Major Bug Fixes & Other Updates

Fixed a major glitch where the enemy can stop attacking unexpectedly during combat in very particular situations.

Updated the Enemy Target Lock System so that it auto-unlocks when it loses track of the enemy and auto-relocks when facing the enemy again.

Fixed a major glitch during any NPC dialogue where, if switching from the game to any other window on a PC (EX, the Internet), then switching back to the game, the game no longer works, and no buttons are recognized.

• Fixed a glitch during any NPC dialogue where the mouse unexpectedly appears on screen.

• Fix some problems with the level design in Cathuybia.

• Updated the background sound effects and audio in Shakenah's Domain to better fit the mood.

• Fixed a glitch at the end of the game when the map image is not fully fit on the screen.

• Fixed grammar mistakes and improved the story content in all NPC dialogue throughout the game.

This is the Midnight Study development team.

We’re excited to announce that Act 2 of the labyrinth within the school has been completed, and we’d like to share both a preview of the new stage and an update on our Early Access release schedule.


Early Access Schedule Update

Let’s start with the news many of you have been waiting for.

We’re happy to announce that Midnight Study will enter Early Access on 📅 November 14th,
timed with the G-STAR 2025 game exhibition in Busan, South Korea.

(Please note that depending on Steam’s build approval process, the release may experience a short delay — but our goal is to launch within November.)

💡 What’s Included in Early Access
  • 3 Acts total (B1 Underground / 1F Classroom / 2F Faculty Office)

  • 2 Playable Characters (The remaining 2 will be added in future updates.)

  • 101 Charms / 80 Relics / 45 Monsters / 30 Mystery Events

  • Each Act features 3 Elite enemies and 3 unique Bosses

We’re working hard to polish the game, and we can’t wait to welcome you back on Early Access launch day!


Act 2: The Classroom of Oblivion

Haneul and her friends have narrowly escaped the nightmare below and finally reached the first floor

though, of course, new terrifying spirits await them there...

Yongcheon High’s first floor features a grand central lobby with a staircase and mirror,

with classrooms stretching out along both sides.

From this Act onward, we’ve added variations in background color palettes and fog tones,

giving each stage a distinct atmosphere and mood.

Act 2 focuses on spirits and yokai inspired by Korean folklore.

These new entities have more complex skills and attack patterns than those found in Act 1 —

you might even find yourself missing the basement...

True to their ghostly nature, many of them possess transformation abilities.

And as for the boss… let’s just say you can expect many horrifying transformations. 😈


Looking Ahead

We want to thank everyone who played the demo and shared feedback with us.

Your input has been invaluable — especially regarding the Slingshot system and clarity of charm descriptions.

Following the Early Access release, we’ll be focusing on Slingshot improvements throughout November and December.

Our goal is to evolve beyond simple “charm aiming,” adding new mechanics, richer feedback, and more satisfying visual effects to make each shot feel impactful and dynamic.

Many of you have also requested clearer Charm keywords and descriptions — this feature will be included in the upcoming v0.2.0 update.

🗓️ Future Roadmap

In the first half of 2026, we’ll begin development of Act 4 and Act 5,

alongside expanded Charm synergy systems and enhanced effect visuals.

We’ll share more detailed plans in a future roadmap update.


Our next announcement will likely be about Act 3’s development progress,
but if things move quickly, we may post an additional update before the Early Access launch.

With this update the player will be able to decorate their house.

The start of the game for a new character has also been made easier by increasing the number of health potions and mana potions that a new character starts with. Now the player also gets full hp and mana when leveling up, which also will make the start of the game flow a bit better.

This is Mari and Jenny from Citreat Studio, the developers of Zero-Sum Heart! We just wanted to pop in to say thank you as we reach the 1-year anniversary of this little game. Zero-Sum Heart, alongside the soundtrack and artbook, it's currently on discount for Scream Fest and the cheapest it's ever been so feel free to jump in :)

Here's a little celebratory art, courtesy of Jenny, to celebrate this milestone! (Consider it somewhat of an alternate universe, as The Mighty Witch would probably never deign to dine with and play third-wheel to these two idiots.)

Hope everyone is having a great time with your family and friends and eating something warm, as winter is fast approaching! (Or for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, hope you are having some ice cream :)

We developed this game in around 6 months, so it has officially been twice as long as the time it took to make it.

This game is important to us, both because it's our debut project as an indie studio, and because it was honestly just super fun to make and seems to have changed our lives in magical ways. As we spent the year chipping away at a much bigger project (more on that to come!), we really started appreciating Zero-Sum Heart more as something small and tight and beautiful.

In this year, we've added Japanese, French, and Latam Spanish, all thanks to the love and support from this little community of people who played the game and found something that resonated with them; so they generously contributed their work in helping the game reach more people, and that is sincerely something we've never expected and are endlessly grateful for.

So, thank you to everyone for playing and hope you are all having a very nice day <3
