Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire - dev

Most of these changes have already been applied to the Steam and Switch versions of Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire, but the PS5 and Xbox versions had not received the big update unti now.

Gameplay:

  • Fix: Glenn clips into his bed when getting up during the attack on Blossom

  • Fix: Unable to find all 18 trash pirates in the Kiezel Fracture

  • Fix: Gulliven's opening line gets cut off too quickly when approaching Stalkista

  • Fix: Side quest marker can be seen on screen during scene approaching Stalkista

  • Fix: No side quest waymarker back to Dead Rock at the end of "The Brother and the Dreamer"

  • Fix: Lots of flickering when flying around Zabutyy Outpost in the overworld

  • Fix: Game judders when flying through the wind wall tunnels

  • Fix: Bucket's profile picture keeps disappearing in conversation after he joins the crew

  • Fix: Unable to leave Zabutyy after completing the Ancient Ruins, leading to a progression blocker

Combat:

  • Fix: Enemy image incorrectly appeared as Vanessa during combat with an Alliance Airship

  • Fix: Enemy airship invisible when attacked by the Aerius Purge art

  • Fix: Camera struggles to stay focused on characters and enemies during multiple unique arts

  • Fix: Issue with enemies healing each other during combat

  • Fix: Entered combat just as was destroying an extractor in Yaatana led to a blocker

  • Fix: Early game the hit percentages for machine gun attacks are far too low

  • Fix: Allies and enemies often target incorrect characters during Yaatana

  • Fix: Multiple issues when using Zenith's Death From Above art

  • Fix: Enemies often get stuck in a loop of constant evading when on low health

New Features:
  • Added new mysteries and a puzzle sequence in previously underwhelming sections including 8 knowledge gates (if you have an old save: start in the house of the nerd with the spikey front yard) - this adds another mandatory step in the middle of the "imperial helmet" quest.

  • Added two new puzzles behind Floortown.

  • Added a 2nd legal way to get the sponge suit.

  • Added secret trick to get toothpin for free

  • Reworked and added some secrets.

  • 3 New achievements for you to get!

Quality of life:
  • Carriables now leave a hologram behind at their spawn location.

  • Made Ghost more transparent and quiet.

  • Rebalanced presents and coins (less presents in too easy to reach sections).

  • Snail area and castle vicinity now have separate secret counters.

  • A few Secret area changes and additions.

  • Less enemy spawns.

  • Toothpick has more stabbing range.

  • Floppy disk puzzle also works in a non- meta way now.

  • Added more puzzle police.

  • Made less carriables lose their initial spawn location when fashionized.

  • Solver guide's hints are numbered now.

Fixes:
  • Finetuned the start to ease in players a little bit better.

  • Fixed bug where game would not save anymore after a combat arena.

  • Prevented some paths that skip a lot at the castle.

  • Suitcase turned around 180° for OOB reasons.

  • Fixed way of getting "jump height x2" egg without solving the puzzle.

  • Fixed potato near acid not working right.

  • Fixed magnet not working on objects that were respawned while being magnetized.

  • Fixed various OOBs.

  • Fixed bug where Padlock guy didn't remember his combination.

  • Made sure certain textures that need to be readable never become blurry when vram is too full (that also made safety glass look breakable which it wasn't).

Misc:
  • Lots of little or big improvements here or there to make puzzles fairer and better to use.

  • Various small performance fixes.

  • Upgraded engine to 5.6.1.

  • Disabled XeSS due to issues with Unreal 5.6.1.

But I had good reasons! Right now I’m completely buried in the script - trying my best to finish the writing part before September, so that in September I can finally start the translation.

Part 3 is turning out very choice-heavy, and I constantly have to keep a huge web of details in mind - it’s impossible to get distracted.

At the moment the Part 3 folder already holds 24 text files, and I think in the end it might reach 30.

So, here’s a tiny spoiler with some choices that really capture the whole dynamic with Victor, HAHAHA:

1.Tell him to f*ck off and get away from him

2. Feel the urge to kiss him

3. Try to accept it

4. Try to convince him otherwise
