Hank: Drowning On Dry Land - jaroddjl

I like games and music.
You'd probably say "wow, it's like... 99% of the world population". Nah, I LIKE, LIKE games and music. I enjoy them so much, I even decided to make my own games. Aaaaand, you know, it's been... tough (!), but I didn't quit (yet) and instead, I sat over my desk and thought... and thought, and thought again, AND THEN I got to the idea of making my own superhero series! Listen, I love Batman, alright? Hell, who doesn’t love Batman! I was always watching new episodes of Batman Beyond as a kid and those are the best memories of my childhood.

So together with my friend Witek, we decided to really dedicate ourselves to that project and firstly - we made a free game called Hank: Straightjacket. It was… quite nice, but it was tiny, so the next step was to create something bigger, greater, more exciting and world changing (yeah I’m exaggerating a bit). The thing was - we didn’t know how to make it more… I don’t know, distinctive? iconic? So… we made a song!

Designing characters
But at first we had to design the characters - our main guy is Hank. He’s not your typical superhero with lots of money or a pretty face, in fact, he’s an alcoholic who many years ago was a master in street fighting at an underground arena. But one day his entire life fell off, he got drunk to death and when he woke up with a crazy hangover, he realised that he came in possession of a time travelling superpowers. There’s also his nemesis, Unraveler, the greatest illusionist this world has known, and many other characters but I won’t spoil too much, y-you have to try my game to learn more!

But yeah, that’s basically the game, Unraveler poisoned Hank and took him into his world of illusion and now Hank has to escape, that’s the plot of Hank: Drowning On Dry Land. And although we know that all of this is cool and fun, we felt like there’s something missing. So we went back to watching Batman: Beyond, watched all the episodes for 10 times each and… nothing. We were slamming our heads against the wall and couldn’t come with the answer to our question: what is missing? And after days and nights with no sleep, tired and absolutely depressed, IN JUST ONE MOMENT we looked at eachother with Witek with that spark in our eyes and both said: THE SONG!

The song
That was it! Every superhero has a theme song! And Hank also has to have one! We found the band that we thought would perfectly match the rock aesthetic we had in mind, guys are called Cinemon (you can check them out if you want) and we all were super excited to collaborate, so… we started working on it. It wasn’t a quick process, but let me tell you, the final result exceeded our wildest expectations. This raw, rock, grunge aesthetic is exactly what we were looking for.

The full song is already available at Cinemon’s youtube channel with a dedicated lyric video, you’ll find a link to it a bit higher in this article, a link to Hank: Drowning On Dry Land game on Steam is below. Go check it out, aaaand see you… in the nightmares!
