🆕 THE UPDATE 🆕

This update has many small but fun features!

First, we added a new set of themes that you can select from. Each one is based on an element in Sandboxels! Below you can see the Brick theme.

Themes include the default Dark, Fire, Juice, Plant, Steam, Water, Plasma, and Snow – which is the equivalent of a light mode.

Additionally, we made the backgrounds of menus translucent, so you can see what’s going on behind them!

We also added a new “Destroyable” border mode, where your canvas is surrounded by a layer of Glass, and greater support for Korean, Italian, Serbian, and Australian English.

Be sure to view the full changelog for technical changes and bug fixes.

🕰️ What’s Next? 🕰️

So far, the Steam release is only a port of Sandboxels. However, the next update will include unique online integrations with Steam, potentially with a Workshop save browser. Once you purchase Sandboxels on Steam, you are guaranteed to receive these features when they launch!

The web version of Sandboxels will continue to receive free updates!

Skye: The Misty Isle - Aurora Game Studios
Greetings, Vikings!

In my ongoing mission to deepen immersion through dynamic systems design, I’m proud to unveil the Lexicon Engine — a proprietary in-game language parsing and translation framework I’ve developed from the ground up in Unreal Engine. Designed for scalability and reuse across multiple projects, Lexicon enables player-driven language discovery, adaptive translation, and runtime text parsing to bring ancient languages to life in richly interactive worlds.

Much like the mechanic in No Man’s Sky, players will encounter ancient texts, scribbled notes, weathered carvings, and forgotten tomes written in one of three initial historical languages: Scottish Gaelic, Latin, and Anglo-Saxon (Old English).

But here’s the twist — you can only speak Old Norse.

Three Ancient Tongues, One Island of Secrets

The island of Skye is steeped in forgotten history and fractured cultures. Across its wild terrain, you’ll discover texts and whispers from a lost world — but they won’t be in modern English. Just like a wayward soul awakening in an unfamiliar land, you’ll encounter these messages untranslated, obscure, and mysterious.

Supported Languages:

  • Scottish Gaelic – Native to the land and woven into druidic knowledge and oral tradition

  • Latin – Found in monastic records, imperial relics, and ritual texts

  • Anglo-Saxon (Old English) – Rare and hidden, often tied to a secretive Catholic Order buried deep beneath the politics of Portree

And yes — Lexicon supports Unreal's full localization toolset. Whether you play the game in German, French, or beyond, the system still functions seamlessly at runtime.

You’ll begin the game unable to understand any of these tongues. But over time, through exploration and observation, you’ll slowly learn to read and comprehend them — word by word.

Learn Through Discovery

You won’t be handed instant translations. Instead, your knowledge of each language is earned and personalized. Here's how you'll piece them together:

  • Find bilingual texts – Discover fragments that pair ancient language with English for comparison
  • Speak to scholars and seers – Earn the trust of NPCs who may offer lessons or phrases
  • Examine carvings and relics – Compare symbols across ruins, tools, and stone monuments
  • Immerse yourself – Frequent reading builds pattern recognition, expanding your dictionary naturally

Every word you learn is permanently remembered by the system. Slowly, passages begin to reveal themselves, unlocking secrets and storylines that were previously hidden.

Whether you’re translating a monastic scroll or deciphering a grave warning etched into stone, Lexicon dynamically parses based on your understanding — showing full, partial, or completely obscured texts depending on your progress.

Why It Matters

This system introduces a whole new layer of depth and meaning to exploration. It rewards the curious and observant. It’s not just about reading — it’s about decoding.

Mastering ancient languages opens new quest paths, hidden lore, and secret locations. Every piece of knowledge you gain changes how you perceive the world around you. In Skye, knowledge is as powerful as steel.

No two players will experience the lore the same way. Your journey is shaped by what you learn — and what you choose to pursue.

That scrawled prayer? It could be a threat. Or a cure. But only if you can understand it.

Behind the Scenes: Smart Parsing

The Lexicon Engine tracks your knowledge across thousands of words in each language. As your dictionary expands, previously unreadable texts unlock new meanings — encouraging you to revisit old locations with fresh eyes.

The system also integrates with the new Player Journal, meaning forgotten stories, mysterious phrases, or undeciphered notes can suddenly become relevant again — and may even reveal new quests.

Closing Thoughts

I truly believe the Lexicon Engine can add something truly special to Skye: Rebirth — a sense of wonder, mystery, and personal growth that reflects the heart of this project.

It’s about earning understanding, not just unlocking content. It’s about the joy of discovery.
Let me know in the comments which language you’re most excited to master — or how you’d like to learn these ancient tongues.

Thanks for being part of this journey. I can’t wait to see the stories you uncover when the Lexicon Engine goes live.

Until then — keep your eyes open, your mind sharp, and your axe close.

Starground - bbgamesbusiness

A brand new dungeon makes its entrance to Starground! In this update, Finders Keepers, players can now explore Tephra, an abandoned planet infested with insects. Alongside the new zone, there's now a whole bunch of added weapon parts, artifacts, enemies, rooms, and more!

Whats New

Tephra

Tephra is a brand new dungeon in Starground! Unlike the lab on Enceladus, Tephra is an entirely new planet that can be completed simultaneously as Enceladus (on multiplayer). As with any new region, this comes alongside a ton of new content, including:
  • Calorus, a brand new boss
  • 5 new enemies to battle
  • New combat rooms
  • New ranged and melee parts
  • New artifacts
This dungeon is the second of the final 4 dungeons planned. As time goes on, new levels will be added onto Tephra (just like the lab on Enceladus). Coming regular updates will continue to add and improve content for Tephra.

Updated Dungeon Visuals

Dungeons in Starground now look better than ever! This update includes some fancy new shaders that procedurally add in moss and dust, alongside new on-screen effects (can be disabled in accessibility settings). These really help liven up the look of dungeons, and ultimately build toward our ultimate vision for how Starground looks.

Puzzle Room

This update also introduces a new type of special dungeon room; puzzle rooms. Dungeons can now contain a new room that requires the correct sequence of buttons to be pressed in order to unlock a vault with powerful loot. As time goes on, we'll have more variety of what kind of puzzles players can solve.

To solve them (can kind of ruin the fun if you know how):
Dungeons now spawn in with numbers and symbols that are randomly scattered around, which will tell you what order to press them in.

New Skins

This update also comes along with some new skins!

3 new "default" skins have been added to form the canon gang of Stargrounders. This includes Guy (default skin), Prichard, Darius, and Sandy. These characters will continue to make appearances in official artwork and other Starground-related things.

Players can now also play as the Lefty skin, based on our publisher Graeme (thanks Graeme!), and a skin from the main character Cyl in the game Picayune Dreams. Huge thanks to its developers, and be sure to check it out!

Thats all for this update gamers! Next up is a brand new automation planet!

If you run into any problems, please report them on the Steam forums, or over on Discord. Enjoy!

Amazing Frog? - fayju

As you may know we were hit by some problems with the Jam Maker update.

In this patch we have made sure that the process for collecting berries and turning them to jam jars was fixed! We wish we could have released it sooner.

Buuuut, sometimes you just have to fix a bunch of stuff at once.
(and it can take some time)

First, we got wrapped up in another major bug - what happens when you eject from the jets or indeed what happens when you crash a jet... ( If you had not noticed it ... it was a bad one )

However, its not just jets that should be able to take to the skies!

Indeed, Pigs will fly!
Since one of the major parts of the Jam Maker update was the Saddle Launcher (If your Jam Maker was working) The saddle logic itself needed some care and attention.

Especially when it comes to using Jet Packs either in saddles or indeed on some bikes.

We still think we need to spend some more time on this part of the control system, but we also think we moved it a big step forward in this patch.

There were other issues that we solved and there are some that we are aware we haven't solved yet. We want to say thanks for all the feedback (and awesome artwork), we try and keep up with everything posted, it's all really very helpful and is going to lead us to leaving Early Access soon.

Buuuut, The saddle logic is actually really dangerous!

I will say though, we had a lot of fun shooting each other with the Saddle Launcher. Even as i write this i am aware that there is a bug where you can continally get Saddle Launchers from the dispencer... gulp.

The saddle logic did send us a down a bit of a rabbit hole, especially when thinking about how to control a shark... we ended up following a path that had not expected to engage with so soon . Luckily it will yield a new update pretty quickly.

This image should give you some idea of what we aaaaaaare currently wrapped up in.

Ironscale has Entered the Dungeon
Deep within the dungeon’s scorching depths, Ironscale, the fire dragon, stands as a fearsome guardian. Once a majestic creature of the volcanic wilds, it was enslaved by the Countess’s dark magic to protect her lair.

With iron-hard scales and a breath of searing flame, Ironscale is more than a brute force—it’s a cunning foe that thrives on chaos, using fiery meteors and bone-shaking roars to split adventurers apart.

In a game where unity is everything, this dragon tests the core rule: never split the party. Only through teamwork and resolve can heroes hope to defeat it and press on toward the Countess.
