Alchemist Shop Simulator - Mrochi81
Scholars!
We're happy to announce that the development of our magical and cozy retail management sim, Alchemist Shop Simulator, has come to a conclusion and there's only a bit over 2 weeks of wait before the FULL release (that's right - no Early Access).

We aimed to expand and improve on the popular concept of shop management games by giving it some more immersive mechanics (like potion brewing, gardening, little story-quests) and a vibrant, funny, fantastical world. We'd love to hear from you - did we succeed?

For the last several months lots of Steam players tried the demo (currently enjoying 100% positive rating!) and provided us with feedback. Some content creators who already got their hands on on the full game preview copies have been in touch with us as well. Thanks to all the amazing people who played the game and took their time to give us their thoughts we've been able to improve on the initial state of the game immensely. We'll be launching a far superior game to what we originally had in mind - all thanks to the wonderful community of Steam players.

This also called for...

Next Fest Demo update!

The Alchemist Shop Simulator Demo has undergone an extensive revamp as well. What everyone will play now, at Steam Next Fest is fully representative of the current state of the full game, so you can have a real taste of the alchemist's world and life in magical retail. Just mind the fact that the demo will be going away soon after the Next Fest ends (but probably not immediately).

Please enjoy the demo and remember to wishlist the full game, so we can remind you when it launches. This will additionally benefit you because we do plan to run a release-week discount for the game (which will be regularly priced at $11.99).

More retail sims incoming!

Upon completion of our Alchemist Shop Simulator, Kool2Play now puts its focus on its tropical follow up - Pirate Cove Simulator. No worries - this doesn't mean we're not planning on updating Alchemist Shop Simulator. On the contrary - we look forward to all the post-release feedback, as it will give us opportunity to improve and expand BOTH of the games.

Pirate Cove Simulator will be getting its own demo soon - no later than April - when we're satisfied that it includes everything we've learned during and soon after the launch of its predecessor.

If you do enjoy retail sims, and would like to take a shot at breaking the curse of the Island of the Damned, and trading your way out of the pirate afterlife - you can already wishlist Pirate Cove Simulator:

That's it from us today! We hope you'll enjoy the Alchemist Shop Simulator demo and join us for its FULL LAUNCH on March 11.

Get brewing!

Yours,
Kool2Play Team

All Whispering Tome - Fifth Rubric
About the Design of the Game

We enjoy developing non-linear games. This is the general idea behind all our games.

For "All Whispering Tome," our goal was to create a game that could be both easy and challenging. To achieve this, we defined our game as a "clue-based, non-linear exploration game," and in the process we found that "Metroidvania" encompasses these aspects.

"Metroidvania focuses on exploration of large, non-linear, connected worlds. These worlds can be unlocked and traversed by discovering hidden keys or clues and often require the player to traverse them multiple times during the game."

This definition of Metroidvania guides the development of this game. Our world is mapped by words and interconnected by all of their possible meanings. This game is about exploring this world through each story, word by word.

This was our approach. While opinions may differ, we believe that a "clue-based, non-linear exploration game" is at the core of Metroidvania, and we can realize this with words.

We welcome suggestions for other tags that might better encompass this concept.

Sequence of Ideation

Extremely simplified unordered summary of our ideation process

"3D games also count as Metroidvania. Going 4D might be an extension of the genre. Managing both space and time would be too complex and potentially unworkable. However, 1D is another possibility. Overlapping or parallel number lines might work but wouldn't be entertaining. Defining a 1D map can only be done with words and is well-suited to our talents. For the action, we should consider solutions that can be implemented primarily with words, perhaps maps."

A Note about the Demo

The current demo doesn't seem to effectively convey the game's core as a "clue-based, non-linear exploration game." We initially intended the demo to showcase our narration style. Given our proximity to release, hasty changes to the demo might not be ideal. We will port some features from the main game to the demo as quickly as possible after release.

The updated demo will allow you to better understand the game and then you may decide.

Given these circumstances, we may need to reconsider our approach to the genre and develop a solution that doesn't reveal too much too early, but better conveys the game experience we offer, both in the main game and the demo.

This way, we might justifiably earn the Metroidvania tag.

We removed Metroidvania tag until that time.

In the meantime, take your time, immerse yourself in the stories, and enjoy.

Best Regards,

Beşinci Kural Team
