Xeno Rangers is released today!

Xeno Rangers is a Couch-Co Op Platformer Defense game where you must defend your HQ from enemy hordes by building your base and defenses wisely, while you fight using weapons & items acquired and upgraded along the way. It’s built for fans of Tower Defense and action platforming.

Thanks for all the bug reports. I'm continuing to fix and improve the game - with a focus on show-stopping problems. Here's what I fixed in 1.03.

Added option on Steam Deck to show Mouse Cursor, if you prefer to play with a virtual mouse rather than touch (please use the system settings to change the joystick or trackpad to mouse emulation).

Keyboard shortcuts only appear when you start using the keyboard. They won't show if you're a mouse only player

Fixed issue with resuming a save with "This Modifier shows the next four tiles to come out of the Letter Bag"

Fixed extremely rare crash related to giving random Upgrades

Fixed issue with resuming a save game and Modifiers/Special Rounds that highlight which tiles are vowels

Improved clarity on rules for Special Round "Can Submit Up to 4 Tiles"

Fixed issue with Modifier "+2 Bonus Points if the word is the same length as the previous word" not working with compound tiles

Fixed bug with "Tiles Refresh After Submission. Refreshes Cost Plays" Special Round and being able to get negative plays

Added explanation on certain Modifiers to state exactly which tiles count as Special Tiles

Fixed trigger issue with Modifier "If the word has exactly five tiles, the first and last tiles score 3x"

Fixed save and load issue with Modifier "You can Refresh for free. Works once per round"

Fixed issue with the game not using correct scores if you resume a save game while playing with a custom (non-English) Letter Bag

Fixed issue with "Swap a tile with a Vowel from the Letter Bag"

Fixed rare issue with tutorials and controls when playing with a controller

Changed rarities on "Return First Tile to Grid", "Return Last Tile to Grid" and "If another Modifier is Sold or Destroyed, make a copy" Perks

Changed description of a wildcard, to better explain how it operates and reduce ambiguity

Removed a slur from the dictionary

Fixed an issue with the Modifier "If the word contains a number from ONE to TWENTY, increase this Modifier by that many points"

Battlesmiths: Blade and Forge - ragnarocketleon

Hey Battlesmiths,

While we're still some time away from the Steam release of our game, we'd like to share the news concerning Steam Deck playability. Our testing shows great results with launching and playing Battlesmiths on Steam Deck (in fact, some of our developers now prefer it to any other platform).

We can safely say that Battlesmiths is already fully playable on Steam Deck via the already available touch screen control options and will be compatible with Steam Deck upon Steam release (screenshots captured on Steam Deck below).

First of all thank you for an amazing release date. I am overwhelmed by the feedback I got.

There were some errors I address in this first patch

  • Fix: Hole in hex field after opening ogre chest

  • Fix: Slider interaction in XP Main Menu Bar

  • Fix: Steam Achievements not triggered when already achieved in demo

  • Fix: Wrong amount of bones was given each morning for upgraded buildings

Golems TD - Matson

At the time of writing this story, it has been 5 years since I released Golems TD. So I decided to play it for a while, to take a look at the steam page and collect my thoughts. 

The project started with an idea to create a unique tower defence where you can design your own golems. I chose 5 core elements as basic building blocks for both towers and golems. Where each element has its counter element. It worked fine but I really wanted to add a hero that the player can control directly.

I had previous experience making games in Unity. Golems TD was my first game made in Unreal Engine 4 so I had to learn a lot before I managed to make it work the way I wanted it to work. Having strong object orient programming thinking really helped me in understanding how Unreal creates game objects. 

Multiplayer. Oh yes, I wanted to add multiplayer. Thank god I did not. Although today I could add multiplayer with confidence of finishing the project. Back then I would not be able to do that. So instead there is an AI opponent in every map and the game is focused on finishing the campaign.

How do I see Golems TD today? The game is quite difficult to understand how to play but I had actual fun playing again (lol, I know it sounds weird). As I progressed through the campaign I noticed that the game is actually challenging and speeding the game to 3x is not always an option because there are a lot of things I had to manage.

Remake, sequel? I thought about remaking the game. I found the original code base but truth be told with today's experience I would remake the whole project as a new project. So it would make sense to create a new game as a sequel. But I think that I will be making different types of games going forward. So I at least updated the Steam store page description and graphics to have some closure.
