1. Fixed an issue where the main light → depth of field toggle was incorrect, causing the sky rotation and dust slider to be locked.

2. Fixed a bug where feeding food caused hotkeys to become unresponsive.
End of Ember - badplanstudios
Hello community - and wow, it’s hard to believe that it’s been four months since we launched our Steam page! Our big news this time is that we have just presented End of Ember at the South Australian Games Exhibiton (SAGE), the premier event for SA gamers and studios. It was rad!

We were so lucky to be in the company of many talented and hardworking studios. Check out all the great games that were on show (and skip to 1:13 for the obvious best one!):



One of the most exciting things was being featured in a Steam sale for the event, check it out!



Our Steam wishlist count smashed through the 500 mark over SAGE (we are now at 563!) - thanks to everyone who has shown us support in this way! Even better, we hear via the excellent folks at GameDiscoverCo that the game's 'hype score' has almost doubled (to a still-modest 21, haha) in the past week, meaning that there is some kind of action happening for us on Steam.



Bluesky continues to be a great place for us to hang out, connect with other folks in the gamedev and gaming community, and share info and updates on the state of the game. We are now SO CLOSE to 1000 followers, and if you haven’t checked it out yet we recommend you join up to see what it’s like to curate your own algorithm and actually see what is being posted by people you followed. Come party like it’s Twitter in 2012.





This is the big one for us this time: our SAGE build is the first time we have shown this new Unity project to the public. We are ambitious about the experience and level of quality we want to deliver to players, and Dan and Eli worked really hard to make the game as good as it could be. Most people really enjoyed it, and we were quite encouraged by some compliments from senior industry figures too. One player summed up the experience very well: 'It's disgusting. I love it!'

While it sure was great to have IRL players enjoy the game we know that not everyone could make it there, so we are pleased to make the build available via Itch.io:

We are now working on a few refinements to the current state of the game before building in the hub world and beginning to design and build the 'digging gameplay', the second main loop of the game where Ember uses her chainsaw to dig her way out of Hell. Bad Plan Studios is still just running along like a deranged three-legged dog. SAGE was a great opportunity to hang out together, celebrate the game, and share it with others. We are now extra motivated and are looking towards showcasing at AVCon and maybe even PAX Australia and South by Southwest Sydney!

  • Moved an important explanation about "Bodypaint" in Chapter 3 to a main storyline event that is guaranteed to trigger.
  • Added a "sparkling" effect to certain main storyline investigation points that are easy to overlook.

  • Fixed the game's physics detection to reduce the issue of the protagonist falling through the ground.

  • Fixed an issue in Chapter 4 where investigating the lobby in a specific sequence before a debate could cause character display errors.

Here are the results of the crackdown on abusive users carried out between 2/7 (Fri) – 2/13 (Thu).

We're inspecting abusive gaming behavior to ensure that all Descendants can enjoy the game in a pleasant environment.
If you notice any abnormal or abusive behavior while playing, please report it through the in-game report feature.

■ Crackdown status
- Crackdown period: 2025.2.7(Fri) – 2025.2.13(Thu) PST

■ Creation, distribution, or use of unauthorized programs - Permanent game ban (15 users)
- Actions have been taken for creating, distributing, or using unauthorized programs.


■ Exploitation of all processes related to the Open Store – Permanent game ban (11 users)
- Actions were taken because of unfair gains by exploitation on store payment process.


■ Interfering with other user's gameplay – 3-day separate matchmaking penalty (286 users)
- A history of repeated interference with other Descendants' gameplay has been confirmed and action has been taken in accordance with the Operation Policy.



■ Notes
- The outcome of the crackdown on abusive users includes enforcement actions taken based on Descendant’s reports and monitoring.
