Avernum 4: Greed and Glory - Spiderweb

Started in 1994, the cult classic Avernum series is one of the great video game sagas. On Wednesday, October 22, Spiderweb Software returns to this unique underworld nation with Avernum 4: Greed and Glory! Coming for Windows and Mac.

Join us at 2 PM PST on Saturday the 25th on the game's Steam page. There, you can see our second (of 2) livestream by the developer, a grumpy indie developer veteran who has been making his odd, low-budget, fun adventures for 31 (!) years. Enjoy learning about the decades-old Avernum series and the indie games business from a fun old crank.

In this new, epic fantasy role-playing adventure, you explore and save (or betray?) an enormous underworld nation. Battle through huge dungeons, fight unique and cunning foes, collect, create, and bless hundreds of different artifacts, and enjoy a really cool story.

Avernum is a nation deep underground, full of huge caves, treacherous labyrinths, and fairylands of alien fungi. Once a prison, it has won its freedom and is now reaching for wealth and glory. However, old enemies from the deepest caves envy Avernum's growing power. You will have to fight to save this new, fragile land (or be well paid to betray it).

You can see an Avernum 4 trailer, screenshots, and plenty of information on our web site or on our Steam page. Available for sale on October 22nd!

Retro Rail GO! - General Menezes

Hi, everyone!

It's been a while since our first DevLog, but work continues on developing Retro Rail GO!
This time, I would like to explain and show a bit of our customizable UI!

Building a nostalgic "driven" game lead me to understand that different players had different preferences in regards to UI, depending on which game they used to play in the good old days. So, instead of settling for a single gameplay UI standard, I have decided to have a few presets, from which you can further customize the location, visibility and style of each element. In the GIF below, you can see 3 presets: classic, cabin and modern - each deriving from a different era of train simulators.

Thanks for reading this far!

See you soon!

Heart of the Machine News Recap

Last week, Heart of the Machine released Update 39 -- a major update, and the third in the game's development history. The latest in a series of changes focused on the late-game experience, this update adds the long-awaited "Daring Shop", which allows players to spend the Daring resource that they accumulate while playing higher difficulties.

Update 39 also added additional Intelligence Class 7 Unlocks, rebalanced Ziggurats, and added lots of Daring-related optimization that helps players skip past repetitive tasks. Check out the full changelog for an in-depth look at everything this major update added to the game:

In addition to this major update, Heart of the Machine has gotten four regular updates over the last month.

Update 38 introduced a lot of quality-of-life changes, mostly focused on improving the late-game experience and reconfiguring weapon balance curves. It also added more storage for canned protein procured from...mysterious sources.

Update 37 brought a significant improvement to the game's RNG. Following this update, Heart of the Machine now uses SquirrelNoise5 for its random number generation instead of MersenneTwister.

Update 36 was another hefty update that introduced a second set of dooms, 8 new achievements, new equipment, and a new path to instigating WW4.

Update 35 was a big one for pacifism enjoyers. This update added a second method for starting a war cult, and balanced this change with the addition of several non-lethal options for combat. As of this update, it's possible to do a full pacifist run of the game's first chapter -- and you can get a new achievement for doing so.
