Fragmented City - Máté
Long time, no devlog. The last third of 2024 was pretty rough over here, and the development of Fragmented City was pretty much put on pause since the second half of October - but I'd like to emphasize that I still haven't given up on this project, and will make sure to continue the development in 2025!

Those who follow me on Twitter, or Discord probably know that a serious data loss happened in late April (3 months of work got completely lost) and recovering from it was the toughest work I'd ever had as a video game developer. Some minor details are still missing, and there might be some bugs, but luckily I was not only able to overcome the data loss, but continue the work further.

I still publish devlogs in the Crow Bar Discord server, but since not everyone is there, here is a list showcasing some of the more exciting features I've been working on:


The Kingfisher Valley hub has been coming together nicely. I managed to add new locations, details and polish the level geometry.



One of the new NPCs in this hub can give you different sidequests (in case your morale is low, otherwise he will send you away).



I've added a taxi driver as well who can take you to different locations (including Hawkfields). A new city hub (Sparrow Hollow) is going to be accessible via this method only.



You may remember a phone booth from the demo. I proudly announce that I've implemented a fully functional phone system with different numbers you can call. NPCs can either answer, miss, or even discard your calls - and this even dynamically changes depending on your current tasks, relations, etc.



Completely reworked the input system to support customizing the movement keys as well. I can hopefully use this new system in Through The Fragmentation later on.



Added new variables to the stats screen, so the game can account how many times you lied, stole a wallet, or rob a safe. Also, on the Settings/Interface panel, you can set whether you want to have the distance walked stat calculated in meters, or in yards.



Worked on new websites you can visit to gather information related to different side quests, or secrets. Made sure that the game can remember which pages you visited, (in case an NPC mentions a website to you during a conversation, for example), and added alternative paths as well.



I also made a special elevator for the game that functions as a teleporter between hidden areas. You need to find the codes to these areas, and sometimes even the way back to the City.

A new batch of random passives has been added
Bounty missions are adjusted to refresh as long as you complete any seven missions, removing the time limit and increasing the adventurer's level rewards
The logistics team and the adventure team have been adjusted, all heroes are shared, and heroes can only participate in one team
Dungeon dungeons add new mode of adventure party challenges and adjust the rewards for each mode
Add all Legacy Equipment to an Epic Form, which can be obtained randomly in the in-game through the Shop or Events

Enemy hero units can be added to the dungeon to obtain a random type of armor equipment
Dungeon Chests and Adventure Chests have increased the content of openings
Fixed a price issue caused by the selection of equipment for the Campaign Hire character
Added Blacksmith Adventurer Equipment Crafting, where players can craft randomly generated artifact equipment
The exchange adjusts, and the price fluctuation adjustment changes every 1 minute
The campaign adds that the protagonist can choose between a second active and passive

Farewell to Sluggish Crafting Speeds!

Hello, Magicians. Happy New Year! May your cauldrons bubble with joy, and your spells shine brilliantly!




Gameplay Improvements
  • Crafting Level Benefits Added: If Jini’s snail-paced crafting has been driving you crazy, rejoice! As you level up, your crafting speed and sales revenue both get a boost.
  • Skill and Buff Duration Display: Guess no more! The remaining time for buffs now appears on icons in the bottom-left corner.
  • Tamer Monsters: Moths, flower seeds, and grass seeds will no longer attack Jini first—they’ve calmed down nicely.
  • Shorter Monster Detection in the Deep Forest: Monsters won’t spot Jini from so far away anymore.
  • Reduced XP Requirements for Crafting: You’ll need less XP for crafting in the shop, making it easier to level up.
  • Treasure Chests Stop Glowing: Once all items are removed, the chests no longer emit light—no more wasted clicks.
  • Dungeon Entry Confirmation: A confirmation prompt now appears to prevent unintentional dungeon hopping.
  • Rokta Hyu’s Breathing Exercises at the Counter: Rokta Hyu now takes calming breaths at the counter, adding a fun little detail to your shop.
  • Mysterious Peddler Visit Frequency: Tired of waiting for the peddler to show up? They’ll now appear during “Low Moon” and “Super Sun”!
  • Monster Item Drop Timing: Items drop after the monster’s death animation completes—no more awkward timing.
  • New Color for ‘NO’ Button: The ‘NO’ button in confirmation windows stands out more, reducing misclicks.
  • Forest Layout Changes: To spare you sudden tough battles (or the tragedy of no lemons!), TeamLamp has planted lemon trees and removed wasps from safe paths in the village forest.

Bug Fixes
  • Mysterious Magician Encounter Bug Fixed: Resolved an issue where the Mysterious Magician kept talking to Jini even after completing certain quests.

Here's the first patch for the co-op open beta. I'll fixed a bunch of issues, and made some tweaks. Check out the full list below:

Additions
  • Added Beth (non-customer)
  • Added 30 minute curfew warning.
  • Added 6 character creator presets.
  • Added 'I'm stuck' option to pause menu. Press this if you ever get stuck to be teleported to freedom.
  • Added dirt and cracks to roads.
  • Added wheel LODs.

Tweaks
  • Changed layout of deal completion interface.
  • Increased morning fog density.
  • Improved dealer window selection algorithm.
  • Player name label is now disabled on dead players.
