Stoneshard - Wayfinder

Hello everyone!

Today, we are excited to present the updated 2025 Roadmap for Stoneshard. But before diving into the details, we'd like to take a brief look back at the development of “Rags to Riches”.

“Rags to Riches” was a major success for our team. That update brought the highest number of players since the game's Early Access launch, received a wealth of positive feedback, and showed a significant increase in engagement compared to previous releases. We are incredibly grateful for this warm reception and hope that future content will continue to meet your expectations.

However, as many of you may remember, the development of “Rags to Riches” proved to be long and arduous. While the complexity of the new features played a major role in it, we also had to devote significant effort to extensive reworks of many existing systems to ensure the seamless integration of all the planned content.

It wasn't uncommon for the development of one system to necessitate changes in several others, sometimes to the point of adding new systems altogether. Splitting these changes and additions across multiple updates or postponing them wasn't really an option, as certain core elements like the Caravan, reworked Contracts, Dungeons, the World Map, and numerous smaller but technically crucial features are all deeply interconnected. This quickly turned into a true Gordian knot of conditions and dependencies. Untangling it took a great deal of time, ultimately leading to the substantial delay of that patch compared to previous ones.

Fortunately, now that we have added one of the last truly large and comprehensive systems - the Caravan - we hope to release future updates more regularly. Unlike “Rags to Riches”, the remaining mechanics and content follow a fairly modular structure.

To sum it up, we aim for smaller but more frequent patches. Our new Roadmap reflects this change as well, moving away from massive, standalone updates in favor of parallel content development, which will be divided into smaller releases (don't worry - they'll still have names).

Because of this, the “Venom in the Waters” update, which was previously planned as the next major patch, has been postponed. Some of its features have been redistributed into other content blocks, since such a heavily thematic patch would have taken an unreasonably long time to develop.

So, what's next for Stoneshard?

Full size
  • The first order of business is Caves. This new location type is designed to add variety to world exploration - unlike usual Dungeons, Caves won't be strictly tied to one faction, will boast more diverse visuals, and can be home to a wide range of enemies and dangers, including unique ones.

It's worth noting that Caves won't be used for Contracts. Instead, they will play a key role in the reworked Task System, which we plan to introduce in one of the future patches.
  • The rest of the planned features include a new school of spatial magic - Arcanistics, new quests, more Caravan Events, and the elimination of gaps in gear progression that emerged after transitioning to the tier-based system.
  • We also plan to revamp the Psyche System, reworking both the existing Psyche States and the core mechanic as a whole. Our main goal is to make the entirety of it much more interactive and immersive.
  • And finally, something many of you have long been waiting for: we are officially beginning work on the Character Creator. We have plenty of ideas and concepts for how this system should function (the recent overhaul of Character Traits should serve as a small teaser for the direction we're taking). Combined with the Trait System, this will be an incredibly complex and resource-intensive task, making it difficult to predict an exact timeline - all we can say is that it will be released once we're certain it's ready.

That's all for now. Once again, we want to thank all of you for your support and trust. Stay tuned, and we'll see you soon in the world of Aldor!

◆Update 13.0.4178◆

DLC Spotlight: Knights of Cross and Rose

We will be launching our Season Ten update alongside our newest expansion, Knights of Cross and Rose! This DLC features new variant civilizations for the French and English, as well as a new game mode and ten maps.

Variant Civilization: Knights Templar
The Knights Templar are making their debut as a new variant civilization for the French. Founded with the goal to protect pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land, the Templars became renowned for their financial sophistication and defensive fortresses in the Levant. We aimed to highlight their cultural and military excellence through unique, highly flexible gameplay.

The Knights Templar do not progress to the next age when a landmark is built, but rather age up with Town Centers. This allows them to select one of three Templar Commanderies per age, each providing their own set of powerful unique units and features. For example, players can select the Kingdom of Poland for a tanky Heavy Cavalry unit and a massive boost to Cavalry charge damage, or the Knights Hospitaller for a new Man-At-Arms variant and a civilization-wide boost to economic unit heath and healing received.

This variant civilization foregoes the French’s standard Trade Economy trait in favor of the new Pilgrimage trait. Instead of relying on Traders for gold generation, the Knights Templar gain gold by sending Pilgrims to Sacred Sites. In addition to this, they also reveal all Sacred Sites at the start of the game, so be sure to use this extra intel to plan out your pilgrimages!

This only scratches the surface of the many tricks the Knights Templar have up their sleeves, and we are beyond excited for Knights of Cross and Rose players to maximize their potential. The Knights Templar’s creative, game-bending playstyle not only shakes up established gameplay norms, but brings the rich history of one of France’s most renowned military orders to life.

Variant Civilization: House of Lancaster
Fearless combatants in the Wars of the Roses, the House of Lancaster established themselves as Europe’s most dominant military force after winning the famous battle of Agincourt against the French. The House of Lancaster variant civilization showcases their undeniable military capability while also providing a streamlined, intuitive gameplay experience.

The House of Lancaster’s notorious prowess at range is well illustrated through their unique units. The variant civilization replaces the Longbowman with the all-new Yeoman unit. Not only is the Yeoman stronger and more mobile than your average archer, they can also rain down a volley of arrows with their unique Synchronized Shot ability. We all know it can be a delicate art balancing your army’s survivability with enough range to whittle down the enemy. However, you can have the best of both worlds with the House of Lancaster’s Earl’s Guard unit! This unique Man-At-Arms possesses the bulk and power you’d expect from a Heavy Infantry unit, but can also toss daggers at range to deal huge burst damage.

In addition to its powerful military units, the House of Lancaster gains several new traits that help players amass a veritable horde of resources. The Wool Industries trait grants players free sheep when a Town Center is built and allows villagers to gather from sheep faster. Additionally, players can construct several Manors throughout the game, providing the House of Lancaster a consistent stream of gold for each one built. The Manor’s abilities only grow as new unique Technologies are unlocked.

The House of Lancaster will provide a familiar, comfortable gameplay experience for Age of Empires IV players while also offering a bevy of unique traits to keep things fresh. We think this new variant civilization will be a favorite for new and old fans alike!

Game Mode: Historical Battles
In the Knights of Cross and Rose expansion, players can dive into four new single player Historical Battles. Unlike the more narrative-centric campaigns, these scenarios focus on key moments throughout the history of the Knights Templar and the House of Lancaster. By narrowing our scope to singular, larger-than-life battles, we are able to provide an even richer historical experience than Age of Empires IV players have seen before!

In contrast to previous game modes, players are scored and ranked based on their performance during each Historical Battle rather than solely on their ability to secure a victory. Each battle is filled with secrets and traps for players to uncover, which can significantly affect their final score. Players can explore the intricacies of each map and use their discoveries to improve future playthroughs. Historical Battles are designed to be more than a one-time experience – we want players to feel compelled to attempt them time and time again!

While it can be tempting to focus exclusively on capturing them, your opponents can capture them back to steal the benefits. No Mercy 🔞 - adultzeratgames
Hey!

I just finished two new scenes for patch 1.1. One will be an alternative version of an existing scene, while the other is a scene I originally cut from the base version of the game and never included. It introduces a new character to the game — I'm curious to see how you'll like her, as I wanted her to be the "most ordinary character" you can encounter, and... well, it's No Mercy, so you'll see for yourselves. If it’s well-received, content with this character will be expanded in patch 1.2.

Now, I just need to look at the endings, expand them, and if there's time, there will definitely be something extra added too.

By the way, I managed to finish a mini guide that will help you unlock all the scenes and achievements. It took a bit longer because the Steam content verification system was blocking me from creating the guide after EVERY edit/save.

Enjoy the game, and see you at patch 1.1, which will be released around late April/early May!
