This all started when I foolishly entered a game jam sometime mid-2023 and I decided to challenge myself by learning a new engine (Godot) and language (GDScript) at the same time. The ā€œgameā€ I built, dubbed ā€œElectro Havocā€, was inspired by the Geometry Wars easter egg minigame in the Project Gotham Racing 2 game for the OG Xbox back in 2003. When I stumbled on it back then (and rediscovered the sequel more recently on Steam), I was hooked on the simplistic yet satisfying game loop, rockin’ soundtrack and retro aesthetic. Shockingly, I managed to score second (of four submissions…) in best use of graphics and audio and dead last for the other voting categories.

Here’s a preview of what I built in ~2 hours in Godot 3.5.2 some years ago:



So as you can see, it was a looong ways away from an actual game loop but it was demonstrative of what I had in my head (a scary thought). The prompt for the game jam was ā€œchain reactionā€ and I had intended for the enemy explosions to generate splash damage and destroy other enemies… but couldn’t get it working in the time allotted.

After much irl got in the way, I decided to pick the project back up and see if I could deliver on my original vision. So much time had passed that Godot 4.2 was released since I was last in the editor, and thankfully, some of the major bugs I was running into had been fixed, namely support for 2D navigation mesh baking so enemies would no longer get stuck on the edges of a tilemap (seen in the video above).

Fast forward many more months, countless bugs, and much anxiety, I'm ready to open up my first indie game to the onslaught (and love!) that is the Steam community. I'd very much appreciate any constructive feedback you may have before I open up for early access next month sometime before the Game Developers Conference (GDC) on Mar-17.

I know the game could benefit from more enemies, diverse attack patterns, new level designs, and more power-ups but I'm really like your feedback on how the game feels and whether it's addictive and fun. That sentiment will provide the encouragement I need to continue experimenting and investing in it.

  • Regarding the Test Version
Many players have questioned the test version, thinking it’s an Early Access (EA) version. Let me clarify: Psychic Kung Fu Master's test version is not an EA version, it’s a Playtest version.
The goal of the playtest is to establish the game's tone, evaluate the art style, and check the overall presentation. We will make additions, adjustments, and improvements based on your feedback.

  • Regarding the Test and Demo Time
Many players have been asking about the test period, but I’ve hesitated to provide an answer. The original schedule was before the New Year, but after receiving valuable feedback, we decided to rework some resources to improve the overall quality of the game, which caused a delay.
Due to time and personnel limitations, the early test version may not showcase all content.
We will optimize features based on priority, and we truly appreciate the patience of everyone waiting.
The test version is now expected around mid-March. Apologies for the delay!
  • Regarding the Mobile Version
Some players have asked if there will be a mobile version. The initial release of Psychic Kung Fu Master will be on the PC version via Steam. There is no mobile version currently available.

Worldview and Setting:

One of the major factions in Psychic Kung Fu Master is the Dragon Cult (č±¢é¾™ä¼š).
The Dragon Cult is formed by officials from the wealthy regions of Jiangnan,
who come together under the leadership of Prince Fu. They have created two groups: one called the Donglin Scholars' Association (äøœęž—å„’ē”Ÿä¼š), made up of Jiangnan's clans.
They control the nation's economic lifeblood, financial power, and half of the officials in the court.
In the Jianghu,
they joined forces with Fang Tieshan to form a faction that consolidates power by controlling local warlords and executing tasks such as assassinations, robberies, and intelligence gathering. This unified force is known as the Dragon Cult.

The Dragon Cult controls dozens of smaller factions in various industries, such as shipping, martial arts schools, escort agencies, bandit leaders, and intelligence organizations.
The martial arts skills in these factions are diverse and varied.
They also control numerous officials and some military forces in the court, creating a complex and intricate power structure.

In addition to the Dragon Sect, there are a dozen or so neutral factions that, due to regional or factional issues, are unwilling to have any dealings with the court.

Fang Tieshan Introduction:
Fang Tieshan is the heir to the Fang Xin Martial Arts School. He was originally just an apprentice but, due to his extraordinary martial arts talent, he rose from basic techniques to the highest level of mastery.
Later, he improved the martial arts techniques of his school, advancing even further.

After reaching the top level of martial arts, Fang Tieshan gained fame, and his martial arts schools spread across the land, quietly positioning themselves as one of the most powerful schools in the Central Plains.

Though his reputation as a hero precedes him, his true desire is for power.
He collaborated with the Donglin Scholars' Association and formed the Dragon Cult with the intention of overthrowing the emperor and taking the throne for himself.

Hi Everyone,
I've been working hard at ironing out bugs & adding a bunch of polish to the demo. I'm calling this a pre-build for Steam Next Fest as there are still a couple small changes I wish to add before the release date of next fest. But the press event is open to the public so I may as well provide the update now and do a minor match once the 24th of February roles around.

As always, I look forward to seeing you guys play the game and whatever feedback you have.

Changes Available In Demo
  • 20 new spells for your party members have been added to the game via spell books. This brings the total up to 42 spells for you to discover and equip your party with.
  • An opening cinematic with professional voice acting has been added
  • The Fighter, Corsair, Cleric, Berserker and Druid now have unique models

  • The skeletons have had their models updated and have a variety of animations
  • An animation for enemies and party members being stunned has been added
  • Party Members and Enemies now have glowing hand effects when they cast spells

  • Major shader compilation improvements (still improving this)
  • All UI elements should now have sounds when you interact with them
  • Improvements to sorting through spells in the spell book
  • Crits from heals are now more obvious with an additional yellow outline

  • A new book is now available in the town's library to show you what NPC spells exist
  • A blue mist effect will inhabit the corners of your screen if you are out of mana
  • The overworld has had new models and visual effects added
  • The shop now has an animation for buying items
  • Party members should now cycle through a variety of hurt sounds when they take damage
  • Tips will now appear on loading screens when you are descending down a dungeon
  • You can now adjust the tonemap exposer under the brightness setting

Skill Legends Royale - 无语
Dear Fighters,
At the start of the next season (2025.03.03, UTC+8 10:00), we will make the following adjustments to the Royale Pass system:

Ranked Matches and Pass System Separation
After the separation, Ranked Matches (Royale Pass) and the Pass (Season Handbook) will no longer affect each other, and the Season Handbook will no longer deduct points.

Season Duration Adjustment
The season duration will be shortened from two months to one month. The length of the Season Handbook and the Royale Pass rank requirements will be adjusted according to the one-month cycle.

Pass Price Adjustment
The price of the Advanced Pass will be reduced from 480 Diamonds to 300 Diamonds.

Advanced Pass Reward Adjustment
The final reward for the Advanced Pass channel will no longer include an Advanced Pass ticket.

Compensation Details: At the end of this season, players who have reached the Supreme King rank in Royale Pass and have activated the Advanced Pass channel will retain the Season Handbook Perpetual Privilege. Players with this privilege will continue to receive Advanced Pass tickets in subsequent seasons if they activate the Advanced Pass channel and reach the Supreme King rank; otherwise, the privilege will be suspended.

Adjustment Intentions:
The original intention of the Pass Perpetual Mechanism was to provide benefits to our loyal players. However, we also realized that this mechanism might bind player activity, making the originally casual gaming experience less relaxed. Based on these considerations, we have decided to make these adjustments, hoping to bring a freer and more enjoyable gaming experience to everyone.
