban, and riverside, each offering new tactical challenges and gameplay opportunities.

During the PTE, please report any issues you encounter, such as invisible walls, bugged debris, or other map-related problems.

SPAs

Next up, we’re introducing Self-Propelled Artillery (SPAs), the newest addition to the battlefield.

These vehicles are part of our ongoing artillery rework and are expected to bring major gameplay changes. Because of this, we’ll be looking for as much community feedback as possible—both positive and negative.

Your feedback on these systems will be vital for the development team moving forward.

PTE Timeline

The PTE will be going live on Friday 7th November. During the course of the PTE, a number of our incredible communities will be joining the server for games to ensure that we have full lobbies.

These include (but aren’t limited to) communities such as Glow’s Battlegrounds hosting some community games, DraftHaus, PF and For Tea & Country joining the action, and a number of competitive matches will be getting played including some hard fought FNF games!

If you are wanting to get involved, be sure to speak to your server owner, or community lead to see whether they have any activities planned for the PTE.

What is Smolensk

For those who haven’t had a chance to read our Smolensk announcement blog, here’s a brief overview of our next map.

Smolensk will be the newest addition to the battle on the Eastern Front, created in direct response to community requests for more urban Eastern Front battlefields. Set on the banks of the Dnieper River in the summer of 1943, this version of Smolensk captures a pivotal moment in the Suvorov Operation, when Soviet forces launched a major offensive to retake the city from German control after losing it in 1941 during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa.

This new map will also be Hell Let Loose’s largest urban battlefield to date, featuring unique design elements that reshape how engagements unfold. Expect a scale and intensity unlike anything we’ve released before.

As you fight for control of the city, you’ll notice how the train tracks and the Dnieper River both cut vertically through the map rather than across it, creating new lanes of movement and forcing teams to think carefully about positioning and flanking. Meanwhile, the addition of three-story buildings, fortified walls, and an overpass brings vertical combat to the forefront. Players will need to look up as often as they look ahead, with enemies able to take positions in ways never before seen in Hell Let Loose.

For a deeper dive into the map’s development and features, head over to Dev Brief #208 to learn more about what awaits you when you enter Smolensk this Friday.

Legacy of Valor - kholat

Inside the historic chapel of Brandýs nad Labem Castle, we recorded the official soundtrack of Legacy of Valor with a live symphonic orchestra, solo vocalists, and a full choir. The unique acoustics within the ancient stone walls of this remarkable architecture gave every note extraordinary depth and resonance, turning the music into something truly alive.

SUPPORT US ON KICKSTARTER

Composed by Petr Folta and performed by the NEOM Orchestra, this soundtrack captures the soul of Legacy of Valor: the quiet tension before battle, the clash of steel, and the enduring spirit of honor and glory.

We had goosebumps hearing these melodies. Every note carries our vision forward, toward a world that feels truly alive, epic, and worthy of its name. The atmosphere feels on par with major world productions, and Legacy of Valor is not aiming any lower.

If you love the music and believe in the project, please share the video and our Kickstarter campaign. Tag your favorite content creators and help us bring Legacy of Valor to the place it truly belongs, into the hands of players who will enjoy it in its full glory.

Tamer: King of Dinosaurs - NandoKRN

Hey everyone!

This update will introduce you to some challenges we encountered while working on the Stampede Sequence and Sheela's Romance.

It's been very rewarding to see the world of Tamer: King of Dinosaurs come to life while listening to all the feedback you brought us.

Don't forget to wishlist it!

Creating this sequence has proven incredibly challenging because of the logistics of including three massive triceratops running behind Victor and Sheela. Keeping these giants moving smoothly within the confines of the environment is challenging, but we've done a good job of it so far, aside from a few minor sections of the track that require additional work.

Coming up with interactions that could utilize the trikes also took some creative brainstorming, but we ultimately found a few fun setups that are working well for us. Pulling off the part where the water extinguishes the fire in front of the player was something we really enjoyed.

This sequence will be made available for testing in the October build later this month.

Sheela Chinese Celebration Outfit

We're finishing Sheela's Chinese outfit, and we've posted a short preview video of it in action on our public Discord.

Stampede!

We have completed the most complex animation sequence in the game, which is the stampede that happens on day 5.

We need to finish the sound design for this, but once that's done, we plan to post a preview here. For such a small team and budget, it's crazy how we pulled this off!

One-Eye Chase & Trel vs the Birds

Look at how scary and badass this fucking Utahraptor is, you guys. Holy hell. This bro is about to chase you through the jungle and try to claw your goddamn face off and eat you and shit.

Are you a bad enough dude to shoot him in the face with a bunch of arrows to keep your harem safe?

We've talked about this character (One-Eye) several times before, but just to reiterate, he's a "Nemesis" style baddy that you encounter several times throughout the game as he tries to chomp Sheela as revenge for shooting him through the dome with an arrow that somehow didn't kill him and only made him more pissed off.

This chase sequence is going to be one of the most intense of the game. We expect to wrap production around the end of this month, so our next internal build will be loaded with TWO chase sequences for you to try!

We're still polishing his animation in particular, but the general direction and flow of the sequence is pretty set at this point. It's also missing the ending, which we don't want to spoil right this moment, but those who get to play our upcoming build will see it!

We'll also be adding more NSFW content, but we're still sorting out who the lucky girl is going to be, so we'll get back to you about that soon.

Galmine Render

We recreated one of Tamer's original art pieces in 3D for promo purposes with Galmine, so have a look and let us know how we did:

Trel vs the Birds

If you've read book 1 of Tamer: King of Dinosaurs, then you know (MORE SPOILERS) that Trel has a scene where she saves Victor and Sheela from a swarm of orange birds by finally picking up a spear and solo destroying dozens of them.

This is by far the most complex animation sequence in the entire game in terms of character work, and it took a lot of work, but we're 95% done at this point. Now we just need to add lighting and VFX as well as sound, and then we'll have a preview available for you.

For now, you can enjoy some very rough screenshots:

Trel NSFW Scene Previews & Animations

Speaking of spider mommy, Trel's romance scenes are almost finished now as we're currently polishing the orgasm animations and importing them.

We're still in discussions about when to include her in our internal demo tests, but she may be the next girl, and if not, she will be available by the end of the year.

Here are a few previews below:

Trel NSFW Scene Lighting

Have you ever seen a literal lighting bug? Here's Victor experiencing that while plowing Trel on a mountainside.

Sheela Romance Scene

A small detail, but an important one - we're finishing up Sheela's romance scene with Victor now, which features a full strip sequence. This requires us to do all sorts of little tricks to make the removal of her clothes look realistic without having to do anything too difficult.

Part of this is creating a simulation so we can actually do it in the game's engine, like all our cutscenes, rather than do pre-recorded video files.

Sheela Undressing

We're still working out the kinks in Sheela's big undressing sequence, and we're at the point where the boobies are properly popping, but the bikini and panty slide still needs work.

We also need to clean up the performance capture so her arms don't go through the previously mentioned boobies, and that will be a later step since we're still busy with a lot of other scenes now. But rest assured, this sequence is gonna be legendary.

Sheela NSFW Scene

We're wrapping up the animation for Sheela's first NSFW scene, and this thing is turning out so kino we can hardly contain our excitement. Here are some preview shots for you, but please note these are all rough with no lighting, and Sheela's gonna be buck naked in the final product after the first shot.

Carnotaurus Cave

We recently completed this basic but crucial environment that's needed for a few cutscenes towards the end of the game. While the sequences that stem from the Carnotaurus nest map are indeed a significant deviation from the books, the action itself is pretty similar.

MILD SPOILERS AHEAD - The tribe will find a carnotaurus nest in the valley and need to do something about it before they are overrun with predators. How they handle it will be revealed once you get to the final day, and the chase sequence that initiates afterwards will be one of the most brutal we'll be including.

Kentrosaurus Testing

Four-legged enemies are tricky to integrate into action games, so we're currently giving some attention to the Kentrosaurus and getting it online. This guy is meant to serve as an early difficulty spike as the second enemy you encounter after the deinonychus.

Upgraded Spear Animations

Victor's old placeholder attacks are getting tossed out, and now we have some real spear-slinging going on. We'll have some previews of the combat system in action by the end of the year, so you can know what to expect from Tamer, which is a lot of dinosaurs getting brutally eviscerated by primitive weapons.

What's Next?

Next month, we'll be wrapping up the One-eye chase and will show you some pictures of that. Expect a new skin for Trel coming from our supporters' poll and, possibly, a Christmas skin!

Thank you so much for your support. Don't forget to wishlist Tamer: King of Dinosaurs! See you next month!
