It’s been a while since the last update, and I’ve been working hard improving Hunkfrat to make the core gameplay feel tighter and more satisfying.
Here’s what’s new since the last version:
The weapon system has been completely restructured to support multiple weapons.
Previously, the player could only use a single gun, which obviously isn’t ideal for an FPS.
Now, the system dynamically handles different weapon types, animations, and unique shooting/reloading logic.
This update lays the foundation for more variety and scalability in future builds.
To make the game more content-rich, I’ve added three new weapons to the game:
Assault Rifle – reliable, balanced, and perfect for mid-range combat.
Shotgun – powerful, close-range weapon for clearing tight spaces.
Knife – a quick melee option for finishing off enemies up close.
Each weapon will support the planned upgrade and attachment system, which I'll be expanding further in the upcoming updates.
A lot of internal code has been simplified and optimized for better performance and stability.
This cleanup makes future development much easier and reduces potential bugs down the line.
In the next phases, I’ll be focusing on:
Expanding the Weapon Upgrade System,
Reformatting the Quest System to fit a linear First Person Shooter better.
Building the rest of the campaign levels and story
And getting closer to the final release of Hunkfrat.
If you’d like to learn more about:
How the new weapon system looks like,
Various informations about the game,
And when it’s planned to release...
Thanks for reading and supporting the project. it really means a lot to me 😇.
If you haven’t already, don’t forget to add Hunkfrat to your Steam wishlist and join our Discord community for future updates and sneak peeks.
Stay tuned, more is on the way!

For anyone that still remembers and likes Demonpact: Clarice, I recommend you checking out my new game, Bad Bitch Blasters!!
I wanted to keep making games with a LOT of characters, unique and weird RPG systems, and choices that actually matter! (BBB has 8 different endings). It has an overhauled battle system when compared to Demonpact: Clarice, freaking TERRIBLE spelling, and an even stupider story! (at first).
Also, not to brag or anything...
EVERY SINGLE ENEMY IN THE GAME IS ANIMATED, EVEN THEIR ATTACKS !!!
(Your party members will only have animations on skills that you don't use often, to not make it repetitive)
This time, I feel like I made something even more concentrated and condensed, and even if a lot of things are happening at the same time, the longer you play and replay the game, the more you can exploit the systems to do something really cool.
New systems include a new game plus mode, global save data that remembers everything you do, a resizable window, and you can even play the game with your mouse!!
Please check it out!!!

The wait is nearly over! The Soldier Update (Version 0.10) is being released on Thursday. Before then, we would like to show you some of the changes that haven't yet been mentioned in our dev diaries so far.
We have improved readability throughout the game. All fonts in the game have been enlarged. Individual menus, such as the journal, have been adjusted in terms of size and appearance.
You can now also select a sans serif font in the options, which makes reading easier.
We hope this will make the game more accessible for people with dyslexia and for those playing on the Steam Deck. Please give us your feedback once you've had a chance to try it out.
With the Soldier Update, you can now assign a new soldier to an existing one in your troop to help them get around. Depending on who you assign, the new soldier's opinion, personality and other attributes may change.
We have also introduced new tasks in the camp to make the troops' daily routine more varied. Some new journal stories have been written in response to specific situations in the game, and new illustrations have been added to other journal stories.

Last but not least, the beta started today. You can now try out the update via the Steam Beta Branch. Thank you to everyone participating in the beta and supporting us with bug reports during this phase!

	Hi everyone,
we've brewed up a spooky seasonal update packed with a new character, new events, major performance experiments, and a whole graveyard's worth of fixes. Let's get to the treats!
A new survivor joins the fight!
His mechanic is all about spawning Pumpkin Turrets! These turrets function as "triggerable" items. When another item in your build triggers them, they fire. This system is a bit more complex than other characters, and we can't wait to see the crazy builds you all come up with!

How to Unlock: Head to the "Fields" map in the meadow biome. Find and loot a Pumpkin Patch to get the Pumpkin item. To unlock the character, you have to keep that item in your backpack until you defeat the map's boss. In addition, you need to have a knife placed next to the pumpkin in your inventory.
Give a little, get a little... back from the dead. This new event grants a Blood Bag (a free +1 Revive). When you use it, you get an Empty Blood Bag. Fill it up by killing zombies to turn it into a Zombie Blood Bag, which will revive you with 10% HP on your next death.
This is locked by a new "Not Today" achievement.
Why settle for just one character-specific item when you can have more? This new shop can appear during your runs, offering character items from other heroes you've already unlocked! (It won't offer the item for the character you're currently playing).
The costume shop can be unlocked with tape, after achieving the "Multiple personalities" achievement.
And of course... we've added Halloween decorations here and there to get in the spirit!
We're testing some major optimizations. These could be game-changers for late-game lag, but they are experimental. Please let us know if you notice any strange behavior!
Projectile Merging: The game is now capped at 100 weapon projectiles per second. If you go over this cap, your projectiles will merge, increasing their damage and proccing effects multiple times. (Let the chaos be optimized!)
XP Orbs: Orbs now drop in different tiers (meaning fewer orbs on screen, but the same XP value) and can merge together.
Orb Trail Setting: You can now deactivate the XP orb trail in the Graphics Settings, which can sometimes be a performance hog.
Improved performance for Rat Impact, Poison Impact, lighters, throwable explosions (e.g., banana, grenade), and fire shoes.
Steam Deck Love:
Item description font is now bigger and easier to read.
The virtual keyboard will now pop up automatically where needed.
Map hints for character locking events: The Astronaut and Pumpkin events are now clearly marked with a "?" on the map.
Save Compatibility: You'll now see a popup if you try to "Continue" a run from a previous, incompatible game version. (Note: Endless Mode high scores won't be submitted from old saves).
Settings Tidy-Up: Moved the density parameters to the Graphics Settings menu.
Weapon sounds now have slight random pitches for more satisfying audio feedback.
Changed the (slightly jarring) confetti unlock sound.
Titan Blockage: This challenge now starts with fewer enemies, but more enemies will be added for every Titan you successfully defeat.
Normal Highway Blockage: A "hard mode" is now automatically activated after you kill the first boss on this map, resulting in more mobs. Good luck.
Find the Astronaut: We've added a dedicated map (with a space shuttle icon) for the canyon biome. This map guarantees the Space Shuttle will spawn, making it much easier to find and unlock the Astronaut.
Fixed enemy projectile damage being much lower than it should have been if the projectile didn't reach its max speed.
Fixed some items not showing up in the encyclopedia
Fixed spawned loot (from airdrops, etc.) sometimes landing in unreachable places.
Fixed loot speed on the Normal Highway blockage being dependent on your framerate.
Current health, armor, and stamina are now correctly clamped to their max values. (This fixes a bug where unequipped values could sometimes remain active).
Fixed a bug (hopefully!) where loading missions would rarely get stuck on the loading screen.
Fixed the Franky Boss's tackle sound sometimes looping forever.
Fixed the Apple Pie effect staying active even after unequipping it during an Airdrop.
Fixed the "Death" achievement not triggering if you died while having armor.
Fixed a rare bug where the player could dash onto an inaccessible cliff in canyon/mountain maps.
Fixed the mission choice map generation sometimes becoming unstable when unlocking a new event for the 4th-5th day (Highway Blockage).
Fixed Endless Mode not choosing a random boss if you hadn't beaten all bosses at least once.
Fixed that the Blob Ball will get stuck or fail to reach the player when you're near the burger building.
Fixed that the Blob Ball boss could be flung out of the boss arena by an Airdrop.
Please note that due to these significant adjustments, we've had to reset the Endless Mode leaderboards. This was necessary to ensure the top spots remain competitive and reachable. You can view all previously wiped leaderboards here:

Hats stacking stats in Colosseum Mode
Other kart racers now have more varied speed in races
Updates:
Added more varied card types/effects to the Colosseum Mode
Added VFX for the jump
Added VFX for the different jump skill
Dozer less likely to appear in the shop since it’s too good
Replaced feedback button with credits button (which will be updated further over time with the people who helped us with the game)
Volume menu updated with more functional UI (Volume now goes all the way to zero!)
Added a way for players to clear their saves (if they would ever want to)
Added Pillar impact effects (sfx and dust plume) in the Dungeon Stage
Thank you for following along with our progress, for playing our game, and we hope you like the changes!
Until next time!
