Daniel Keating, our composer, did a great job of finding a style that is dynamic during gameplay and reminiscent of JRPG games like Final Fantasy. We couldn't be more pleased with the results.
Hi yall, for this past month I've mostly been bug testing and retooling a certain part of the game: The LocalBuzz Flashback Scene. As shown in the Demo, LocalBuzz as a company and location will be very important to the story of Wintertwined, though I won't tell to what extent yet.
I had already done a lot of work on this particular part of the game in 2023, though I had to change it quite a bit, because of the scene that was added to the demo. The scene in the demo establishes a few things that were initially set up in this part of the game, but with this scene added, I could now focus on developing the story further. I removed some elements, added a few and rewrote scenes to better fit the narrative. This part of the game has multiple important moments that will influence the ending. This part can last anywhere from 3 minutes, to over half an hour, depending on how thorough you are and what kind of ending you’re aiming for.
A small setback I faced with this part was a puzzle that had a weird bug. It’s a portion where Winter sneaks around a warehouse and has to avoid being spotted by the cameras. Sometimes, at random, the cameras would detect Winter, even if they weren’t in view at all. Luckily I managed to fix it, it just took 4 hours, yay game dev life.
As it stands, this part is 100% playable, but about 90% actually finished. I want to include more NPC’s to talk to and there’s no music for this section yet. For now, I’ll set this part aside and focus on finishing the next part, which is the “Cave” segment. This part will have a far, far darker atmosphere and is the part of the game where the horror ramps up dramatically, more on that in the next update (hopefully!)
