Today, we released a Regular Update packed with new features, quality-of-life improvements, and a large number of fixes.

This update introduces new trading mechanics, enhanced electricity management, and UI refinements to improve your gameplay experience. Traders missions can be completed directly in the trading post UI now, and resource flow calculations have been improved. Electricity management sees major upgrades, including power poles that can now be built on streets and better visualization of the energy network. The camera system has been refined, with zooming via keyboard and smoother fixed-camera movements.

We’ve also addressed a variety of bugs across expeditions, buildings, vehicles, and UI elements, improving overall stability. Tweaks to settler behaviors, trade routes, and statistics ensure a smoother and more intuitive gameplay experience.

  • Camera: Added subtle mouse-position-based camera movement for all fixed camera positions (e.g., main menu, trading posts, and expeditions).
  • Camera: The camera can now be zoomed using the keyboard.
  • Electricity: Power poles can now be built on streets.
  • Traders: Resource per minute calculations now correctly account for goods transferred via trade routes.
  • Traders: Trader missions can now be completed directly in the trading post UI.

  • Buildings: Fixed several issues with the grid shader.
  • Buildings: Fixed stuck vehicle workshop.

  • Expeditions: Fixed an issue where the explorer could glitch through lootable boxes in the scrapyard.
  • Expeditions: Fixed an issue where the explorer could glitch through the wheels of a buggy in the endzone POI.

X4: Foundations - belgoray
If you’ve seen our Xmas card and the roadmap for the near- to mid-term future of X4: Foundations, then you might already have a pretty good idea of what new content is coming to X4 this quarter. But now, it’s time to make it official and end the suspense!

Our next DLC for X4: Foundations will be titled X4: Hyperion Pack, and as previously mentioned in our roadmap news, it will be "more compact than previous X4 expansions." As the name suggests, the X4: Hyperion Pack will focus on bringing the Hyperion ship into X4 – one of the most frequently requested ships from the community. Alongside this, additional new content will be introduced, which we outline below and on the X4: Hyperion Pack Steam page (make sure to wishlist it, please - it helps us a lot with visibility on Steam!).

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3419300/X4_Hyperion_Pack/

Depending on the success of this first "Mini DLC," we plan to follow up with similarly sized DLCs to accompany future free base game updates. As outlined in our roadmap news, our primary focus in 2025 is on delivering consistent and impactful improvements to the base game. As in the past, these base game updates will be free for all existing X4 players, while purchases of the Mini DLC, such as the X4: Hyperion Pack, will support ongoing development.

Thank you for your continued support and loyalty to X4: Foundations. We still have plenty of exciting plans for the game, and we’re looking forward to another thrilling year with all of you.

What can I look forward to in the X4: Hyperion Pack?

The X4: Hyperion Pack expands the universe of X4: Foundations with:

  • The legendary Hyperion Expeditionary Ship
  • A new mission chain to discover and unlock the Hyperion
  • A new gamestart, granting immediate access to the Hyperion if you prefer to jump into the new ship straight away
  • A brand new sector, waiting to be explored in the Open Universe
  • New music tracks that enrich the X4 soundtrack, elevating your auditory space journey
Rediscover a Legend
The Hyperion is back, reimagined and ready to leave its mark on the universe once more! This iconic ship introduces an exciting new ship classification: the Expeditionary class. Seamlessly blending raw power, agility, and a compact yet versatile design, the Hyperion captures the essence of the Paranid like never before.

A New Class of Power and Agility
The Hyperion redefines the limits of what a capital ship can achieve. Despite its classification as an L-class ship, it stands out with its sleek, lightweight frame and unparalleled manoeuvrability. Slightly larger than a frigate, this unique ship punches above its weight class by combining heavy-duty large (L) equipment with an exceptionally small target signature. Its capabilities include:

  • Six main gun mounts, designed for devastating offensive capabilities
  • M-sized turrets, offering robust defensive coverage
  • L-class shielding and engines, delivering superior durability and mobility in a remarkably compact frame
  • Enhanced missile capacity, ensuring sustained firepower in prolonged engagements
Its agility and firepower make it an ideal choice for daring solo operations or engaging in high-stakes battles, provided there's room to leverage its impressive manoeuvrability. The Hyperion also comes equipped with a single docking bay, capable of accommodating and repairing up to two S-class ships, adding logistical and strategic flexibility to your missions.

New Adventures Await
The Hyperion isn't just a ship - it's a symbol of innovation and adaptability. With features like repair and resupply capabilities for docked ships, above-average cargo capacity for a combat ship, and a crew complement well-suited to boarding operations, this ship thrives in the hands of skilled pilots. Whether you're navigating dangerous trade routes, engaging in piracy, or leading fleets into uncharted territory, the Hyperion is your ultimate companion.

Prepare to command a legend. Are you ready to reshape your destiny in the universe of X4: Foundations?

Burder - minimus76
Hi!

Around May 2023, the very first version of Burder's demo was released. It was an important milestone for me, because at the time, I had already spent 3 years working on this project during my free time (being a web dev to pay the bills). So I was very relieved to finally "let it go" and move on the next areas of the game.

I went to a few gamedev events where I live, near Paris, France, to meet other gamedevs and share about our experiences. I did receive some feedback back then, which helped me a lot to understand where my game was lacking, what aspects were more frustrating than what "normal game design" should allow!

Burder being a (narrative, but also) puzzle game, I saw that some of my puzzles were kinda confusing in the way they presented themselves. I even noticed that a specific puzzle was solved by several players in a way that was totally unexpected for me, and was really a bug.

I learnt that, in puzzles, the more you "confine" the player in indicative restrictions, the clearer the path to the solution will be. My puzzle presentation was probably too vague.

---

Anyway, enough about 2023. After receiving such feedback, I spent a part of 2023, and the entirety of 2024 improving the demo:

- First on "fixing" what I considered to be relevant feedback, genuine game design issues with my game.

- Then I improved some visual aspects of the game, parts I wasn't a fan of, like dialogues' faces. I also added more animated stuff in the backgrounds, particles, etc, to make the world feel more alive. I also added some lore parts, especially the "opening visual novel sequence" (for those that aren't into VN at all, I promise the VN parts will remain short and rare in Burder)

- Finally, my biggest task for this new demo: making the game's music! I had no background regarding music theory or any practice of an instrument. I still can't use a piano or a guitar even if I own some in my apartment, but I spent the first half of 2024 learning music theory, sound design, and the use of a DAW. So all of the music you hear in this new demo is from me. It sure sounds less professional than the license-free music I had in place, but for this first game I'm making, I really wanted to be a "jack of all trades" in order to learn all aspects that surround the act of making a game, and have a better understanding of the whole process. After that, even though I took a real interest in drawing illustrations or composing music, I can more clearly see that for my next projects, I would ideally be accompanied by an audio artist, a graphic designer, and maybe a fellow developer. And focus myself more on what I estimate are my own fields : programming and writing (I still need to keep practicing that one)

---

So this is it, Demo Version 2 of Burder should now be live on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux. I hope you enjoy it if you give it a try, and feel free to contact me on Twitter, Blusky or my Discord server (more deserted than the Sahara for now) if you have any feedback to give!

JDM: Japanese Drift Master - livia
Ossu,

As the full version of JDM: Japanese Drift Master approaches, big changes are on the horizon. The final round of JDM Champions is here, but before we crown the last winners, it's time to bid farewell to the beloved prologue demo—JDM: Rise of the Scorpion.

With the release date announcement, you got a first look at the gameplay, captured directly from the latest build of the full version, and can see firsthand how the project has evolved since. We've put so much work into JDM: Japanese Drift Master that we feel the prologue-demo from August 2024 no longer represents the current state and quality of the game.

We’ve gathered valuable feedback from JDM: Rise of the Scorpion players, which has been a key motivation in making the full version an even bigger and better experience for everyone. Here are a few key factors that led to our decision to close the prologue-demo.

Visual Fidelity
We’ve updated the engine to Unreal Engine 5 significantly improving lighting, reflections, shadows, and overall visual quality. We’re working hard to eliminate ghosting and other visual issues, which were present in the demo. JDM: Japanese Drift Master will meet and exceed the visual standards of a 2025 release.

Unreal Engine 5
Upgrading to UE5 has brought performance improvements and better game optimization, giving us more tools to fine-tune the experience for PC players. The process is still ongoing but the progress so far has been phenomenal. We’re committed to delivering a well-polished product on launch.

Game Physics
We’ve also refined the driving experience based on your valuable feedback. While driving physics can be subjective, we’ve focused on enhancing the overall feel of the cars on the road while expanding the functionality of driving assists. Our goal is to create the ultimate simcade experience—a perfect balance where both sim-racing enthusiasts and casual players can enjoy a rewarding challenge and pure driving fun!

Binding System
We've been testing steering wheels, pedals, shifters, and handbrakes from various manufacturers. From industry giants like Logitech G and Thrustmaster to lesser-known brands and generic controllers, our goal is to make as many devices as possible plug-and-play at launch. At the same time, we're enhancing our custom binding system, ensuring that even if we miss a device, you'll still be able to race seamlessly.

With all the improvements we’ve made, demo-prologue JDM: Rise of the Scorpion no longer reflects the quality of the full game which will be a significantly enhanced experience in comparison. As a result, we’ll be shutting it down on Monday, February 3rd at 3:00 p.m. CET, in preparation for the official launch of JDM: Japanese Drift Master on March 26th.

Before we say goodbye, let’s crown:

🏆 The Final JDM Champions for January 2025 🏆

This month the first two positions in the table were deliberately skipped, as Hikkoid was our Drift champion and Jujudu0612 our Grip champion in December. Both have already secured their place in the Hall of Fame.

Drift Challenge:
  • jujudu0612 with an impressive score of 421918.

Grip Challenge:
  • Simgii with a blazing time of 03: 20: 101.

Congratulations to our Champions! If you’d like to join the Discord Hall of Fame, hop into our server and reach out to our community manager, Julian. You will only need a Discord account connected to your Steam account so we can confirm your Steam ID.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master launches on March 26th, 2025! If it’s already on your wishlist, don’t forget to hit the ‘Follow’ button on our Steam page to stay updated on all the exciting reveals. We know the hype is real, so tell us in the comments: would you like to see a similar challenge in the full version of the game? Remember to join our Discord community and connect with fellow drift enthusiasts! Let’s gear up for launch day together!
