Tower Lab Playtest - playtugstudio
Hellooo! We wanted to get one more patch in before the end of the playtest to fix some of the critical issues that have been impacting the experience. Since this patch is coming in so late in the day, we've decided to extend the playtest a few hours. It will now end on Monday, October 27th at 9PM PDT!

Features

  • 🕹️ Added an initial implementation of Sandbox Mode! All towers can be freely placed for experimentation (and deleted by pressing X while holding them). Note: Level building and waves will be added in the future.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Grow/Shrink towers ignoring the minimum and maximum scaling limits (causing enemies to be 50x the intended maximum mass in some cases)
  • Fixed Grow/Shrink/Fan volumes being slightly too small and too high off the platform, resulting in very small objects like units and Mines being unaffected in most cases
  • Fixed an issue where Gravity Tower's projectile could despawn briefly after wave start
  • Fixed an issue where immovable decorative lanterns could be scaled
  • Fixed an issue where units could be too large to fit into the exit portal
  • Fixed level 1 platforms being misaligned with the build grid
  • Fixed mines not increasing explosive force based on scale level
  • Temporarily disabled tower swapping while in build mode as it was causing towers to be picked up when starting waves

Balance Changes

  • Adjusted the default scale and mass of all enemies across the game. Enemies can now be larger and have the appropriate maximum mass. This impacts the balance relationship between units and towers across the board, so many towers have been reduced slightly to compensate.
  • Rebalanced waves in levels 2-5 to contain fewer of the heaviest units. Level 3 in particular introduced heavy units far too early compared to 4 and 5
  • Rebalanced the stability system (consecutive hits on units have increased force)
  • Increased the force multiplier from 1.5x to 2x
  • Decreased max stability multiplier from 5x to 3x
Default Enemy Unit
  • Increased the default size for visual clarity
Bomb Tower
  • Increased effect radius from 4 to 5
  • Increased explosion force from 4 to 6
Fan Tower
  • Reduced blow force from 8 to 6
Mine Tower
  • Reduced spawn radius from 1.0 to 0.5 (mines spawn closer to the center of the path)
  • Increased explosion effect radius from 2 to 4
  • Increased explosion force from 4 to 9
  • Increased mine default size by ~20%
Tesla Tower
  • Reduced activate interval from 3s to 2s
  • Reduced lightning damage from 10 to 4

Good morning to the best community,

Simon here. Some of you probably already wondered why there haven’t been many updates lately, both of the game and from us devs. Don’t panic, we’re still here and alive.

The reason why things went unusually slowly in the last couple of weeks is, that Marc and me had to take on another temporary project on the side, since Screw Drivers unfortunately hasn’t been performing as well as we’d hoped, and we needed to keep being able to pay our rent and feed the bugs living under our beds. I really really tried to find the time and energy to put some work into Screw Drivers as well, but it was just too much for me, and I noticed that this took a toll of my mental health.

I’m getting by now, but my heart is broken since I’m currently not able to work on my most loved project in the world. And on top of that I really miss my Screw Drivers community, I’m sorry I haven’t been as active as usual on Steam and discord, I just needed some time to cope with everything, and I’ll be back soon I promise!

Come to the light at the end of the tunnel now, I will be back at full speed on the project in a couple of months. Until then I thought that we just release all the new stuff Marc, Lucas and me have prepared and worked on over the last couple of weeks and months. These things aren’t properly balanced and polished or even finished yet. But I want you to be able to play around with all of that, and by the time I’m back full speed on Screw Drivers, I can take all your feedback on all the new things we did, take the million bugs you’ve found and make Screw Drivers the absolute best game in the world.

This big update with lots of unfinished beta content will come in 3 days, on the 30th of October! I’ll try to make a little video showcasing everything that’s in it, and multiplayer is one of those things, finally! :)

Until then, from the bottom of my heart I’m sorry for not being here as much as I wanted to, and I really cannot wait to be back as soon as possible!

Hello everyone, we hope you are having an amazing day. Its been a while since we have released any sort of update to the demo which may have had some of you worried whether this project had been abandoned. However this isn't the case, we've been working hard on the game and have improved it significantly since the last major update.

Alongside that we've also made the decision, through a vote in our discord community server, that in order to boost morale of our supporters and help us out with funding the project and deliver you the greatest experience possible, we are planning to release the game in "tapes" starting October 27th. The tapes will essentially be chapters and tape 1 will consist of more content filled demo + a couple more levels.

We thank you for your loyalty and patience so without further ado lets get into the content itself:

Did you feel it? Adherents of the necromancer guild recently emerged from the catacombs, bringing with them the smell of decay. Hungry for fresh souls, they will sell you anything to get them, and they will even share their dark power. These exiles may not look powerful enough, but don't underestimate them or you'll be damned forever!

Between October 27 and November 24, kill monsters and collect souls from them. In Horizon, Catana, Laxey, Rondo and in the Dead City you can find Halloween Stewards from the Necromancers Guild.

For 2 monster souls, you can receive a powerful aura from them for 2 hours, giving +66 to all characteristics except luck.

And for 1 soul - magical Halloween artifacts, including:
🎃pumpkin sweets that instantly restore health and mana,
🎃necromancer crystals that increase certain characteristics by 66,
🎃zombie nail (increases character growth for 30 minutes),
🎃terrible stamina stabilizers,
🎃damned stamina cookies,
🎃horrible potion (Halloween version of a good luck potion),
🎃Frankenstein's potion (Halloween version of BBF),
🎃stat-boosting Halloween hats for 365 days,
🎃High Witch card,
🎃various charged particles of the Necromancer,
🎃various pure particles of the Necromancer,
🎃decorative Halloween pets for 28 days,
🎃distorted zombie mask,
🎃Halloween surprise cape.

It is not necessary to exchange all collected souls one at a time - you can exchange 1, 10, 25 or 50 souls at once and receive a reward for each of them.

Upon entering the game, each character will receive a special effect that increases all of their characteristics, except luck, for 2 hours. The more monster souls players on your server turn over to Halloween stewards, the stronger the effect becomes. To update it, simply re-login to your character. Every day the buff is reset to 0.5% and accumulates again.

But that is not all! You will probably notice that adherents of the necromancer guild are talking about some kind of festive costumes. What is it? Follow the news carefully, and very soon you will find out everything!
